3 Aston s Long Pharmacy Tradition Over 160 years in Birmingham Established as the Birmingham Pharmaceutical Institution in 1847 and supported people preparing for the Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain examination. Formally called the Birmingham School of Pharmacy in 1919 and a formal Department of Pharmacy in Aston has awarded its own BSc Pharmacy degree since 1966 Four year MPharm since s 1930s 1960s

7 MPharm Couse Fully accredited by regulator Pharmacy is a professionally accredited course 4 year MPharm programme, followed by 1 year pre-registration training (independent from Universities) All MPharm degrees must be accredited by our regulator Teaching and learning quality Validates the course for up to six years at a time Most recent accreditation took place in February 2013 Secured full 6-years accreditation period The MPharm programme has been continually fully accredited by the regulator since its inception

8 How an Aston MPharm programme is delivered Integrated professional course Extensive clinical, healthcare and sciences training Taught in small and large group Well balanced (Now 46 staff) Internationally recognised researchers >50% registered pharmacists (Science and healthcare) Typically students will spend full days (6-8 hours) on campus each week, of which at least 50% is application/practicals (tutorials, workshops and laboratory sessions).

18 Frequently Asked Questions How competitive are you? We have 170 places available We receive around 6-8 applications per place International appeal (~20% of entrants from outside of the UK/EU) What are you looking for? Show us you want to be a pharmacist! Show us your passion for healthcare and science. Work experience is not required. Medicine/Dentistry/Optometry applicants are welcome to apply but we would like to see a pharmacy focussed application.

19 Frequently Asked Questions Do you interview? We want to meet you rather than your UCAS form! In order to obtain an offer you are required to attend a pre-offer formal interview to help you stand out and sell yourself. Interviews last 10 minutes and are on a basis We ask 3 questions to assess critical thinking, problem solving and arithmetic Do you offer flexibility In short, yes.

You need to have predicted grades= CCC+ You will be invited in for an interview On the interview day you will get (if successful) one of two types of offers: AAB or ABB Flexibility: when finalising your choices, if you put us down as first choice we will guarantee to take you with 1-grade less when your results come out: Offer is AAB but we will accept ABB Offer is ABB but we will accept BBB
