2 1. Update of Website Address (change from UniSIM -> SUSS) Our websites addresses have been updated from UniSIM to SUSS. If you have bookmarked our websites in your browser, please update the URLs. Here is the list of frequently used website for studets and faculty. SUSS website (Access to Associate Portal, SUSS ) Canvas LMS (Learning Management System) Canvas.suss.edu.sg ibookstore (Retrieval of Study Guide & etextbook*) ibookstore.suss.edu.sg Microsoft Imagine (Download of Microsoft software^ except for Microsoft Office) msimagine.suss.edu.sg *Please take note that only selected courses are using etextbook. 2. About Canvas Learning Management System (LMS) SUSS adopted the use of Canvas as our Learning Management System in Jan It is an online platform where instructors post important announcements, upload lecture slides, interact with students, as well as download and mark submitted assignments and return the scored assignments. 2.1 How to access Canvas? Please login to using your SUSS username and password.

3 2.2 How to use Canvas? Canvas resources such as user guide, videos and answers to frequently asked questions are located at How to sign up for Canvas workshops? Canvas hands-on workshops are also available to help you get familiarised with your role as an instructor. If you have not signed up for any of our workshops, please proceed to do so using this link: Where to get Help? 4 Phone: (Option 2) 2.5 Where to locate Important Information posted about Canvas? We have enhanced the login page of Canvas to provide timely information about maintenance and course accessibility. In addition, you will be able to locate the Learning Services Support contact details as well as Canvas resources in a single location.

5 2.6 Where to access my Courses in Canvas? Upon successful login to Canvas, you will see the courses you are teaching, appearing on the Dashboard. Please note that NOT all your courses will appear in the Dashboard. To access all your courses, please click on Courses just below Dashboard.

6 A list of courses will appear. Scroll down the list till you see ALL Courses Click on it and you will see all your courses appearing.

7 3. About ibookstore (study guide & etextbook) ibookstore contains interactive study guides of SUSS courses. The Interactive Study Guide (istudyguide) provides students with a convenient single point-of-access to all critical learning resources. These learning activities and references are sequenced according to the course structure. As a downloadable resource, it enables your students to learn anytime, anywhere even when there is no network connectivity. The istudyguide is accessible on multiple devices (i.e. desktop, laptop, tablet and smartphone) and across various operating systems (i.e. ios, Android, Windows & Mac). To find out about how to install and launch the istudyguide, click on What s this? besides the download icon.

8 ibookstore is accessible at or in your Canvas courses, on the left menu - ibookstore. In addition to the Study Guides, non-related course materials such as Additional Readings are available within ibookstore. Additional Readings contains a wide collection of reference books, ranging from management skills to counselling and even media related topics. Your students may loan out these complimentary online resources for a period of 14 days. Only up to 10 copies per book can be loaned at any one time.

9 In addition to Addition Reading, selected courses would have their etextbooks made available in Canvas. etextbooks are the electronic versions of the textbooks for students and instructors. For these selected courses, instructors and students enrolled to the course will be able to launch their etextbook online by going into their Canvas course and clicking on Modules located at the left menu. Thereafter, clicking on VitalSoure etextbook will bring you to the online textbook. For a detailed user guide, please refer to 1.amazonaws.com/unisim.elearning.documents.prod/LSA102/others/LSA102_Canvas_Part- Time_Instuctor_Guide.pdf 3.1 Important note about etextbook With the change of University name from UniSIM to SUSS, your address domain will also be updated to reflect the domain. If you have redeemed etextbook (VitalSource) for your courses previously, your account might be reflected as username@unisim.edu.sg. To access these etextbooks on your SUSS account, you would need to contact VitalSource support via Details to provide: 1. UniSIM (which acts as the username) 2. SUSS 3. Transfer the etextbooks from UniSIM account to SUSS account 4. Delete the UniSIM account

SUSS BackPack SUSS Backpack is the mobile application launched for our students and instructors to access learning materials (interactive study guides, recorded lectures and past year exam papers), conveniently via their Android or ios mobile devices. The app also enables users to receive important notifications from the University instantaneously on their mobile devices and it comes installed with useful associates resources (e.g. teaching & learning at SUSS, blended learning at SUSS etc). SUSS Backpack is downloadable free of charge from the Apple App Store and Google Play Store.

11 Important Note - If you can t see the new courses you are enrolled to, please log out and log in again. 5. Learning Services Support Portal We have revamped our Learning Services Support Community to serve you better! The design has been simplified to emphasise on the support provided on the use of Canvas LMS. You will be able to 1. Find answers to frequently asked technical questions 2. Access Canvas resources such as user guides and videos for various products like Canvas LMS, Collaborate, Turnitin, istudyguide and etextbook 3. Submit a technical case online and track the status 4. Register for workshop to familiarise yourself with the use of Canvas for submission of assignments 5. View contact details and operating hours of Learning Services Support (Technical Heldpesk)

12 How to access Learning Services Support Portal? We have made it easy for you to access the portal. There are three access points that are available from 22 Jan onwards. 1st Access Point Please login to using your SUSS username and password. 2nd Access Point Look out for LS Support on the left menu after successful login to Canvas. 3rd Access Point Look out for Report a Problem on the left menu of your course site.

Microsoft Imagine (for Associates and Faculty staff only) Microsoft Imagine is an initiative of Microsoft to offer education institutions such as SUSS, free access to their software for learning, teaching and research purposes. Microsoft software found on this website can be used in your coursework and installed on two computers. Please look out for an account registration notification sent to your SUSS address by 22 Jan. Please note that the will be triggered and it is NOT a spam . Thereafter, login to SUSS Microsoft Imagine portal ( and start searching for the Microsoft software titles that you need for your learning. 7. Academic Integrity Note & Personal Data Protection Act (PDPA) As SUSS students, they must abide by, uphold and maintain absolute academic honesty and integrity in assignments and any required academic deliverables (collectively known as Academic Work ) during the course of their study at the University. In addition, students are reminded NOT to include personal particulars such as NRIC, home address and mobile number in their assignment document in accordance to the personal data protection act.

14 Every assignment submission page in Canvas is updated with the above important notes to remind students of their obligation in abiding to the academic integrity and the consequences for academic dishonesty as well as the need to comply with the personal data protection act. Please ensure that you have read and understood the following on academic integrity, and are aware of the University s penalties for academic dishonesty under Section 5.2 of the following handbooks. 1. For School of LAW Students: Please click HERE to download (updated 05 Sep 2017)s Please read before submission. 1. In accordance to the Personal Data Protection Act (PDPA), please DO NOT include personal particulars such as NRIC, home address and mobile number in your assignment document. 2. Compose your assignment using Microsoft Office Word, and save either as.doc or.docx (preferred). Submission via Canvas mobile app is not supported. 8. UniSIM Gradebook -> SUSS Gradebook Learning Systems & Applications (LSA) would like to take this opportunity to thank all contributors for their valuable feedback received on the existing UniSIM Gradebook. To make the gradebook system more secure and stable, LSA is pleased to inform that we have re-built the system in-house and renamed as SUSS Gradebook. Starting from 22 Jan 2018, SUSS Gradebook will replace* UniSIM Gradebook.

15 In addition, Marked Assignments will reside within the new SUSS Gradebook. The existing functionality of marked assignments remains and students will also retrieve their marked assignment from SUSS Gradebook. OLD NEW *except for 12-months & above duration type of courses that are still running. UniSIM Gradebook will still be used. 8.1 Important about the new SUSS Gradebook Interface has been enhanced for better user experience and the loading speed has improved significantly.

16 Frequently used buttons (back, send to stage 2 etc) appear both at the top and bottom of the screen to improve usability. By default, mark deduction is enabled for all assignments (except for quizzes). School admins (instructors are not given this function) are to access SUSS Gradebook to update if mark deduction is not required before the instructor enters and key in the score. Mark deduction cannot be disabled from Stage 1 onwards. There are 3 methods to perform grouping in SUSS Gradebook

17 o o o Create directly in SUSS Gradebook Create by uploading a CSV file Create by importing from Canvas People menu In addition, groupings can be edited at all stages. Security is enhanced in the new SUSS Gradebook. Only the school admins can publish the scores to SIMS. They can do so multiple times till the cut-off date instructed by Exam Administration (EA) department. Learning Systems & Applications (LSA) staff will no longer have access to edit SUSS Gradebook. The Publish button will NOT appear if the score, grouping or marker PI is not assigned. In addition, newly added student in Stage 2 will not have marker PI selected as a flag to alert the school admins.

18 Upload Marked Assignment is moved into SUSS Gradebook. SUSS Gradebook auto-save your entered values when your mouse cursor moves out of the textbox. School admins are able to adjust the grade without affecting the original given grade. You will be able to sync the scores from Canvas Grades to SUSS Gradebook and vice versa.

Secure Document Repository (SDR) We used to upload and store sensitive documents such as marking guides and ECA papers in the Learning Management System (LMS). However, the LMS is not meant to keep these sensitive documents as it is also a system frequently accessed by our students. A safe, independent and secure environment is required to store and share such documents that are only accessible to our associates, faculty and Schools staff. SDR is developed in-house to meet this demand. Incorporating 2FA authentication via Google authenticator app, it is an important online platform for securing, storing and sharing sensitive documents even to external parties such as markers/reviewers. How to access SDR? Please login to using your SUSS username and password. Do note that only school programmes executives (admins) and faculty staff are granted access automatically.

20 How to gain access to use SDR? Please fill up the service request form - for yourself (new faculty or new school programmes executive) or when requesting for associates, external parties) via Classroom Recordings SUSS classrooms are equipped with facilities to record lectures automatically according to designated class schedule. The recorded lecture will be uploaded and made available in your Canvas course the following day under Classroom Recordings course tab on the left. Recorded lecture is a highly critical learning resource especially for part-time students as they rely a lot on it for studies, exam revision and lesson catch-up (i.e. when they are unable to make it for specific lessons). As an instructor, you have a very important role to play in ensuring quality class delivery and recording to our students. LSA has produced a video guide to help you get started and facilitate a smooth recording session. We recommend you watching this video before the start of your first class. Together, we can create a great learning experience for our students.
