4 All programs mentioned in the power point (Technical HS, Computer Science HS, Collegiate HS, Public Services HS) can be married. Grades 9-14 can work at CCHS. Is vision presented today off base? No, it s a start. All pieces are good, consider adding Art. Programs proposed are very technical in nature; Don t forget about the arts curriculum; Many low-level students shine in unified arts or performing arts programs. Extra curricular activities are important. Data supports alignment to reducing dropout rate. School currently has music, art, and sports. Magnet Program CCHS has been denied regularly (from ). 5 At some point, 95% of students living in Creek community did not attend CCHS. A millennium school with skills for real jobs that target average students would be beneficial. Survey children about programs in which they want to enroll. Center programs around student interests. Kids are the best resource, create student group for input. Conduct exit interview with those leaving school to learn why they are leaving. Survey middle school kids that should be on the way to CCHS in the near future. 6 Transportation is an issue for students who want to participate in extra curricular activities. In recent years, there was a significant loss of quality human resources on staff. Continuity and consistency are important. Many programs have changed at CCHS over time. It is important to use effective marketing strategies for CCHS in order to bring excitement from incoming students and from the community at large? What will happen to students that do not choose one of the programs mentioned above? Is BCPS committed, financially, to making these programs happen? Funding has caused school to lose security staff, custodians. The information contained in this document was presented at Student Success Opportunity Schools on January 6
7 Re-construction of school would be helpful and make school more attractive. Consider a systematic approach from a bottom up re-design model (attracting lower level students) instead of a top-down design model (attracting higher level students). Are we looking to save a school or students in a community? What is the exact goal of this repurposing initiative? Keep in mind many students currently do not have resources, problem-solving skills, language skills, and financial resources. We need to make sure that magnet opportunities are not missed.
