2 Graduate School is not like Undergrad Shorter degree (fewer credits) Less room for mistakes in course selection or course performance Courses you take may not automatically apply to your degree You may need to request them to apply to degree Some rules are different Minimum GPA, repeated courses, time limit, etc.

3 More differences Courses aren t all you do Culminating Project Thesis, dissertation, research paper, portfolio, etc. May have practicum, internship Research may be required Can be more difficult (than undergrad) to predict when you will graduate

4 Your academic information Your Student Center tab in MyUNIverse grades, financial aid, your bill, student requests, tracking your progress to degree, applying to graduate, etc. Your Academic Requirements Report Available through Student Center Also called your Advisement Report Formerly called Program of Study or Degree Audit

5 Academic Requirements Report Your map and tracking document Contains the degree requirements from the catalog You can register from it You can see how your courses are applying to the degree (or not) Change needed? Submit a student request. You can see what requirements remain to be satisfied You can see your Plan GPA (program GPA) Reported along with your cumulative GPA when your degree is awarded

7 Courses in Progress The Advisement Report will treat a course In Progress as satisfying credits and requirements. Once the term has passed, classes with insufficient grades, no grade, I (Incomplete), RC, will be moved to Courses Not Used. For I, RC, or no grade, the course will return to its place in the Advisement Report once the professor reports a grade.

8 Keep It Up To Date Keep your Academic Requirements Report up to date No mad scramble at graduation time No last minute problems with eligibility for assistantship and/or scholarship Your registration, your advisement report, and your degree progress are your responsibility. Your department/faculty are there to help and advise, not to do it for you.

9 Student Requests How you keep your Advisement Report up to date Get into this routine 1. Register for classes 2. Look at the Advisement Report with your advisor and/or graduate coordinator 3. If any courses are not plotting on the report the way they should, submit a student request right away.

12 Completing a Student Request Consult your advisor about wording. See the Student Request Workshop Powerpointat List of All News and Announcements Address, phone and you select are just for this request it doesn t update the SIS. Click Submit just once

14 Tips for Success Read your from university personnel carefully!! All official correspondence is sent to your UNI Students who don t read their lose out on money or worse Look at your records The accuracy is your responsibility. Meeting degree requirements is your responsibility. Know the rules Read the info from your department, but also read the university policies and graduate policies. When in doubt, ask me! Don t leave campus until your paper, thesis, or dissertation is nearly finished!
