7 Middle School Students Taking High School Courses If a middle school student is taking a high school course, they will take the End of Course Assessment for the specific subject Example: Grade 8 Student Taking Algebra I Student will take Algebra I EOC and Grade 8 Reading, Grade 8 Science, and Grade 8 Social Studies 7

8 Graduation Requirements Current legislation requires the phase-out of high school TAKS and replaces it with 12 EOC assessments in English I, English II, English III Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II Biology, Chemistry, Physics World Geography, World History, U.S. History

9 Graduation Requirements Freshman class of is first group to have EOC assessments as a graduation requirement These are our current 9 th grade students!

10 Graduation Requirements Plan for phase-out HS TAKS and phase-in EOC Assessments *Out-of-school testers and 12 th grade re-testers

11 Graduation Requirements All 12 EOC assessments will be available in The state will determine the standard that marks proficiency in spring 2012 so that student performance can be reported after the spring 2012 administration

12 Graduation Requirements Each EOC assessment will constitute 15% of the student s course grade EOC scores in each content area will be added together Students will have to pass specific EOC assessments (Algebra II and English III for the Recommended High School Program)

13 Graduation Requirements A school district shall provide accelerated instruction to each student who fails to perform satisfactorily on an EOC assessment

14 Administration of EOC Assessments Students will have 4 hours to complete each assessment, but they are designed to take about two hours Assessments are not grade specific, students take the assessment when they complete the course, regardless of enrolled grade

15 Administration of EOC Assessments EOC assessments may not be administered earlier than the first full week in May The law provides an exception for English I, English II, and English III which may be administered earlier in the spring

16 Administration of EOC Assessments In the future, TEA is planning multiple administrations of EOC assessments for students who complete the course at different times of the year retest opportunities Planning for administrations in spring summer fall

17 End-Of-Course- (EOC) The End-of-Course assessment, which are designed to help students meet collegereadiness standards, are course-specific and more rigorous than the TAKS.
