4 Concept and Idea of MEN The Management Education Network is a MBA in a nutshell providing management techniques to answer the following questions How will a global world change my business? How can I manage this influence on my business? How can I develop innovative products and services to react on theses influences? How can I manage the changes of internal processes and structures to meet new market requirements? How can I efficiently and effectively control the success and the gainings? How can I manage a sustainable change to stay competitive? 4
5 Methods used in MEN The Management Education Network provides three times a year an intensive learning environment at SIMT provides a case-oriented, cross-company, team learning enables the participants to work on a company specific case for 1 year to apply the management tools and techniques learnt in MEN provides a supervision for the company specific case during the year of MEN follows the idea of a community in which participants become part of network that will exist for years and in which professional friendships can arise integrates company representatives (twice a year) in order to get company feedback with regard to ongoing MEN discuss strategic topics to enrich MEN out of a company perspective Next company representatives meeting January, 23 rd 2014, 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. at SIMT building 5

9 Introduction Prof. Dr.-Ing. Joachim Warschat Director STI Management Education Prof. Dr.-Ing. Joachim Warschat studied engineering (special field: production engineering) at university of Stuttgart. In 1980 he was awarded a PhD with the topic "Dynamic optimization of technical and economic systems". Prof. Warschat qualified as a university lecturer with his research on "Planning Methods for just in time production and storage at optimal cost" in He is director at the Fraunhofer Institute for Industrial Engineering and Human Factors. Prof. Warschat is teaching and innovation management at Feruniversität Hagen. At university of Stuttgart he is teaching project management, simultaneous engineering, and simulation technology. 9
10 Lecturer of 1 st to 3 rd day (1 st week) Innovation Management Dr. Patrick Stähler Founder and partner of fluidminds Lecturer at University of St. Gallen, Zeppelin University, Leuphana University Lüneburg Dr. Patrick Stähler is founder and partner of fluidminds, a consultancy and think tank on disruptive and strategic innovation. fluidminds job is to rethink the business model of their customers. Customers are entrepreneurial managers of large firms that want or have to reinvent their business or entrepreneurs that have a great idea but have to work out their full business model. Besides his consulting work, he is lecturer at several universities particularly in the field of executive education. He trains executives of large corporations like OTTO, Deutsche Telekom, RUAG or Evonik in strategic innovation management. He started his professional career in banking initially at Deutsche Bank and later as an analyst in corporate finance at Lazard Frères where he was a member of the high-tech team. From 2002 to 2008 he worked in management of Swisscom IT Services AG, today the largest IT Services firm in Switzerland. There, he was in charge of strategy & business development for the Financial Services division and the Field Services organization. Patrick holds a Ph.D. in management from the University of St. Gallen. He wrote his thesis about Business Model Innovation in the digital age. At St. Gallen he also received his Msc. in Management. 10
11 Lecturer of 3 rd to 5 th day (1 st week) Strategic Management and Globalization Prof. Dr. John Glen Senior Lecturer in Economics Cranfield School of Management, UK Prof. Glen specializes in teaching micro economics, industrial organization and is the author of several books relating to competition policy and deregulation. His teaching at Cranfield School of Management has contributed to the electives on Economic Perspectives on Globalization, Advanced Macroeconomics Economic, Economics of Organizations and Strategy and Quantitative Methods. Prof. Glen has recently completed a sector risk assessment for a European Bank. He is currently researching the impact of Regional Development Agencies on Local Government Economic Development Strategies (sponsored by UNISON), He is also an advisor to the London Development Agency and the Greater London Authority. Prof. Glen recently provided advise to the English Football Association on television rights negotiations for FA cup and Team England television rights. Prof. Glen also holds a number of Non Executive directorships. Prof. Glen has a BSc in Economics from the University of Wales and an MSc in Economics from the University of Salford. 11

Marco Cantamessa Professor at DISPEA - Dipartimento dei Sistemi di Produzione ed Economia dell'azienda, Politecnico di Torino, Italy Laurea Degree in Electronics Engineering, Politecnico di Torino / Full professor of manufacturing technology and systems / Research consultant at the Mario Boella Institute in Turin / Chairman of the Board and CEO of the I3P business incubator in Turin His research activities have been carried out in the field of operations management, concerning both manufacturing (enterprise modeling and engineering, agent-based manufacturing systems, e- marketplace design, negotiation in electronic commerce) and product development (methodological and technological innovation in product development, design coordination, product architecture design). Such activities have mostly been performed within basic and applied research projects, both at national and European level. Research has led to the authoring or co-authoring of more than a hundred scientific papers, of which twenty appeared in international refereed journals. 12

Goethe University Frankfurt Uwe Walz received his Ph.D. in economics from the University of Tübingen in 1991 and completed his habilitation at the University of Mannheim in Prior to joining the faculty of Goethe University in October 2002 he was a Professor of Economics at the University of Bochum ( ) and at the University of Tübingen ( ). Furthermore, he was a visiting research fellow at the London School of Economics and at the University of California at Berkeley. Currently, he is director of the research program Entrepreneurial Finance at the Center for Financial Studies (CFS) and research professor at the center for European Economic Research (ZEW). 14
15 Lecturer of 3 rd to 5 th day (3 rd week) Managing Strategic Change Prof. Dr. Ron Sanchez PhD in Technology Strategy, MS in Civil Engineering, BS in Architecture and BS in Humanities and Science from MIT and an Executive MBA (with honors) from Saint Mary s College of California. Ron Sanchez is Visiting Professor of Management at Copenhagen Business School (Department of Industrial Economics and Strategy) and National University of Singapore. Prior to these positions, Dr. Sanchez was Professor of Strategy and Technology Management at IMD (International Institute for Management Development), Lausanne, Switzerland. Before joining IMD on July, Prof. Sanchez was a Visiting Professor of Management at the Copenhagen Business School ( ); Associate Professor of Management at the University of Western Australia ( ); Assistant Professor of Policy and Strategy at the University of Illinois ( ); Visiting Professor of Strategic Management at Ecole Supérieure des Sciences Economiques et Commerciales (ESSEC). Prof. Sanchez was also a consultant in establishing joint ventures and product development collaborations between U.S., European and Japanese firms. His research interests include theory and practice of competence-based strategic management; Modularity in product, process, and knowledge based architectures; knowledge management and strategic organizational learning; options theory in strategic management and strategic flexibility. 15
16 Introduction and Transfer Workshop Case Coordinator Dipl.-Ing. Michael Bucher Head of Competence Team Technology Management at the Fraunhofer Institute for Industrial Engineering and Human Factors Michael Bucher studied Machine Engineering at the University of Stuttgart with the main focus on technology management and logistic systems. After his graduation in 1999, he joined the Fraunhofer Institute of Industrial Engineering and Human Factors. He consults companies in the fields of knowledge management, process engineering, innovation management and organizational development. His research interests focus on the assessment of organizational behavior and the development of management strategies for organization and technology. 16
17 Required Presentations: Transfer Workshops / Final Presentation Transfer Workshops at the end of 1 st and 2 nd week Transfer Workshops will take place at the end of each week The objective is to prepare a short (!) presentation rolling up the subjects of the lectures of the week focusing on the participant s company situation Templates with questions will be provided At the beginning of the 2 nd and 3 rd the results are presented to the group (max. 15 min including questions / discussion) Final Presentation at the end of 3 rd week The Final Presentation will be held at the end of the 3 rd week. It should not take more than 15 minutes. The audience consists of MEN participants and representatives of the participating network companies. The presentation should show an adoption of the lessons learned out of the 1 st and 2 nd week applied to the specific situation of the company (or department / unit) and your MEN key findings. The results of the transfer workshops can and should be re-used for the final presentation Usually, templates based on company s individual CI are used The topic or at least a (preliminary) headline should be defined at the end of the 2 nd week Ideally the presentation should be finalized before the beginning of the 3 rd week. 17

19 Managing with sucess in Asia Co-operation with Center for East Asian Studies of Stanford University Prof. Richard B. Dasher Director, US-Asia Technology Management Center at Stanford University Executive Director, Center for Integrated Systems at Stanford University Consulting Professor, Stanford University In this 2.5 day program, participants will develop a broad understanding of the business systems and cultural challenges in the Asian business environment, e.g. hiring and retention, government relations and IP management. Through this program, they will develop skills in "reading the situation" and devise a conceptual framework for cooperation with their respective teams in various regions across Asia. Participants will also achieve clarity on mistaken assumptions associated with the dichotomy of establishing global partnerships in Asia.
