John Francis and Leslie Francis Klug of Francis Financial Services are financial service professionals specializing in retirement plans, individual retirement accounts and individual investment accounts among other financial service needs. John, the founder and owner, has over twenty-five years of experience and serves as your 403(b) retirement representative :50 AM HLC Accreditation, Strategic Planning, Enrollment Data (Charles Perkins and Brenda Moreno) T103 The presentation will update staff and faculty on Barton s progress and implementation of the HLC Accreditation, Strategic Plan and Enrollment Data. Charles Perkins has been with the college for over 25 years. When Charles started the computer department and had only 3 employees, He brought the department to the Community College wide, respected level, it is today, Charles recently moved to Dean of Institutional Effectiveness and will, undoubtedly, build the new department to the level he did the IT department Brenda Moreno has been with the college for 6 years, she began as the Help Desk Facilitator/IS Project Coordinator and has taken classes to work up to IE Project Manager :50 AM Title IX (Cheryl Brown with Stephanie Joiner and Angie Maddy) T103 Case study scenarios illustrating nuances of Title IX, after which divide into smaller groups to discuss, followed by larger group discussion. Cheryl Brown: Native Kansan, graduated from KU and Santa Clara University School of Law. Worked many years in law and insurance. Spent nearly nine years abroad, mostly in Taiwan and Hong Kong, where became fluent in Mandarin Chinese.

2 Tuesday Afternoon, August 8 th 1 2:20 PM Keynote: The POWER of Humans..'Being' Why Diversity and Inclusion Matters (Pastor Adrion Roberson - Kansas Leadership Center) Auditorium Adrion Roberson is on faculty with the Kansas Leadership Center, but his day job is as the pastor of DESTINY! Bible Fellowship Community Church in Kansas City. He is also the founder of KC United! Youth Sports Initiative which serves over 850 youth and teens in the urban metro. Adrion is passionate about helping others believe in and invest in their communities. 2:30 2:50 Inclusion and Diversity Team (Carol Murphy) - T103 Barton has organized an Inclusion and Diversity Team to foster a climate at Barton which is built upon inclusiveness, respect, and understanding. This presentation will explain the responsibilities of the ID Team and provide ideas on how faculty and staff can facilitate the integration of inclusion and diversity into all areas of service. 3 3:50 Privilege Beads Workshop (Jaime Abel) - T103 Tables with supplies will be provided and participants will place their supplies on a string of beads. This Training will also take place in Junction City and Ft. Leavenworth later this fall :50 AM Brandin with Brandon (Brandon Steinert) F30 What is the Barton Brand? An easier question would be, What is NOT the Barton Brand? Yes, we have specific logos, wordmarks, slogans and imagery, but the brand goes beyond the surface. It s truly anything that the public perceives about Barton, including interactions with Barton faculty, staff and students. I ll go over the basics of what PR does to manage the brand, then we ll have a discussion about community perceptions of Barton and what you can do to perpetuate the College s good name!

3 Wednesday Afternoon, August 9 th 1 1:50 PM Assessment of Student Learning (Jo Harrington) - F30 Update on the Assessment Academy-Barton s Quality Initiative and the role, responsibilities, and expectations from the faculty. Jo Harrington has served as the Coordinator of Assessment of Student Learning for many years. He has also been a FT Mathematics Instructor at Barton since 2004 at both the GB location and online. 2 2:50 PM Open Educational Resources (Mike Cox & Peter Solie) - F30 Pittsburg State University made the following presentation at the 2017 HLC Conference: Presentation will describe OER advances made at Barton in History courses and war game Barton s initiative and plan to fully implement OER. 3 3: 50 PM Faculty Council Best Practices Roundtable (Mike Cox & Peter Solie) F30 Best Practices Round Table Discussion. Continuation of the Faculty Council s January presentation on the Student Course Evaluation Survey Comments (Best 5/Worse 5) and an open discussion on how to sustain/improve. Thursday, August 11 th 8:30 8:50 AM What Is Old and What to Look Forward To (Renee Demel) - T117 This presentation is for all employees to review information about virus protection, the Spam Filters, , covering what is new, what is old and what to look forward to. 4 Thursday, August 11 th (continued) 10 10:50 AM This is How I Record My Lectures & Other Tricks (Jo Harrington) - F30 Jo will walk you through some of the ways that he incorporates technology in the classroom including: -Using a Mouse Pen integrated with Microsoft Office and Paint to bypass a whiteboard -Using the Snipping Tool and etexts to incorporate images in presentations/lectures -Using Go-To-Meeting for absent students, athletes, etc. -Using SnagIt, Camtasia, and Screencast (or even Panopto) to record lectures for online courses, absent students, hybrid courses, personal absence, supplemental instruction, etc. -Canvas tips and more Jo Harrington has served as the Coordinator of Assessment of Student Learning for many years. He has also been a FT Mathematics Instructor at Barton since 2004 at both the GB location and online :50 AM What's New in Canvas & Canvas Apps (Curtis Rose & Todd Mobray) - F30 Todd and Curtis will cover the biggest updates slated to occur in Canvas this year, one of which will be an improved quiz engine. We will also hand out printed Canvas Instructor Guides with simple steps for some of the most common Canvas tasks for instructors when building and administering courses. Also, an introduction to Barton s new weapons policy that is intended to meet Kansas new regulations with carrying concealed on campus. Barton s Campus Safety Lead Officer and Coordinator of Correctional Educational Services will present.

Be prepared for lots of purple! As the Affiliate Site Manager for Kansas State University's Global Campus, Jennifer Pfortmiller recruits and preadvises students for K-State s online degree completion programs. In addition, she works to build 2+2 partnerships as an option for students to remain in their home area and still complete their degree online from K-State.
