1 Important Deadlines For Spring 2019 Dual Enrollment PantherWeb Registration Period at Palm Beach State College: October 9 January 3 Will have access to register 48 hours after submitting paperwork to PBSC Take PERT & Attend an Advising Session at PBSC by Thursday, December 13 Make an appointment with your guidance counselor to turn in test scores and complete Dual Enrollment Permission and Registration Form by Friday, December 14 Have your parent/legal guardian sign Dual Enrollment Permission and Registration Form and turn into PBSC by Monday, December 17 Must log-on and finalize course selection via PantherWeb by Thursday, January 3 * Palm Beach State College is closed for Winter Break December 20 January 1 and Spring Break March 4 March 10

2 DUAL ENROLLMENT PROCEDURES FOR PALM BEACH GARDENS HIGH SCHOOL High School Dual Enrollment is an opportunity for students to concurrently earn high school credit and tuition-free college credit. Dual enrollment courses may satisfy high school graduation requirements and allow for early high school graduation. Grades earned through dual enrollment become part of a student s permanent high school and college transcripts and receive 1.5 times the standard weight in high school. CONDITIONS OF DUAL ENROLLMENT All new students to dual enrollment must complete an admissions application and sign-up to attend an Information Advising Session at PBSC Must be classified a sophomore, junior, or senior for the semester of enrollment, with the exception of freshmen who have earned 4 high school credits including 1 English credit and 1 math credit Have a 3.0 GPA at the time of registration for dual enrollment courses each semester Have College Ready scores for all sections of the SAT, ACT, or PERT College courses must be 3 credits or more, which may be equivalent to either.5 or 1 high school credit, unless it is a co-requisite lab Limit of 8 college credits each Fall and Spring term and any combination of Summer term A, B, or C Limited to earning a maximum of 60 credit hours through dual enrollment and/or early admission Must satisfy all pre-requisites for specific college courses Must complete all college courses attempted Maintain a C or higher in each college course to remain eligible for dual enrollment College prep courses are not allowed Allowed up to two periods off campus for dual enrollment courses, one per class (periods 1, 2, 6, and 7 only) May take a dual enrollment course as an 8 th period class College courses cannot conflict with the high school schedule college courses taken Monday thru Friday must have a start time of 3:30pm or after Transportation to dual enrollment classes is the responsibility of the student Graduating seniors cannot dual enroll Summer term A, B, or C after their senior year Early Admission: Rising seniors in good standing, with a 3.2 GPA, and College Ready scores for all sections of the SAT, ACT, CPT, or PERT can apply for admissions to attend college full time. If a student selects a college that has a Dual Enrollment Articulation Agreement with the School District of Palm Beach County, tuition and book fees are waived. Early admission students must take college courses equivalent to remaining graduation requirements, earn at least 12 credits Fall and Spring terms, complete all courses attempted, and maintain a 2.0 or higher college GPA each semester to remain in the program. Early admission students are allowed to participate in graduation activities but cannot be valedictorians or salutatorians. Interested students should see their guidance counselors before the Fall dual enrollment deadline. Full Time Dual Enrollment: Rising seniors maintaining a 3.0 GPA and needing 6 hours or less to graduate may be able to take two dual enrollment courses per semester without taking any classes on the high school campus. If this option is chosen, no class on the high school campus can be taken either semester. A grade of D, F, or W in a dual enrollment course will result in being dropped from the program and could affect graduation. Interested students should see their guidance counselors before the Fall dual enrollment deadline. Early Graduation: Rising juniors maintaining a 3.0 GPA may be able to complete additional classes required for high school graduation through dual enrollment, allowing for graduation at the end of the junior year. Interested students should see their guidance counselors for guidelines before the Fall dual enrollment deadline. EARLY ADMISSION, FULL TIME DUAL ENROLLMENT, AND EARLY GRADUATION ARE NOT RECOMMENDED FOR STUDENTS WANTING TO BE COMPETITIVE WHEN APPLYING TO COLLEGES/UNIVERSITIES. THESE OPTIONS ARE RECOMMENDED FOR STUDENTS PLANNING ON ATTENDING A STATE/COMMUNITY COLLEGE AFTER HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATION.

3 IMPORTANT INFORMATION Parents/guardians DO NOT have access to progress reports, grades, assignments/coursework, or college instructors for parent conferences or attendance verifications, nor does the School District of Palm Beach County. Students taking Dual Enrollment courses are college students and FERPA regulations apply. Students taking dual enrollment courses are subject to the rules, regulations, codes of conduct, and academic expectations of Palm Beach State College (PBSC). Course content and discussions will be presented on an adult level and require a mature understanding of divergent viewpoints. Commitment to dual enrollment courses is for the entire semester. Permission from your counselor is required to drop or withdraw from a college course and will be given only for reasons deemed valid by your guidance counselor and the dual enrollment coordinator. Students cannot withdraw from dual enrollment courses past the deadline (see College Calendar), even if they move out of district. Students will not be allowed to withdraw from dual enrollment courses, even if they withdraw to another school in Palm Beach County. Students must officially withdraw from dual enrollment courses they are no longer attending. The instructors may or may not have a WX (withdrawn for non-attendance) policy. The student will receive a failing grade if the Registrar does not receive an official withdrawal by the deadline (see College Calendar). A withdrawal from a dual enrollment course after the acceptable high school schedule change period may result in loss of credit. Because college and high school curricula are not transferable, a transition to the high school too late in the semester may not be possible, which could affect graduation. Withdrawing from a dual enrollment course could prevent you from receiving financial aid at the college/university you will attend. Students earning a grade of C, D, F, or W in a dual enrollment course may have difficulty meeting future college admissions requirements and the qualifications for financial aid/scholarship opportunities, including Florida Bright Futures Scholarship. Students who withdraw from a college course are no longer eligible for dual enrollment or early admit and will be charged 75% of the total cost of the textbook. YOU MUST ABIDE BY ALL DEADLINES. THERE WILL BE NO APPEAL FOR ANY STUDENT WHO MISSES ANY DEADLINE. STEP 1- APPLICATION PROCESS New students to dual enrollment must complete the PBSC application at the PBSC website: The application is free of charge for dual enrollment. Select Dual Enrolled High School Student/Dual Enrollment where applicable. The appropriate program code for Dual Enrollment is Fill out the high school information with your expected graduation information. Dual enrolled students are not required to provide documentation of Florida residency nor are they required to fill out the residence affidavit. In this section, you are only required to check that you are a dependent and include your parent/legal guardian name as the claimant. STEP 2- INFORMATION/ADVISING SESSION SIGN-UP PROCESS Required for new dual enrollment students only Held the 2nd and 4th Wednesday at the Palm Beach Gardens campus

4 Go to and click on PantherWeb. Log into PantherWeb using the student ID number found on your application confirmation page received immediately after the application is submitted and the password you created with the application. On the PantherWeb home page, go to the yellow menu bar on the top and click Information. Click on Dual Enrollment Information/Advising Sessions. The dates/times for the available sessions will be displayed. Click on the session you will be attending, fill in the name of your high school, and click Register Now. Print your confirmation with the session details. Special Notes: You will not be admitted if you do not arrive on time or if your name is not on the roster. You must bring a Photo ID. If you need to cancel or reschedule your session, contact Dual Enrollment campus contact by using your college address. STEP 3- POSTSECONDARY EDUCATION READINESS TEST (PERT) You can take the PERT prior to attending an Information/Advising Session. Students must take the PERT at PBSC if they do not have college ready SAT/ACT/PERT scores. The PERT is composed of three sections which are 30 questions each: Reading, Writing, and Math. Dual enrollment students are permitted to take the PERT for FREE, one time only. If you wish to take the PERT again, the cost of the test is $ To test, you must have a PBSC application on file at PBSC, and you must bring a Photo ID. Appointments are not necessary. The PERT is untimed, and you must allow a minimum of 3 hours to complete the test. Plan on arriving at PBSC at least 4 hours before the test center closes. You will be given your test score report immediately after you finish testing. Bring your test score report to your guidance counselor before the deadline to make an appointment with your guidance counselor to complete the Dual Enrollment Permission and Registration Form. Study Guide: College Readiness Scores TEST Writing/Language or English Reading Math SAT ACT PERT The test is given at the Palm Beach Gardens campus Monday and Thursday, 8am-7pm; Tuesday and Wednesday, 8am-8pm; and Friday, 8am-4pm, except during Summer term. For more information about the PERT, including days and times the test is given at other campuses, visit the PBSC website: STEP 4- ACTIVATING PANTHERWEB AND ACCOUNTS Check your personal account, including spam, for your Conditions of Admissions letter. Go to and click on PantherWeb. Log into your PantherWeb account using the student ID and pin number found in your Conditions of Admissions letter. On your PantherWeb homepage, click Go To my.palmbeachstate . Enter your password the password to activate your account is your date of birth (MMDDYY). Change your password.

5 STEP 5- REGISTERING FOR CLASSES 1. Go to and click on Search for Classes. 2. Decide which course(s) you want to take and choose at least two alternates per course. 3. Make an appointment with your guidance counselor to complete a Dual Enrollment Permission and Registration Form. You must bring your SAT, ACT, or PERT test scores to this appointment. 3. Have your parent/legal guardian sign the Dual Enrollment Permission and Registration. 4. Take the completed Dual Enrollment Permission and Registration Form to PBSC to receive prior authorization for classes. It may take up to 48 hours to receive prior authorization. PBSC will send an notification to your PBSC address when you have received prior authorization. 5. Once you receive the PBSC indicating you have received prior authorization, log onto your PantherWeb account to officially select your course(s). PantherWeb course selection can only take place during the dual enrollment registration period, starting at 12:01am on the first day of registration. 6. Print and bring your official schedule to the guidance office for Book Vouchers. Read the course description in the catalog before you select any course. Check carefully to see if test scores are required or if there is a pre-requisite or a lab involved. You can access the catalog and course descriptions online at the PBSC web site: Avoid courses designated AS since they are usually not transferable to a public university. If you want courses that will transfer to a public university or community college, contact that specific university or college for its requirements. Your guidance counselor cannot guarantee transferability of courses. Completing/signing the dual enrollment form does not guarantee you a spot in a class. See your guidance counselor, submit paperwork to PBSC, and register on Pantherweb as early as possible to improve your chances of getting the class you want. STEP 6- PURCHASING TEXTBOOKS 1. You will need to print your official schedule from PantherWeb after course selection. 2. Bring the schedule to a secretary in the PBGHS guidance office the following school day. You will be issued a book voucher, which allows you to obtain your textbook free of charge. The School District of Palm Beach County will not pay for ACCESS CODES, LAB KITS, CLICKERS, or books not required by your instructor. It will be your choice to purchase access codes and non-required study guides, notes, etc. If you want to buy your own textbook, inform the secretary when you turn in your schedule, and you will not be issued a voucher. 3. Student enrolling in Summer term A, B, and/or C must get their book vouchers before the last day of school. There will be no one in the guidance office during the summer to give out book vouchers. 4. Take the book voucher to the BOOKSMART closest to the PBSC campus you are attending within the first week of the term. Do not use any on-campus bookstore you will be charged for your textbook if you go there. 5. Let the appropriate personnel at BOOKSMART know you are a high school dual enrollment student when you present your book voucher. They will give you a textbook. 6. Bring the pink and goldenrod copies of your book voucher form back to a secretary in the PBGHS guidance office the following school day. BOOKSMART will retain the white and yellow copies

6 IF YOU DO NOT OBTAIN YOUR TEXTBOOK WITHIN THE FIRST WEEK OF THE TERM, YOU COULD BE TURNED AWAY FROM BOOKSMART. IN THIS EVENT, YOU WOULD BE REQUIRED TO TAKE THE COURSE WITHOUT A BOOK OR PURCHASE A BOOK AT AN ON-CAMPUS BOOKSTORE, IF AVAILABLE, AT YOUR EXPENSE. WE WILL NOT DROP A STUDENT FROM A COURSE FOR NOT OBTAINING A TEXTBOOK IN A TIMELY MANNER. STEP 7- PARKING DECALS Students must obtain a free parking decal from the Cashier s Office; there is a charge for replacements. After the first week of classes, students will get a ticket for parking without a PBSC decal. Unpaid parking tickets result in a record hold and grades will not be transferred to the high school or post-secondary institutions until the parking fine is paid. STEP 8- RETURNING TEXTBOOKS 1. Return your textbook to the same BOOKSMART location where you purchased it within 5 days after the class has officially ended. If you drop or withdraw from a class, you must return your textbook by the Add/Drop deadline, or you will be charged 75% of the total cost of the textbook. 2. Bring your PBGHS ID Card to BOOKSMART so they can quickly identify you in their computer system. 3. Let the appropriate personnel at BOOKSMART know you are a high school dual enrollment student when you present the textbook. 4. You will be given a receipt, not money, from the cashier. Bring this receipt to a secretary in the PBGHS guidance office the following school day so that you are cleared of your obligation. NOT RETURNING YOUR TEXTBOOK TO BOOKSMART WITHIN 5 DAYS OF THE END OF YOUR CLASS MAY RESULT IN BEING CHARGED FOR THE TEXTBOOK AND POSSIBLE REGISTRATION AND BOOK RESTRICTIONS FOR THE NEXT TERM.
