As one of the three schools within the Plymouth Business School, the School of Tourism and Hospitality is committed to creating a stimulating multidisciplinary learning experience that fosters the pursuit of innovation, enterprise and business engagement underpinned by excellence in both research and education. The School offers a broad range of undergraduate and specialist postgraduate programmes in tourism, hospitality, cruise and events management. These are a few of the popular programmes of study at Plymouth University amongst local and international students. INTRODUCTION This programme, leading to the Bachelor of Science (Honours) Tourism Management, is offered by HKU SPACE in collaboration with Plymouth University. The Bachelor of Science (Honours) Tourism Management is awarded by Plymouth University, and thus it carries the same academic status and recognition as those offered to Plymouth University s on-campus graduates. The part-time top-up programme aims to provide a professional education experience that meets the academic and vocational expectations of its key stakeholders, especially its students, the tourism industry as a whole and the wider community with a socio-economic stake in its outcomes. AIMS AND OBJECTIVES The Bachelor of Science (Honours) Tourism Management degree programme aims to enable students to gain a broad understanding of the development of tourism and have a critical awareness of the issues that underpin best practice in this field. In addition, the programme enables students to develop vocationally relevant managerial skills needed for employment in this industry or for further study.

3 ENTRY REQUIREMENTS Applicants shall: 1. hold an Advanced Diploma / Higher Diploma in Tourism and Hospitality Management / Tourism and Marketing Management / M.I.C.E. and Event Management awarded within the HKU system through HKU SPACE; OR 2. A. (i) hold an Advanced Diploma / Associate Degree /Higher Diploma in Tourism Management granted by a recognised institution; OR (ii) hold an Advanced Diploma / Associate Degree /Higher Diploma in other related disciplines such as Business, Marketing, Management, Leisure, and Recreation Studies granted by a recognized institution; and OR B. Provide evidence of English proficiency such as : (a) HKCEE English Language at Level 2; OR (b) HKCEE English Language (Syllabus B) at Grade E (Grade C in the case of English Language (Syllabus A)); OR (c) HKDSE Examination English Language at Level 2; OR (d) an overall band of 6.0 or above in the IELTS; OR (e) a score of 500 in the paper-based TOEFL or a score of 173 in the computer-based TOEFL and a score of 4.5 in Test of Written English. 3. have a degree of other disciplines. Applicants from (2) and (3) may be considered on a case-by-case basis. Applicants from (2Aii) and (3) may be required to take and pass additional modules based on individual merit before the start of the programme. PROGRAMME STRUCTURE Plymouth University and HKU SPACE are jointly responsible for teaching various modules and delivering the honours project through consultation, tutorials and workshops. Teaching methods may include lectures, tutorials, field trips, case studies, business simulations, guest speaker talks, revision sessions and individual/group projects. The programme will have 405 hours of contact in the form of lectures, tutorials and supervision. Each module will consist of 30 hours of lectures and 15 hours of tutorials. Plymouth University will send their professors out to Hong Kong to teach 15 hours for each of the five modules and will supervise the students for the honours project module over two terms. Local lecturers accredited by Plymouth University will be appointed by HKU SPACE to deliver the rest of the lectures and tutorials. TEACHING MODE All modules will be taught in English. Lecture notes and teaching materials will be in English. Offered on a part-time basis, classes will be conducted mainly on weekday evenings and on Saturdays and Sundays. Except for the honours project, each module will run over 8-9 weeks for the part-time mode. The local lectures/tutorials will be scheduled in the first 6 weeks. Tutorials and other related activities will reinforce the theoretical concepts taught in the lectures. The 7 modules will be taught over 4 terms. Order of modules offered may be subject to change. The honours project module will be supervised by Plymouth University over two terms. 4 ASSESSMENT The mode of assessment will vary from module to module but will be generally based on a combination of coursework (including assignments and tests/ projects) and a final examination or 100% continuous assessment without examinations. Throughout the programme, students will typically be assessed by a combination of report writing, case-study assignments, oral presentations, projects and examinations (open/closed book). For the honours project, students will need to submit a proposal and in-depth dissertation of 8000 words. All courseworks and examinations will be conducted in English. TUITION FEE The programme is designed on a modular basis, accepting two intakes of students per year in April and September. All fees paid are NOT refundable, unless a course is over-subscribed or cancelled. Course Fee: HK$94,200 will be paid in 4 terms (Required textbooks are not included in this fee) * Level 5 module: HK$4,800 per module + Level 6 module: HK$13,300 per module (Honours project = Two Level 6 modules) Please note that the fees quoted above apply only to Term I modules studied in the following intakes. These fees may be subject to revisions even after a student is admitted to this programme. Fees for the following terms will be advised when you enroll on subsequent modules. Separate fees will be payable for resitting the examination, re-submitting course work and repeating the studies for each module of study.
