MOBILE PAYMENT PARKING The University is now offering a mobile payment solution that allows visitors to pay for parking with their smartphone, through a website, or by calling a phone number. ENTERPRISE CARSHARE Enterprise CarShare has added cars and locations to campus as part of the University s car sharing program. Enterprise CarShare allows members to rent a vehicle by the hour, day, or overnight. University affiliates receive a discount on their Enterprise CarShare membership. ELECTRIC CAR CHARGING STATIONS Electric car charging stations are now located in the University of Chicago Medicine s Parking A and Parking C lots. More electric car charging stations are being added this academic year. 2
3 TRANSPORTATION CTA U-PASS Students in the College are now issued the CTA s Ventra U-Pass and will be required to use it to board all CTA buses and trains. MIDWAY METRA SHUTTLE The University now operates a daytime shuttle that travels from the 57 th Street and 59 th Street Metra stations to points along 59 th and 60 th streets, and the University of Chicago Medicine s campus. SOUTH ROUTE CHANGE Beginning Autumn Quarter, the South Route shuttle will travel further south on Woodlawn Avenue from 57 th Street to 63 rd Street, and travel west onto 63 rd Street. This route change provides better access to the Hyde Park Day School on Ellis Avenue and the CTA s Green Line station on Cottage Grove Avenue. POLSKY EXPRESS SHUTTLE The CIE Shuttle is now called the Polsky Express Shuttle. The route and times of this shuttle have changed. For specific information, see the UGo Daytime Shuttles page in this guide or visit uchicago.transloc.com. SHUTTLE STOP SIGNS The University has added new UGo Shuttle stop signs at nearly 30 locations where the shuttles stop around campus and at a few locations off campus. Please note, not all shuttle stops have signs at this time. The shuttles will continue to stop at all of their designated locations. 4 UCHICAGO PARKING PARKING LOTS AND GARAGES Transportation & Parking Services manages various surface parking lots and the Ellis Garage for on-campus parking. For daily and monthly rates at University-managed lots, visit safety-security. uchicago.edu/services/campus_parking. TRANSPORTATION & PARKING OFFICE The Transportation & Parking Office is located on the south side, ground level of the Ellis Garage at 5525 South Ellis Avenue, Room 171. Office hours are from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday through Friday. ONLINE PARKING SERVICES Transportation & Parking Services offers an online portal to help manage your parking account. Using your CNet ID, you can renew your permit, update vehicle information, and pay citations. Visit universityofchicago.t2hosted.com to manage your parking account. CITATIONS Ticketed parkers have 60 days to pay their fine or a $20 late fee will be imposed. Citations are subject to collections. PRE-TAX COMMUTER BENEFIT Benefits-eligible employees can pay for their monthly parking expenses using payroll deduction if parking on campus. Benefits-eligible employees may also pay for their commuting expenses through pre-tax benefits covered by the University. Parking expenses can also be covered if you park in a facility away from your work location. To enroll in the program, visit wageworks.com or call MOBILE PAYMENT PARKING Visitors coming to campus will have the option to use a mobile payment application to pay for their parking. Passport can be used for visitor parking in the following locations: Chapin, Young, Dorchester, Harris, McGiffert, and Wells. ALTERNATIVE TRANSPORTATION PROGRAM In support of campus sustainability efforts and to reduce the number of single occupancy vehicles on campus, the University offers an alternative transportation program. Enrollment in the qualifying commuter benefits program allows UChicago members to enroll in the Occasional Parking Program and receive a limited quantity of parking passes for access to the Ellis Garage. 6 TRANSPORTATION FOR INJURED OR DISABLED STUDENTS INJURED STUDENT TRANSPORTATION An injured student who needs transportation should contact Transportation & Parking Services at or between 8:30 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday through Friday (except holidays). Service should be requested at least 24 hours in advance of when service is needed. In the interim, students should arrange other transportation options. Pick up and drop off times may vary depending on service demands. Injured student transportation will be provided for injured students but not for a third party. Injured student transportation will be provided to and from: Perimeter of the Main Quadrangle Pedestrian Zone (MQPZ) Campus libraries University of Chicago Medicine for medical treatment Campus dining locations DIAL-A-RIDE SERVICE The University also provides Dial-A-Ride, a complimentary curb-to-curb transportation service for students with long-term limited mobility. This service provides rides to and from regularly scheduled classes and to and from medical appointments at the University of Chicago Medicine complex. Students requesting this service must first register with Student Disabilities Services by contacting or disabilities@uchicago.edu. Service must then be arranged with Transportation & Parking Services at least three business days prior to an individual s transport needs. 8 OTHER TRANSPORTATION OPTIONS CTA BUSES NEAR CAMPUS Several CTA bus routes travel on or very close to campus. They include the #2 Hyde Park Express, #4 Cottage Gove, #6 Jackson Park Express, #10 Museum of Science & Industry, #15 Jeffrey Local, #28 Stony Island, #55 Garfield, #59 59 th /61 st Street, and #63 63 rd Street. For specific CTA bus stops, routes, hours, and wait times, visit transitchicago.com. CTA GREEN AND RED LINE TRAINS The CTA s Green and Red lines run close to campus. When using these rail lines, take the #55 bus route to/from the Garfield stations. Both rail lines travel to the downtown Loop area where it is convenient to transfer to another train or bus. Beginning in the Autumn Quarter, the University s South Route Shuttle will stop at the Green Line station located at 63 rd Street and Cottage Grove Avenue. For more information about the Pace Bus System, visit pacebus.com. CAR SHARING Enterprise CarShare vehicles can be found at several parking lots across campus for renting on an hourly or daily basis. University members who sign up for the car sharing program will have their membership fee waived for the first year. The program is open to all students, faculty, and staff ages 18 and older. BIKING Divvy, a bike sharing program, is available on campus and throughout Chicago. 9 TIPS FOR YOUR TRIP SHUTTLE ID GUIDELINES When boarding any University shuttle, passengers should tap a valid UChicago-issued ID or University of Chicago Medicine ID. Please visit the ID & Privileges website at ipo.uchicago.edu for a listing of valid IDs. TRANSIT TRACKING safety-security.uchicago.edu/transportation All UGo shuttles and CTA routes that service campus are equipped with GPS tracking. Shuttle movements and arrivals can be tracked online, on a mobile device, or on one of the monitors located in various buildings across campus. The University s transit tracking program also displays any announcements and alerts that may affect the shuttles movements. RTA TRIP PLANNER tripsweb.rtachicago.com RTA Trip Planner is a resource to help plan trips around the greater Chicago area. The site is powered by the Regional Transit Authority (RTA) and includes all modal options: CTA, Metra, and Pace, as well as information for walkers, bikers, and drivers. LOST AND FOUND The University and its shuttle service provider assume no responsibility for any items lost while riding a UGo shuttle. If you believe you left an item on a UGo shuttle, call the Transportation & Parking Office at or bus@uchicago.edu. Unclaimed items will be kept until the end of each month. Any unclaimed items will be taken to a donation center or discarded. For items left on CTA buses, contact the CTA at 888.YOUR.CTA ( ). 12 UGO DAYTIME SHUTTLES The University of Chicago provides free daytime shuttle service around campus and into the neighboring communities to all students, faculty, staff, and University of Chicago Medicine staff. The shuttles run year-round except on University-observed holidays. To ride the shuttles, passengers should tap a valid UChicago-issued ID or University of Chicago Medicine ID when boarding. For the most up-to-date information visit the Transportation & Parking Services website at safety-security.uchicago.edu/transportation. FRIEND CENTER AND METRA ROUTE (Monday through Friday 5 a.m. to 9 p.m.). Departs 59 th Street and Drexel Avenue: 0:00 and 0:30; Friend Center: 0:10 and 0:40; 57 th Street Metra Station: 0:20 and 0:50. DREXEL ROUTE (Monday through Friday 5-10 a.m.; use Apostolic/Drexel Route after 10 a.m.). Departs 61 st Street and Drexel Avenue on the tens (0:00, 0:10, 0:20, etc.) APOSTOLIC ROUTE (Monday through Friday 5-10 a.m.; use Apostolic/Drexel Route after 10 a.m.). Departs 63 rd Street and Kenwood Avenue on the tens (0:00, 0:10, 0:20, etc.). APOSTOLIC/DREXEL ROUTE (Monday through Friday 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.; picks up at both Drexel and Apostolic parking lots). After 6 p.m., the East Route of the NightRide service travels east on 53 rd Street and can be picked up at the southeast corner of 53 rd Street and Lake Park Avenue. 14 UGO NIGHTRIDE SHUTTLES The NightRide shuttles are free to all University students, faculty, staff, and University of Chicago Medicine staff. To ride the shuttles, all passengers should tap a valid UChicago-issued ID or University of Chicago Medicine ID when boarding. Please visit the ID & Privileges website at ipo.uchicago.edu for a list of valid IDs. HOURS NightRide operates seven nights a week with reduced service for holidays and the summer quarter. Sunday through Wednesday the shuttles operate from 5 p.m. to 4 a.m. Thursday through Saturday the shuttles run from 5 p.m. to 6 a.m. The shuttles run approximately every 15 minutes from 5 p.m. to midnight, and approximately every 30 minutes from midnight to the end of service. STOPS For your safety and the safety of all passengers, flag stops can only occur at intersections. To flag a shuttle between designated stops, customers should safely stand at the intersection to allow the shuttle to safely pull over. Remember, NightRide operates when it is dark outside, so it is important to be visible to the driver and indicate to him or her that you would like to board. To indicate a stop while on the shuttle, pull the cord or ask the driver.
