1 Lecturers Foundation Studies Diploma La Trobe University Sydney Campus Casual, Sydney CBD La Trobe University Sydney Campus is operated by Navitas on behalf of La Trobe University, offering Foundation Studies, Diploma, Undergraduate and Postgraduate courses. The Sydney campus is a state-of-the-arts facility under a renewed ten year agreement between Navitas and La Trobe University. La Trobe University Sydney campus is looking for suitably qualified sessional teaching staff to teach in the following areas: Academic Communications (Foundation Studies program) Foundations of Management (Diploma of Business program) Essential Skills & Experience Minimum of a degree in the relevant field Teaching qualification (or minimum 2 years teaching experience) Demonstrated ability and experience in delivery of classes within a tertiary level education environment Demonstrated experience in innovative approaches to teaching and learning. 2 SCHEDULE B POSITION DESCRIPTION Title: Lecturer, La Trobe University Sydney Campus (Foundations Studies/Diploma) Business Unit: Reports to: Full time or part time: Location: La Trobe University Sydney Campus Academic Manager Casual Sydney, Australia 1. Overview and Objectives of the Position: Sessional academics have a teaching role and will contribute to providing high quality programs by ensuring their teaching is well-planned and innovative, in order to facilitate successful student experiences and outcomes. Lecturers are expected to adopt informed pedagogical practices, seeking to support students throughout their pathway program and equip them with the skills to effectively transition into an undergraduate course. 2. Key Relationships: i. Campus Director ii. Academic Manager iii. Subject Coordinator iv. Other Teaching staff v. Academic Services staff vi. Students

3 3. Key Result Areas: Teaching i. Deliver teaching and learning materials in an engaging and supportive way in order to promote active learning, including activities which are authentic, student-centred, ii. iii. iv. scaffolded, technology-rich Integrate technology into learning & teaching and resources in alignment with La Trobe Digital Learning Strategy and in a meaningful, purposeful way (not simply showing a video). Seek to use ICT resources to their full capabilities (not simply using an interactive whiteboard to write on). Actively seek assistance from Learning Technology Coordinator to continuously build skills. Promote a communicative and safe environment for students to ask questions, share with peers and receive feedback, including online forums, Turnitin audio feedback, polling. Ensure that week 1 promotes a positive environment where a community can be established and built upon. The first session needs to clearly define expectations including participation, textbook purchasing, homework, attendance, etc., as well as subject-specific information. Professional Development i. Knowledge of current pedagogical practice and learning theories ii. Participate in professional development offerings (Teaching and Learning and discipline- specific) iii. Regularly visit the Professional Development page on the portal iv. Enrol and participate in modules facilitated by the Learning & Teaching team (either face-to-face or online) v. Up-to-date knowledge of industry (specific to teaching discipline area) which may include work with industry professionals, attending industry events, industry membership vi. Collaborate with colleagues to actively be part of a peer community vii. Engage in reflective practice to continuously improve and develop

4 Meetings i. Regularly attend, and contribute to lecturer meetings ii. Regularly communicate and participate in meetings with Subject Coordinator Lecturer s Duties and Obligations Payment for the above includes the following: i. The Lecturer is to provide lecturing and tutoring or classes at La Trobe University Sydney Campus as allocated by the Academic Manager and agreed to by the lecturer. This will be in alignment with requirements dictated by each subject s Subject Learning Guide ii. Class preparation time (average 1 hour/week) iii. Be available for student consultation time ( 1 hour x 12/13 weeks) iv. Active use of available classroom technologies in order to support learning. This includes interactive whiteboards, Echo recordings, document cameras v. Digital upload to Moodle of Subject Learning Guide, appropriately prepared and modified to reflect the specifics of Sydney Campus, prior to commencement of each semester. vi. Ensure that all Moodle resources are modified to be customised for Sydney students prior to start of semester (especially assessments dates) vii. Maintenance of attendance on the portal viii. Marking of all internal assessments and final exam using a rubric or grader. Feedback/results provided to students within 2 weeks of due date. Entering of marks on Moodle within an appropriate timeframe ix. Provide marked assessments (worth more than 10%) for moderation, as detailed in the La Trobe University Sydney Campus Lecturers Guide x. Reporting of suspected academic misconduct to Academic Manager xi. Reporting students that are at-risk because of poor progress and/or attendance to the Student Services & Student Support Manager and/or Academic Manager xii. Regularly check staff account (XXX@sydney-campus.com) and respond to student/staff s in a timely manner xiii. Liaise with Academic Services staff where required xiv. Regularly communicate and participate in meetings with relevant Subject Coordinator xv. Provide advice and assistance to students on academic matters relating to their unit, policies and procedures, and refer students to relevant support or administrative staff as necessary xvi. If nominated as Subject Lead: o o Supervise nominated courses including taking responsibility for modifying Moodle content, course oversight, unit delivery and the management of teaching staff in liaison with the Academic Manager Liaise with teaching staff within relevant units where relevant, regarding student progress and specific problems being encountered by students

5 o Liaise with La Trobe Melbourne/La Trobe Sydney Subject Coordinator and ensure comparability of learning outcomes, curriculum and assessment practices xvii. xviii. xix. xx. Adhere to La Trobe Sydney policies and procedures (available from the portal) Be open to lessons being observed from time to time by Academic Manager or other senior staff (face-to-face or through Echo recordings). There is also an evaluation program in place for student feedback towards the end of each semester. Maintain a current Working with Children check The Lecturer shall not engage in any employment or activity which may adversely affect the standard of teaching delivered under this contract. The Lecturer must advise the Academic Manager of any activities outside of lecturing and tutoring duties at La Trobe University Sydney Campus which may be relevant to this requirement 4. Qualifications and Selection Criteria: Essential: i. Tertiary qualifications (at least undergraduate level) in a relevant field and teaching qualifications or minimum 2 years teaching experience ii. Foundation Studies Academic Communication teachers must have an English Language qualification and minimum 2 years experience iii. Demonstrated ability and experience in delivery of classes a tertiary level education environment iv. Demonstrated experience in contributing to the development of innovative approaches to teaching and learning v. Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment and collaborate with colleagues Desirable: i. Experience working in a multicultural education environment
