Prince Albert s vision The Imperial 1851 Circle is named in recognition of Prince Albert s vision for a new scientific and cultural quarter in South Kensington, of which Imperial College London is at the heart, and which was made possible following the success of the Great Exhibition of Prince Albert was a champion of innovation and education, and his foresight paved the way for the development of Imperial in the same way that our philanthropic donors today are instrumental in helping to achieve the College s vision to remain at the forefront of world-leading scientific research and education. Throughout Imperial s history, gifts from generous alumni and friends have been vital to the College s ongoing development. The Circle was established to recognise the great impact donors have had in shaping the past, present and future of Imperial; ensuring Prince Albert s visionary legacy endures for years to come. + Year 12 and 13 students undertake a titration chemistry experiment as part of the Wohl Reach Out Lab s STEM Enrichment Programme. Based at Imperial s South Kensington Campus, the Lab relies on philanthropic support to facilitate a range of outreach programmes aimed at inspiring school children from diverse or underprivileged backgrounds to discover more about science, technology, engineering and medicine. A L B E RT, P R I N C E CO N S O RT Imperial can trace its origins back to the Great Exhibition of 1851, organised by Prince Albert, husband of Queen Victoria and one of the most visionary thinkers of his time. Following the success of the Great Exhibition, Prince Albert championed the development of a scientific and educational hub in the South Kensington area, of which Imperial is now part. The Queen s Tower, shown here, is one of the oldest structures on the College s South Kensington Campus, and is a symbol of Imperial s long and enduring heritage, which owes much to the extraordinary legacy of Prince Albert.

And support for the College s outreach initiatives makes a tangible difference to improving communities both locally and around the globe. + Imperial College PhD Scholarship recipient Rowan Brackston (Aeronautics) is working on experimental research into flow control for bluff-body drag reduction which aims to reduce drag for automotive vehicles. His work could lead to many further improvements in aerodynamics in the future.
