SPED 411 and SPED 322 are the only additional courses to complete the SPED minor. These courses can be counted as General Electives. If you elect SPED as a minor, you must complete an Add a Minor form to officially be enrolled in the program. Neurostudies Minor Beginning in Fall 2015, a new minor in psychology will be offered. The Neurostudies Minor is an interdisciplinary may which may be of interest to students in CSD who are also interested in human neurology and neurological disorders. Two of the courses which are required for CSD (CSDS 455 and CSDS 460) will also meet the requirements for the Neurostudies minor. An additional 12 of course work will be required. These additional will applied to the category of electives. Look in the Longwood catalog for specific information about this minor. VII. SLP Online Courses: The SLP Online program is designed for individuals who hold a bachelor s degree in a discipline other than CSDS and are changing careers. This program will provide them with foundation coursework needed to apply to a graduate program in CSDS. The program is not open to the enrollment of on-campus undergraduate PCSD/CSDS majors. Longwood residential and commuter students are only allowed to register for on-campus sections of CSDS courses. Students with extenuating circumstances may request to apply for permission to register for an online section with designated advisors. A committee decision will determine the outcome. VIII. APPLICATION for DEGREE When a student has earned 75 credit hours, that student must complete and submit the Application for Undergraduate Degree form to his/her academic advisor for review and signature and then to the Registrar for approval. Failure to complete and submit the form will result in a hold on the student s future registration process until the form is received and approved by the Registrar. To provide sufficient time for your advisor to review the Application for Degree prior to submission, please submit the completed form to your advisor no fewer than 2 weeks prior to the first day of the registration period.

4 4 IX Study Abroad: If you elect to engage in a study abroad opportunity, that opportunity may satisfy the requirement of General Education Goal 9. Talk with your advisor. X. GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS: a minimum of 120 credit hours a cumulative GPA of 2.0 a GPA in major courses of 2.0 a GPA in courses required for declared minor of 2.0 XI. THE 125 RULE Commonwealth of Virginia 125% Rule The Code of Virginia establishes rules for eligibility for in-state tuition for all students enrolled at public institutions in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Section : F of the Code of Virginia further requires undergraduate students to maintain progress toward the degree to comply with continued eligibility for in-state tuition. Students with entry dates fall 2006 and after may not exceed completed hours that total 125% of the credit hours needed for a specific degree program and retain in-state tuition eligibility. Students exceeding 125% will be assessed a surcharge for each semester of continued enrollment after exceeding the credit hour threshold. The following courses and credit hours shall be excluded: remedial courses; transfer from another college or university that do not meet degree requirements for general education courses or the student's chosen program of study; advanced placement or international baccalaureate that were obtained while in high school or another secondary school program; and dual enrollment, college-level obtained by the student prior to receiving a high school diploma. To refer to Section :F of the Code of Virginia, please use the following link: p. 47, Longwood University Academic Catalog, XII. CONSIDERATIONS PRIOR TO GRADUATE SCHOOL APPLICATION Students who are applying to graduate school should be aware that most graduate programs in CSD expect at least a B in CSDS courses and a minimum GPA of 3.0. These goals are not required for graduation from Longwood University. At the graduate level, students should be prepared to repeat any CSD course in which a grade of C+ or lower was earned. To build a more favorable transcript and GPA, an undergraduate student may also consider re-taking a CSD course having a grade of C or lower before graduating. Courses taken after graduation will not improve your GPA. If you have additional questions about graduate school expectations, please see your advisor.
