4 BC DEMOGRAPHICS Average age of BC resident today is 40.7 years (2009) Average will continue rise as population ages and birth rates decline By 2011 more people exiting the workforce than entering it 1 million more jobs in BC than people to fill them Declining birth rates affect enrolment, falling by 50,000 students ( ) in BC s public schools (from a population of close to 500,000). K-12 set to lose over 7000 students this year.
