3 Annual Advancement Plan Purpose: The Comprehensive Advancement Model consists of both Operations/ Strategy and Revenue components driving Communications and Relationships From these components the JPII annual advancement plan is designed. The JPII advancement program is annually designed to ensure that our schools remain viable (enrollment) and sustainable (the financial model under which our schools operate) both in the short and long-term. 4 Choir Platforms Purpose: To purchase lumber, hardware, and other supplies to build platforms for the use of the choral and theatre departments in conjunction with a student s Eagle Scout Project. Cost: $1,200 Timeframe: January-February 2018 Subject Areas: : Music, Theatre Additional Benefits: These platforms will be placed in our music rehearsal spaces. These will replace our performance risers in the classroom, increasing the longevity of the risers, which cost about $20,000. Students will be able to sit on chairs instead of the risers themselves, improving vocal and instrumental technique and breath support. These will help with classroom organization, allowing more time to focus on learning. At certain times, our stage is not available for theatre rehearsals. These platforms will aid the rehearsal process by giving the actors space to work on a set without being on stage. These will not only help the music department but may be used for awards ceremonies and other events.

5 Church Music of the Americas Association Summer Colloquium Minneapolis Purpose: To support the professional development of our staff by sending a teacher to the CMAA Summer Colloquium to study sacred church music, the General Instruction of the Roman Missal, traditional Roman Catholic worship styles, and church history in music. Fully Funded Cost: $600 Timeframe: June 2017 Subject Areas: Music, Religion, History, Latin Additional Benefits: The Diocese of Fargo is very excited about the opportunity for a teacher at Shanley High School to go to this summer conference with the hopes that furthering this teacher s knowledge of sacred liturgy and music, weekly masses at Shanley High School may grow further in their sacred traditions and be an example of proper liturgical worship for all. This teacher may also present work and materials from this conference for the rest of the JPII Network to help all church musicians become even better at their practice of music in liturgy.

6 Elementary Foreign Language Purpose: Foreign Language is an important aspect to students as they learn about Cost: $100,000 Timeframe: 3 year commitment Subject Areas: Spanish would be the easiest program to implement and would come with a wide variety of resources in the local community. It would also fit well with service learning components that we could access. Additional Benefits: This type of program would make JPII Schools more competitive in our offerings. A sustainable Elementary Foreign Language Program is something that would move our academic program into an elite status in the area. Guaranteeing students entering 6th grade would have 5-6 years of a foreign language would put them on the path for starting another language in high school or at least receiving college credit before graduation.

7 Giving Hearts Day Match Funding Purpose: To provide the JPII Schools match funding for Dakota Medical Foundation s annual Giving Hearts Day 24 Hour online fundraising event. Cost: $100,000 Timeframe: Giving Hearts Day is the 2nd Thursday in February, but match funds need to be pledged ahead of time; they can be give any time before June 30th. Subject Areas: Annual JPII Operating Costs Additional Benefits: Funds raised on Giving Hearts Day benefit all JPII students by keeping tuition affordable, enhancing academic curriculum and supporting qualified teaching and support staff. presents Hosted By: impactgiveback.org 24 Hour Online Fundraising Event The Mission of the St.John Paul II Schools is to inspire exceptional student achievement by teaching the

8 Resource Room for Sullivan Middle School Purpose: To create a position of Supervisor for a Resource Room for Sullivan Middle School to monitor those students who are on IEP s or 504 s, those attending our schools as international students, or individuals who are falling behind in school work. Cost: $35,000 Timeframe: One Year Additional Benefits: This position would have a direct impact on our students that are most at risk. A Resource Room Supervisor can see the big picture and help students that are at risk across the curriculum. The Supervisor and the classroom teachers collaborate as a team to differentiate instruction to best meet the needs of our students. Resource Room Study hall that is monitored by the Resource Room Supervisor. Students at risk would be assigned to the study hall. Supervisor would monitor missing work and grades for all at risk students. Supervisor would work with teachers to differentiate instruction. After School Homework Room Resource Room Supervisor would be available in an after school study room for all students who need additional help on homework. Resource Room Supervisor can help students who have extended absences to catch up on their school work. 504 Coordinator The Supervisor would track accommodations for 504 students and aid teachers in strategies for accommodations. The Supervisor would work with the principal, counselor, and teachers to identify who would benefit from a 504 plan and help to formulate suggestions for accommodations.

9 Teacher Master Degree-Dual Credit Purpose: To support the professional development of our staff through the funding of a teacher to complete his/her Master s degree. With dual credit certification a high school teacher will be able to teach classes that count for dual credit (high school and college through the University of Mary). Cost: $7,000-$14,000 Timeframe: 3 year commitment Subject Areas: We have teachers in the areas of English, Science and Math who are interested in this professional development opportunity. Additional Benefits: Students making a choice about high schools consider AP and dual credit courses to be very important. As we look to increase enrollment through excellence, this is a program that will impact enrollment into the future.

11 Teacher Bioethics Masters Degree: Religion Purpose: To promote the Mission of the St. John Paul II Catholic Schools by advancing the professional development of our staff through the funding of a teacher who is currently studying for his master s degree in Bioethics. Cost: $16,000 ($5,050 funded; $10,950 remaining) Timeframe: 2 year commitment Subject Areas: Religion Additional Benefits: Your generous support of this staff member will assist in improving the quality of religious education provided to students who attend Shanley High school, as the degree is being pursued through an institute devoted to applying magisterial teaching to modern science. The program in bioethics through the University of Mary and the National Catholic Bioethics Center offers a premier instruction in current moral issues.

13 Saint John s Bible Exhibit Tours at the Historical and Cultural Society of Clay County Cost: School groups discounted price is $5.00 per student attending. JPII older elementary, middle school, and high school students number 800-some. Fully funded = $4, Timeframe: October 1-December 31, 2017 Subject Areas: Religion, Art, Social Studies, Languages, etc. Additional Benefits: The largest exhibition in the museum s history will feature 68 original folios of the first illuminated and hand-written Bible to be commissioned by a Benedictine monastery in 500 years. The calligraphy, artwork, and Biblical themes are stunning and invite contemplation: Visio Divina. (Sacred seeing.) The exhibition will also include tools, sketches, materials, and rare books that give insight into the creation process. This is an extraordinary inter-disciplinary opportunity for our students. Students will also be able to tour other museum exhibits including the Hjemkomst ship, the Hopperstad replica stave church, etc.

14 Shanley/Sullivan Sign Purpose: To replace existing 15 year old sign with updated structure with electronic messaging capabilities. Cost: $60,000 ($5,000 funded; $55,000 remaining)

15 SMART Labs Purpose: To have SMART Labs at Sullivan Middle School, Holy Spirit and Trinity Elementaries. Cost: $70,000 per lab (Lab installation fully funded) Sustaining: $35,000 annually Subject Areas: STEM and Media Arts Additional Benefits: SmartLabs integrate technology exploration with academics in a powerful hands-on, minds-on learning environment. Core subject knowledge is reinforced through applied learning engaging and motivating students while improving academic performance. SmartLabs prepare learners to compete in a global economy by developing 21st century skills such as problem solving, critical thinking, collaboration, communication (written, oral, and advanced media), self-direction, project management, and application of technology. The SmartLab is designed to challenge and engage students of ALL abilities - from gifted and talented to special needs and at-risk. The curriculum engages students by adapting to their individual learning styles and encouraging them to steer projects in directions that are personally relevant. Highlights: SmartLabs are fully-integrated, turnkey classroom systems. They include hardware, software, furniture, electronics and media equipment, construction sets and manipulatives, server and network resources, curriculum and assessment systems, professional development and ongoing support. Each SmartLab is specifically designed for each school based on their model of usage (how the SmartLab is to be scheduled and how it will support their overall academic mission), facility requirements and budget.
