3 HISTORY 3 The history of Ural University started in Later, it was divided into 2 separate institutions: Ural State University (USU) and Ural State Technical University (USTU-UPI). In 2009 the University was awarded the federal status. In 2011, both institutions were merged once again, becoming Ural Federal University. Since 2008 it bears the name of Boris Yeltsin, the first President of Russia, being the University s graduate of 1955.

11 Studies: Short-term programs 11 Annually we hold winter and summer schools for international students (duration from 2 to 4 weeks). The schools are a perfect combination of studies (economics, HR management, regional studies), courses of Russian for beginners, cultural program and fun. Доля статей с иностранным участием, % One of the most popular international short-term program at UrFU is a project called Russian Studies in Real Russia : students from all over the world can to choose to spend 3 weeks in winter or in summer in Ekaterinburg, learn a lot about the Russian language and culture, visit a lot of places of interest in the city and in the region and make new friends! Another large-scale project is UrFU Winter & Summer University an annual program that takes place during winter and summer holidays. It combines internships and short-term programs in different areas of training. Starting from a request of the foreign partner or students, each particular program may differ in the number of hours, terms and ECTS. However, all courses could be united by joint project teamwork. Within this joint project students are united in mixed (according to field of training and country) group, which gives the opportunity to develop not only their professional skills, but also communicative ones.

15 Strategic Academic Units In 2016 we ve established three Strategic Academic Units on the basis of the leading UrFU Institutes: Institute of Natural Sciences and Mathematics Institute of Radio electronics and Information Technologies Institute of New Materials and Technologies The project of Strategic Academic Units is aimed at increasing the level of engineering training, developing the framework for training the new generation of highly qualified engineers and bringing together breakthrough research and education.
