3 Foreword Northern Ireland enjoys a rich visual arts scene of international standing. It is testament to the quality of the art work produced here that the Belfast Open Studios has become a fixture of the flagship Belfast International Arts Festival. Belfast Open Studios provides an excellent opportunity to focus attention on this vibrant area of the creative arts. It provides a showcase for artists, encouraging curators to visit and creating new opportunities for development, exchanges, collaborations, practical support, exhibitions and wider exposure. The ambition of Visual Artists Ireland, through the Belfast Open Studios initiative, is to open up the arts, not only to national and international interest, but to the public at home. A dedicated programme of education and outreach activities will make the visual arts more accessible to everyone, with the public open day on 21st October offering a special opportunity to engage with the arts and gain behind-the-scenes access to artists in their studios. This will be, for many, an eye-opening insight into the tremendous creative activity that is going on all around us, all of the time. Roisin McDonough Chief Executive Arts Council of Northern Ireland Main Events Visual Artists Café Sat 14th October, 1pm 3pm The Black Box, Belfast A space that encourages making new connections, meeting people and sharing networks. There will be representatives from studios, arts organisations and galleries from all over Northern Ireland. Belfast Open Studios Sat 21st October, 11am 5pm Venues across Belfast (see map at centre pages) An open invitation to the public to come and see how artists work, take a glimpse into the creative processes and meet over 250 artists working across the city.

28 Suki Tea At Suki Tea, community projects - both local and global, through our tea network - are very close to our hearts and we always endeavour to support causes that we believe align with our company s values. Supporting the Northern Ireland arts community is one such cause that Suki Tea is hugely passionate about. We believe that artists form the foundation of the community s creative environment. They act as creators and individual entrepreneurs who provide many of the products and designs that drive innovation. Many artists also work as educators, providing training in creative skills and passing on cultural traditions from one generation to the next. It is this drive for creativity, innovation and education that is so synonymous with Suki Tea s ethos. With such a lack of private or public sector support programmes available to assist local artists, the opportunity to support Visual Artists Ireland was something we jumped at so that our local artists can continue to develop their careers, market their products and share their ideas with others. Oscar Woolley, owner of Suki Tea said: We are big supporters of art and the positive impact it can have on the individual, our communities and the world at large. Like many artists we use our specialist knowledge and take our time to ensure we produce the best products we can, we are as passionate about art as we are about creating the perfect cup of tea. Art matters, and art - just like a cuppa - can make life that little bit better. There are a number of ways in which Suki Tea is supporting the local arts scene. Since 2014 we have been involved in a number of initiatives with Visual Artists Ireland. We provide our signature tea, Belfast Brew to all studios on the circuit so that members of the public will receive a warm welcome on arrival and will feel at ease as they take a relaxed and informative stroll around the various studios. Many of the public may not be used to visiting an artist s studio so providing a cup of tea makes this much more accessible. We also sponsor Visual Artists Ireland s Art Prize and have also been involved in creating a number of initiatives for our staff to support VAI and engage with local artists. All of these are with the aim of giving back to the arts community of Northern Ireland. For more information on our involvement with Visual Artists Ireland and a host of other CSR initiatives that Suki Tea supports, visit suki-tea.com/blog
