2 INVITATION Hydraulic engineering is one of the most challenging fields in civil or environmental engineering and is of increasing importance. The flow in the near field of structural structures is of major interest, yet complex flow phenomena often observed at these structures are not yet fully understood. The IAHR International Junior Researcher and Engineer Workshop on Hydraulic Structures (IJREWHS) brings together young scientists and engineers to discuss hydraulic structure designs, new research investigations, and practical solutions. This workshop is the 6th in a successful series organized by the IAHR Hydraulic Structures Committee. Previous workshops were held in Montemor-o-Novo, Portugal (2006), Pisa, Italy (2008), Edinburgh, Scotland (2010), Logan, Utah (2012) and Spa, Belgium (2014). The 2016 edition will be held in Lübeck, Germany - a world cultural heritage near the Baltic Sea. The Local Organizing Committee is thus delighted to invite you to participate in the 6th IAHR International Researcher and Engineer Workshop on Hydraulic Structures taking place on May 30th to June 1st 2016 in Lübeck, Germany. WORKSHOP INTENTION The objective of the IJREWHS is to provide an opportunity for young researchers (typically graduate students) and for young engineers to present and discuss their research and works. In a friendly environment, authors and presenters receive constructive feedback from their peers and a committee of senior researchers on their research paper and presentation. Based on that feedback, authors will submit a revised final version of their manuscript, which will have a final review by their peers (workshop participants) and a representative of

3 the international scientific committee. The workshop will be organized by the Local Organizing Committee (LOC), but sessions will be shared also by the junior researchers and engineers. Additionally, the participants will discuss the presented works in round table discussions, together with the committee of senior researchers. This procedure allows a positive and an intensive training for further research processes, design, and analyses and will increase interpersonal skills. 5 HANSEATIC CITY OF LÜBECK Founded in 1134, the Hanseatic City of Lübeck is situated near the Baltic Sea. With its approximately inhabitants, it is a center of commerce, industry, and higher education that is playing an increasingly important role in bringing together the people of Denmark, Sweden, Finland, Russia, the Baltic States and Poland. Much of its architecture, dating back to the Middle Ages, is still intact in the older portion of town, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. With its many restaurants, cinemas, theaters, and clubs, the city offers a variety of recreation opportunities for young people. Lübeck offers a lively art scene, plays host to Northern Film Days and is the main venue for the world-famous Schleswig- Holstein Music Festival. Holstentor: the symbol of Lübeck.

6 TRAVEL INFORMATION From Hamburg Airport (HAM) to Lübeck take local train (S-Bahn 1) to Hamburg Hauptbahnhof/Hbf (Central Railway Station); runs every 10 minutes (duration of trip 25 minutes). From Hamburg Central Railway Station to Lübeck Hauptbahnhof/Hbf (Central Railway Station) take regional train (RE or RB); runs at least hourly (duration of trip 40 minutes).
