2 The Norwegian Centre for International Cooperation in Higher Education (SIU) Organised as a public agency and competence centre under the auspices of the Norwegian Ministry of Education and Research own Board of Directors Service agency and a partner for institutions of higher education Promotes internationalisation, cultural communication and international mobility 2

Profiling Norwegian Higher Education and Research abroad III. Information and communication I. Contribute to the overarching information initiatives established by the authorities II. Particular responsibility for information activities concerning internationalisation in higher education and educational mobility IV. Competence building on internationalisation for the Higher Education Sector V. Counselling, studies and service functions for Norwegian authorities 3

5 NUFU Programme Goal to support the development of sustainable capacity and competence for research and research-based higher education in developing countries relevant to national development and poverty reduction, and to contribute to enhanced academic collaboration in the South and between South and North 5

6 NOMA Programme Goal to provide financial support to develop and run Master Degree Programmes in cooperation between higher education institutions in the South and corresponding institutions in Norway. The aim of all educational activities within the programme is to educate staff in public and private sector, as well as NGOs, in the South 6

7 Norad Programme in Arts and Cultural Education Goal to contribute to the strengthening of cultural education institutions and to the professionalisation of artists and art forms in selected countries in the South nningsprogram 7

12 The University of Malawi, 2006 So far the NUFU programme can be proud of having trained three PhD s and nine Masters in our University. Another twenty one students (of which nine are Malawians) have carried out research in Malawi. The contribution, to data base in the Medical, Agricultural and Environmental fields have been enormous. Malawians, who have been trained through other financing systems such as Norad fellowship and Quota programs build capacity in various fields in this country just like their comrades under NUFU. 12
