The leading advocate for medical education, research, and clinical care, the AAMC educates the public and policy makers to benefit medical schools, teaching hospitals, academic physicians, researchers, students, residents, and the patients they serve. Working with member institutions, the AAMC regularly communicates with Congressional members, the Administration, and with federal commissions such as the Medicare Payment Advisory Commission (MedPAC) and the National Quality Forum to ensure representation of teaching hospitals on a wide range of issues. The AAMC s reputation with policy makers, opinion leaders, and members of the media as a reliable, trusted source for facts, data, and expertise, and as the authoritative voice for academic medicine, unites and strengthens support for medical schools and teaching hospitals at the national level. The AAMC convenes active learning communities, information exchanges, and networks for CEOs, deans, faculty, chairs, researchers, administrators, residents and students. Through 75-plus in-person meetings each year, topical Web seminars, and problem-focused discussions, the AAMC connects leaders and future leaders to improve present operations, influence the future of academic medicine and health care, and amplify innovation. The AAMC Council of Teaching Hospitals and Health Systems is the premier channel for teaching hospital CEOs and executives to network, exchange ideas, focus on key issues, and shape the direction of graduate medical education and patient care. Through member communities including the Group on Information Resources, the Group on Faculty Practice, the Group on Resident Affairs, and the Chief Medical Officers Group the AAMC convenes institutional representatives to ensure administrators, physicians, educators, and residents have access to innovative ideas and best practices. To face today s complex challenges and plan for an uncertain future, the AAMC is committed to serving as a primary source of leadership development programs for its members, including the Healthcare Executive Diversity and Inclusion Certificate Program and the Graduate Medical Education (GME) Leadership Course. The AAMC s continuum of resident application and career services Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS ), FindAResident, and Visiting Student Application Service (VSAS ) provide streamlined processes for future physicians.
