9 FULL DISCLOSURE POLICY Marks for all grade 11 and 12 courses in which you are enrolled beyond a set cut off date will be recorded on your official transcript For grades 9 and 10, only courses that have successfully been completed are recorded on your official transcript

10 FULL DISCLOSURE DATE The cut off date after which grade 11 or 12 course marks will appear on the official transcript Courses dropped before this date are not recorded on the transcript The mark at the time of withdrawal after this date will be recorded on the transcript This only has implications for very few programs

11 FULL DISCLOSURE DATES Five days after mid-term report cards are distributed November 23, 2018 (Semester 1) April 30, 2019 (Semester 2)

12 ABOUT PRIVATE SCHOOL COURSES If you are taking a private school course this or next semester: Consult with your post-secondary institution to ensure they will accept private school courses Obtain and fill out a Private School Form from the guidance office ASAP

13 ABOUT PRIVATE SCHOOL COURSES Private schools that are authorized to grant credits have Ministry of Education Numbers called MIDENT numbers BE SURE THE PRIVATE SCHOOL WHERE YOU TAKE COURSES HAS A MIDENT NUMBER Final marks are due by June 7 th

14 ABOUT PRIVATE SCHOOL MARKS Alexander Mackenzie High School cannot be responsible for courses that are being taken outside of York Region District School Board If you are taking a private school course, the private school is responsible for ensuring that your midterm and final marks are sent to OUAC to be considered for your application to University Be sure that your private school knows this!

17 ABOUT APPRENTICESHIP Earn while you learn: 85% of the learning takes place on the job taught one on one by a journeyperson already certified in the trade 15% of the learning will take place in apprenticeship courses usually taught at a local community college Talk with the Co-op Department if you are considering going into the trades or you want more information

19 GENERAL COLLEGE ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS Varies according to program: Diploma Programs demand an OSSD with a minimum of grade 12 College level English and specific requirements listed in the college calendars and websites Bachelor s Degree Programs and Joint College- University Programs adhere to the university admission requirements Language Proficiency requirement for students whose 1 st language is not English (e.g. TOEFL)

20 COLLEGE COSTS ONTARIO College tuition fees are usually between $2000 $3000 per year for diploma programs Bachelor degree program fees are usually between $ $6000 per year Some specialized programs, ie. the dental hygienist program, can cost up to $15000 per year for tuition alone. Books, supplies and other fees may cost an additional $650 -$1000 College residence cost about $6000, not including meals

21 COLLEGE TO UNIVERSITY Many partnerships exist between colleges and universities often involving granting of advanced standing in university programs after completion of partnered college programs Institution specific agreements

24 ABOUT UNIVERSITY Length of degrees: # of courses taken per year: 5 4 years Program admission requirements differ International Universities vary in their requirements Lack of uniformity between universities demands that offerings of each be examined individually Researching options is critical!

25 GENERAL UNIVERSITY ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS OSSD Average in 6 grade 12 courses including English & program specific requirements (only U or M courses) Repeated/non-day school courses may be treated differently Language Proficiency requirement for students whose 1 st language is not English (e.g. TOEFL) Offers of admission will state conditions (ex. average you must maintain/achieve)

26 UNIVERSITY COSTS ONTARIO Typically, university tuition costs are between $ $12000 per year for regular programs Typical commerce and engineering fees range from $ $15000 Residence fees up to $13000, depending on the school and whether a meal plan is included Books and other incidental fees add another $1500 to $2500 per year

32 COLLEGE APPLICATION PROCESS College: Ontario College Application Service OCAS Guidance transmits Student Data to OCAS Potential Grads may begin to complete the Online Application Equal Consideration Deadline: February 1, 2019

33 COLLEGE APPLICATION PROCESS Fees: Up to 5 program choices for $95.00 No more than 3 program choices from any 1 college Applications not processed until fee is paid (Date fee is received by OCAS is considered the date of application) Fees are non-refundable Be sure you are eligible for your selections!

34 REPORTING MARKS TO ONTARIO COLLEGES Marks are reported to OCAS in a similar time frame as they are reported to OUAC The same policies adhere to courses taken at Private Schools
