2 How to Use NAVIANCE Registration for New Users: Go to Click Sign In in upper right hand corner. Click Students and Families. Enter postal code. Click Blind Brook High School. Select the I need to register link located on the right hand side. Enter your registration code. Click Register. Enter your address and a password (something you will remember). Remember to write down your password and to keep it in a safe place. If you misplace your code, contact the guidance office. Click Complete Registration. Please note, you only need to set up your Naviance account once as a new user. Parents with more than one child in high school can ask to link the accounts. Sign in Using Your Name and Password after the Initial Registration Enter your address and password. If you are on your personal computer you can click the box remember me to make it easy to sign in at a later date. Save this page to your browser favorites as you will be using the NAVIANCE site often. Click on Log In. Read the Welcome Page The welcome page often has information about college visits to Blind Brook. There are links that run down the left hand side that include SAT and ACT information, financial aid information and NCAA Clearinghouse information. There are four tabs that run across the top of the page: Colleges, Careers, About Me, and Planner.

3 Directions to Begin Naviance College Search Conduct Your Own Detailed College Search and Begin the Selection Process Click on Colleges tab. Then, under College Research, click on College Search. Complete the preferences survey (beginning with Two year vs. Four year and Public vs. Private, etc.). When you have completed the survey, use the Show Matches function to view the entire list. As you enter more preferences you will see the number of matches at the top of the page decrease to a more selective list. From this you can click the Pick button to create your Hand-picked List. Then click Add to Student List to add these selections to the college interest list ( Colleges I m Thinking About ). Research a Specific College Go to Colleges and College Lookup, which is located under College Research. Type in the name of the college. Click Go. If there is more than one college with the same name, you will be asked to pick from a list. Click on the school of your choice. You will get a page of basic information or you can use the hyperlink to visit the college website. If you find a school of interest click the next to the college name and it will be added to the Colleges I m Thinking About list. Using the Scattergram Graph The scattergram feature allows you to predict what your admission decision might be based on your GPA and SAT/ACT information. You can access a scattergram for a particular college from your Colleges I m Thinking About list (see below). The guidance office enters standardized test scores as we receive the official score reports from College Board and ACT. (Students and parents will NOT have the opportunity to update this information.) Go to Colleges and then to Colleges I m Thinking About, which is located under My Colleges. Click on the name of one of your colleges in your running list. You will get a page of basic information for that particular college as well as hyperlinks Overview, Studies, Student Life, Admissions, and Cost. Click on Admissions. The Graph Legend at the bottom of the page details what each symbol represents. The graph will display the outcomes for previous applicants from Blind Brook High School to this college at the point that represents their GPA and SAT/ACT. If no student from Blind Brook has ever applied to the college, no scattergram option will be available. The black dotted vertical line represents the average SAT/ACT score for accepted applicants if the blue circle is to the right of this line, you have a higher SAT/ACT score than the average SAT/ACT score for previous accepted students. The black horizontal dotted line represents the average GPA for accepted applicants if the blue circle is above this line, you have a higher GPA than the average GPA for previous accepted students.

4 Research College Admission Office Visits to Blind Brook High School Go to Colleges and on the right side of the colleges page will be a list of the Upcoming College Visits. You will see the most immediate upcoming college visits and can select to see the entire visit list. Click on a specific college name and you can explore that college. If, during your senior year, you want to sign up for the visit, click Sign Up under Scheduled Visits and Sign Me Up on the college visit information page. You can always decide to click on Remove Me from List if you change your mind. If you are planning to apply to a school, it is important to show your interest by attending the information session given by the college representative for the school.

5 Directions to Begin Naviance Career Search 1. Log into Naviance using your address and password 2. Once you get to the Naviance/Family Connection Homepage, click on the Careers tab near the top left of the page. 3. Under the heading What Are My Interests click on the link for Career Interest Profiler located on the right side of the box. (This is a career interest survey about your interest in different types of work activities. Use your results to explore suggested occupations; examine the education, training, and skills required and where to obtain them, as well as wages typical for these occupations to get an idea of the future career you may be interested in.) 4. Read the instructions. 5. When you are ready to begin, click on the box marked Start Profiler. Answer each question honestly. There are no right or wrong answers. Don t worry if it seems like most of your responses are dislike or unsure. Just let the computer analyze your preferences. Be sure to click on the box marked Save and Continue at the bottom of each page. There is a total of 180 questions. You do not have to answer all of them in one sitting. You may stop using the Career Interest Profiler at any point after saving a page of answers. The next time you access the Career Interest Profiler, it will take you to the point at which you left off. You may also go back to previous pages by clicking on the box marked Previous at the bottom of the page. It will appear starting with the second page. Please note that if you click on this option, the answers on the current page will not be saved. 6. At the end of the survey, click on the box marked Complete Profiler. Once you have done this all of your answers will be saved. 7. On the next screen, you have the option to review your previous answers by clicking on the box marked Previous. Once you are satisfied with your answers you can see your results by clicking on the box marked View Results. 8. Read what your answers reveal about your career interests. Then, click on the box marked View Matching Occupations List in order to see a list of careers that may be of interest to you. 9. You can click on the link for any occupation on your list in order to obtain more information about it, including skills necessary, tasks performed and salary potential. Research careers by clicking on the various links on your list and going to the career information page. 10. At the top of each career information page is an option to +add to my list. Clicking on the option will add individual careers to your Favorite Careers & Clusters page in Naviance. Complete this activity by adding at least 3 to 5 careers to your list. Once a career is added to your Favorite Careers & Clusters list, you can remove it at any time by going to the Favorite Careers & Clusters page, available as a link on the left side of your current page, and clicking on the remove option next to the career.

6 11. Also located under the Careers and What are My Interests tabs is a tab called Cluster Finder. These assessments provide tools in assisting you with finding your occupational interests and will identify top clusters of careers. The survey will ask you to select from a list of activities, school subjects, and personal qualities. These are tools that will assist you in finding your occupational interests. Begin the survey. 12. Roadtrip Nation Use this tool to create your own roadtrip to your career based upon your interests. Roadtrip Nation sends students on roadtrips to interview leaders who have built their lives and careers around their interests.

7 Colleges Naviance Student/Parent Features in Family Connection Section Features Access Colleges I'm Thinking About Displays a list of colleges student is interested in, along with application deadlines, expected difficulty, and student's level of interest. Students and parents can add colleges to the list on this page. Colleges I'm Applying To Displays a list of colleges student is applying to. Includes the Common Application FERPA release. Let s students share progress of application and application status. Displays list of teacher recommenders and the status of the recommendation letter. College Visits Displays a list of the upcoming college visits that have been scheduled. If a student has signed-in, they can click on a visit to indicate that they will be attending. College Match Use one or more of three criteria (historical application data, universal overlaps, or Active Match) from your school to match students with colleges within a certain range of that student. Students can adjust the risk level to get safety and reach schools. College Compare Compare a list of colleges using the average test scores and GPA for students that were accepted in the past from your high school. If a student has signed-in, it will automatically overlay the student's scores and GPA against the averages for each college and provide a color-coded comparison. College Lookup College Search Look up colleges by name, by alphabet, by state or by country. An advanced college search that gives students the option to search based on multiple factors weighted by importance by the student. Searches can be saved and brought up again. SuperMatch TM College Search A new college search that utilizes a "fuzzy" approach to ranking the students preferences. It provides not only a list of schools that match the students needs perfectly, but the student will also see the ones that come close. Searches cannot be saved at this time. College Resources Displays a list of other web-based resources related to colleges and financial aid.

8 College Maps Select a map from the list of all colleges with application data for your school. Displays maps of colleges from common lists like Ivy League or Common Application. Scattergrams Select a scattergram from the list of all colleges with application data for your high school. If a student has signed-in, it will automatically overlay the student's score and GPA onto the graph. Enrichment Programs Displays a list of enrichment programs that can be filtered for topic and ordered by name, location, deadline, or Most Recent. Scholarship Match Displays a list of scholarships student may be qualified for based on data entered about the student. Student can add scholarship to personal list. Scholarship List Displays a list of scholarships available. List can be filtered and sorted. Scholarship Applications List of scholarships students have applied for. Student can add applications. National Scholarship Search Gives access to the Sallie Mae national scholarship search. Careers Section Features Access Search/Explore Careers & Clusters Students can search by keyword for careers or open an advanced search page. Displays an advanced search section to find careers based on categories or Holland codes. Lists career clusters that students can explore to find careers of interest in the cluster. Favorite Careers & Clusters Shows a list of careers and career clusters the student has indicated interest in. Shows the Holland Codes for the career/cluster. Career Interest Profiler Aimed at older students. Assesses career interest using the Holland Interest codes. Gives some career planning resources
