Every part of the BAM internship experience is important, whether working in a group in your department or on individual projects. Therefore it is critical that your commitment to the work and hours is absolute. Because spaces are limited, only students who can fully commit their time and remain in the program through its entirety should apply. Please read the guidelines below before submitting your application to ensure that you meet the qualifications. In order to apply, you must: Be at least a junior or senior in high school Be able to provide your own transportation Provide at least two letters of recommendations from current or former employers, teachers, advisors, and/or mentors. No relatives. Have a 3.0 GPA Be set to graduate by June 2014 or 2015, and plan on applying to college Be available to intern 3 days/week December May for three hours per day between the hours of 3pm and 7pm Attend four orientation sessions: Nov 12, 14, 19, & 21 from 3:30 6:30pm. Adhere to BAM rules and regulations Maintain respectable professional conduct at all times Please complete the application with your guardian and sign below. 4 Brooklyn Interns for Arts & Culture Application Parent and/or Guardian Application Form This form is to be filled out by the Parent and/or Legal Guardian of the Student Applying Your child is currently applying to be a part of the BAM Brooklyn Interns for Arts & Culture Program. This exclusive 23-week program will allow your child to learn the nuts and bolts of how performing arts organizations put on productions and programs, and gain insight into the diversity of arts-management careers available in the field through valuable work experience with a professional team, work-readiness workshops, one-on-one mentorship, assignments to further develop their skills, as well as the opportunity to attend BAM performances. In October 2013, BAM will be hiring eight interns to participate in the Brooklyn Interns for Arts & Culture Program. Priority consideration will be given to interns from Brooklyn high schools. Interns will work at BAM three days a week for a total of 9 hours, including a mandatory workshop on Tuesday afternoons. Interns will work in BAM s administrative offices located in Fort Greene, just steps from the Atlantic Avenue subway station. Students who successfully complete the internship program will be paid through stipend. If an intern does not complete the program, he/she will be paid out for the hours he/she has worked thus far. For this reason, students have an obligation to accurately report their hours. Students who successfully complete the internship program also have the opportunity to continue on this career track through two different programs at BAM. The summer directly following their internship, participants are eligible to return to BAM as paid counselors for our Summer Youth Workshops, where they can learn more about arts education and the implementation of this type of programming. They may also be able to continue to work in their respective department, dependent on the capacity of the department. Students who successfully complete the internship will also be given priority consideration should they choose to become part of BAM s College Internship Program, which is available to them during all semesters of their college careers. Because this is such an exclusive group of interns, BAM requires total dedication in regards to attendance, punctuality, and assignments. With that in mind, please be aware of the following dates: Internship Applications are due Nov 1, Priority Consideration will be given to applications turned in by October 25, Interviews will take place the week of Nov 4 Interns must attend four days of orientation on Nov 12, 14, 19, and 21 from 3:30pm-6:30pm Interns will start interning on the week of Monday, Dec 2. Interns will spend 9 hours at BAM each week: Two full work days, scheduled between Monday and Friday and lasting for 3 hours between the hours of 3 to 7pm, plus a mandatory workshop every Tuesday from 3:30 to 6:30pm. Interns are not expected to intern when school is not in session; however, if they have missed days, they can schedule to make up those hours on those days if their department is not on holiday. Interns will be invited to attend all DanceAfrica Pre-Opening and Opening events on Saturday, May 17 and Sunday, May 18. These videos and blogs may be viewed by the public through BAM s web and social media sites.
