7 Course Request Instructions Please read them carefully Step 1: INSTRUCTIONS FOR COURSE REQUESTS Step 1: Complete the Course Request Form/CRF 1. On your CRF form select 15 classes for the school year. Discuss your options with your parents and obtain teacher input as needed. Resources such as the course catalog, PUSD graduation requirements and UC/CSU a-g college entrance requirements can be found at under Counseling. 2. Choose courses for each academic area in addition to PE, off roll and electives. Place an X in the course checkbox and indicate the number of classes in the Class Total box. When all courses are chosen, the total number of classes must equal 15. This includes all electives and off roll. 3. If taking any honors or AP courses, obtain teacher initials on CRF. 4. Please select courses carefully. Remember you are choosing courses for your entire school year. We create the number of sections for each course based on your requests. Future change requests may not be possible.

18 Additional Course Offerings F - Visual/Performing Arts UC/CSU admission requirement: must complete 1 and 2 of same fine art. Does not need to be taken in same school year Trimester schedule provides extra opportunities to expand your areas of interest Make sure to select alternate electives.

19 Additional Course Offerings G Electives UC/CSU admission requirement: Can be filled by going one year beyond minimum requirement in a-g areas, or by selecting a course which only meets UC/CSU elective, such as AP Psychology or Marketing Economics.

20 New course options New Course Offerings Art Exploration - introduces students to the principles of design and to the various materials used in contemporary art. Introduction to Teaching and Learning -introduces the philosophical, social, and the historical roots of education in America, as well as exploring current issues and challenges. Child Development/Psychology 1 - study of the developmental stages of children from conception through early adolescence. Film Studies - a foundation of knowledge and understanding of film, and an appreciation for film its history, composition, structure, and relationship to literature. (The course # on the CRF will come up as Visual Communication. Upon district approval of the course, they will assign a course # to the class. We will then move students into Film Studies.) AP Human Geography - introduces students to the basic concepts of human geography and provides a geographic framework for the analysis of current world problems through the use of case studies. AP courses are yearlong/3-trimesters Check the course catalog on website for descriptions

22 Additional Course Offerings Electives Additional Courses to select from as part of your 15 School Service Positions: Students are allowed to take one school service position per trimester: i.e. ASB, Academic Tutor, Library Assistant, Work Experience Library Assistant: max of 2 tri/10 credits, th grade Academic Tutor: max of 2 tri/10 credits, th, 3.0 or higher GPA preferred Permission forms for LA/AT available from Mrs. Pelio Physical Education After completion of ENS 1-2-3, Marching PE/ENS 1-2, or Tall Flags PE/ENS 1-2 you will need two additional PE classes (10 PE credits) th you can continue to take PE classes beyond required amount & up to 20 additional PE credits will go toward elective credits for graduation (up to total of 40 credits). So take extra PE! It is great for your mind and body! Selections titled Advanced are intended for student athletes participating on that DNHS.

23 Off Roll for Seniors Seniors may take up to two off roll periods in a single trimester (only once in the school year) if they meet all five criteria and turn in a required parent permission form for double off roll: Must complete 11 classes in senior year. A PUSD Virtual Course cannot count as one of the 11 courses. Be on track to graduate Cannot drop an AP seminar class Athletes Caution: If you take 3 classes in a trimester and earn an F or I (Incomplete) in one class at the 6-week progress, or end of trimester grading period, you will be automatically ineligible/not able to play your sport! Interested in participating in intercollegiate athletics (DI and DII) in college? Be sure to complete 16 required courses by end of senior year for NCAA eligibility. Counselors strongly recommend you continue with academic rigor for college readiness: Take English, Social Science, Math and Lab Science in your senior year!! Expand on your areas of interest by exploring additional electives!!
