Project Title: New Strategies for Cooperative and Multi-Band Spectrum Sensing Thesis supervisors: Prof. Rohit Sinha, Prof. Ratnajit Bhattacharjee Institute: Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati Abstract: Cognitive radio technology offers the possibility of increasing the utilization of the radio spectrum using secondary spectrum access. The dissertation presents new strategies for cooperative and multi-band spectrum sensing for improving secondary spectrum access. The first strategy proposes the utilization of the knowledge of the primary user interference for optimizing the fusion rule at the fusion center in a centralized cooperative spectrum sensing (CSS) scheme. The resulting fusion rule is shown to improve the performance of CSS compared to the case when the information regarding the primary user interference is not utilized for optimization. The second strategy supports a network structure for joint decentralized CSS and secondary spectrum access. This model sports a mobile spectrum sensor which is capable of transmitting quantized test statistics for possible soft fusion. The proposed model can address the issue of contention among secondary transmitters. The third strategy proposes the use of sparse representation classification for detecting frequency hopping spread spectrum primary users. The proposed sensing technique involves learning channel dictionaries using K-SVD algorithm, in offline mode, using simulated templates
3 of pure primary user signals from corresponding channels. During spectrum sensing, these learned dictionaries are used to recover sparse coefficients from the received signals. Depending on the position and strength of the recovered sparse coefficients, the channel occupancy state of the wide band of interest is determined. 2) B.Tech final year project Project Title: Grasps Type Recognition based on EMG Signal Processing Guide: Dr. N.
