2 CENTRE FOR PLANT BIOTECHNOLOGY (HSCST, Deptt. of Science & Technology, Govt. of Haryana) Establishment The Centre was established in the year 2000 as Centre for Research and Applications in Plant Tissue Culture (CRAPTC) with funding from Department of Biotechnology (GOI) and subsequently taken over by HSCS & T (DST, Govt. of Haryana) in It was renamed as CPB in 2007 to widen the scope of its activities

3 CENTRE FOR PLANT BIOTECHNOLOGY (HSCST, Deptt. of Science & Technology, Govt. of Haryana) Objectives Mass propagation of planting material of newly developed crop varieties and rare medicinal, horticultural and ornamental plant species. Need based research to support the production activities. Genetic diversity analysis and clonal fidelity testing of in vitro raised plants using molecular markers. To impart information and training on Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) issues, especially patents, in Haryana and neighboring region. Research on secondary metabolites in plants. To impart training to scientists, students, entrepreneurs, corporates and farmers. To popularize application of tissue culture technology in the state.

10 Objectives of PIC To create awareness about Intellectual Property Rights (IPRs), especially patents, in the sate of Haryana and neighbouring region of this centre and enable patent searches for the universities, industry, government departments and R & D institutions in the state and around. To analyze the patent information on a regular basis and suggest new programmes for R & D based on such information. To guide the inventors in respect of patenting their inventions.
