4 Data Delays 3-8 Assessment data is embargoed until the Commissioner of Education releases them. This year 3-8 ELA and Math scores were embargoed until mid-august. We still have not received the ISR s which go to parents. 3-8 ELA and Math comparisons with other Districts became available late August. 4 th & 8 th grade Science is currently embargoed.

5 Regents scores for individual students and the District are released to the District quickly, but we will not be able to compare data with other Districts until District Report Cards are released. Graduation Rates are available, but will not be formally released until June of the following year. For example Graduation Rates were released June 2011.

6 Grades 3-8 New York State Assessments English Language Arts-ELA Math Science-Grades 4 and 8 only

7 Changes in the 3-8 ELA and Math Assessment NYS Assessments for 5 th and 8 th grade Social Studies were discontinued. Timeline for administration was changed. Proficiency standard scores were raised. New cutpoints. Additional questions were added to all 3-8 assessments in both ELA and Math (added days and time for administration). Students at each grade level must write at least one full essay on the ELA. Assessments will continue to be modified to address common core standards.

8 What we do to Ensure Success and Increase Student Achievement Data Driven Instruction (BARS, Data Mentor, Item Analysis, NYStart etc.) Differentiated Instruction Formalized Academic Intervention Services (AIS) and Response To Intervention (RTI) Supplemental programs to address increased student achievement. Practice tests familiarize students with test formats. Assess Staffing AIMSWeb

9 ELA and Math Performance Levels Level 1: Below Standard Sudent performance does not demonstrate an understanding of the ELA/Math knowledge and skills expected at this grade level. Level 2: Meets Basic Standard Student performance demonstrates a partial understanding of the ELA/Math knowledge and skills expected at this grade level. Level 3: Meets Proficiency Standard Student performance demonstrates an understanding of the ELA/Math knowledge and skills expected at this grade level. Level 4: Exceeds Proficiency Standard Student performance demonstrates a thorough understanding of the ELA/Math knowledge and skills expected at this grade level.

17 Regents Examination Changes 2011 All class rosters were attached to Teacher ID s. New Scanning procedures for five Regents Exams All Regents Exams will be scanned. Limited Regents Examinations in August. At the end of last school year, all January 2012 Regents Exams were eliminated. In late August SED reinstated January 2012 Regents Exams when they received private donations to fund the exams. New format for the English Examination. No Foreign Language Regents beginning 2012.

21 Increasing Student Achievement Goals for Focus on increasing all students to mastery-level performance. Ensure that all instructional staff are aware of District, grade level, classroom and individual student data and results. Use data to inform instruction. Familiarize instructional staff with changes to NYSED assessment formats, content and standards. Department and grade level meetings to review item analysis of all assessments. Continued focus on Differentiated Instruction. Use RTI and benchmarking results (from local assessments and AIMSWeb) to provide ongoing assessment of student performance. Early identification of student strengths and weaknesses. Focus on effective AIS and RTI services. Provide appropriate intervention strategies to target areas for development.
