1 3. MVADA State Vocational Football Championship Format There will be two divisions throughout the state: Large Vocational School and Small Vocational School. These divisions will be determined based on the boys enrollment. The current figures used by all fall sports will be used. Changes in alignments must occur during the annual Tournament Directors meeting prior to the beginning of the school year. (The current 2013 alignments are listed below.) Entry Process: Use the following steps to determine how your school will qualify for the State Vocational Football Championship. You must use the steps in the order listed to qualify. In both the Large & Small School Divisions your Thanksgiving Day Game can count as one of your declared Vocational Games for qualifying. Large School Division Step 1 All Large vocational schools must submit all vocational games both large and small. This must represent a minimum of 5 games. If you do not meet this criterion proceed to the next step. Thus in some cases schools will be submitting 5, 6 or 7 games under this method. Step 2 If you school has less than 5 vocational games, then you must declare your entire league and all non-league vocational schools (both large and small school) as your qualifying criteria. Step 3 - Greater New Bedford Rule - They do not play enough vocational schools due to league commitments therefore they must name five games but include any vocational teams (both small & large) they do play. Their schedules must be submitted prior to the first game of the season. (Using this step a maximum of 5 games can be selected for entrance into the Football Championship.) Large Vocational School Qualification Process With the instituting of the new MIAA Football Playoff system the qualification process for teams to participate in the State Vocational Large School Football Championship we will be based on the team average as a result of the Power Rating System for both the regular season (declared games and declared opponents) and the post season for games played after week 7 thru week 11. The Power Rating System is as follows: Large Vocational School Power Rating System 10 POINTS 10 points for defeating a team in either the Small or Large Vocational School Division 10 points for defeating a non-vocational team 2 POINTS 2 points would be earned for each of your opponent s wins (a team that you have defeated) 1 POINT 1 point would be earned for each of your opponent s wins (a team that has defeated your team) Small Vocational School Division Step 1 If your school has 5 or more small school division vocational opponents, then you must submit all small school division vocational games as your qualifying criteria. If you do not meet this criterion proceed to the next step. Step 2 (optional step) If your school has 5 or more vocational games (representing large and/or small vocational school divisions), then you may choose to declare all your vocational games as your qualifying criteria. If you do not choose this criterion proceed to the next step. Step 3 If your school has less than 5 small school division vocational games, they must submit all small vocational opponents and a selection of additional opponents to meet the minimum requirement of games. (Using this step a maximum of 5 games can be selected for entrance into the Football Championship.)

2 Small Vocational School Qualification Process With the instituting of the new MIAA Football Playoff system the qualification process for teams to participate in the State Vocational Small School Football Championship we will be based on the team average as a result of the Power Rating System for both the regular season (declared games and declared opponents) and the post season for games played after week 7 thru week 11. The Power Rating System is as follows: Small Vocational School Power Rating System 10 POINTS 10 points for defeating a team within your Small Vocational School Division 10 points for defeating a non-vocational team 12 POINTS 12 points for defeating a team within in the Large School Vocational Division 2 POINTS 2 points would be earned for each of your opponent s wins (a team that you have defeated) 1 POINT 1 point would be earned for each of your opponent s wins (a team that has defeated your team) Entry Dates: Deadline for the Football Commitment Form will be prior to the first game in September. Teams that do not comply with the entry form deadlines, communication requirements and photograph & roster regulations will not be allowed to compete. Selection Process: The schools will be ranked according to the Power Rating Average. The top winning percentage in each division will represent that division. *If a team qualifies for the MIAA Superbowl Championship (State Championship Week 12) they must compete there and are ineligible to participate in the vocational championship. *If there is a tie by percentage we will use the MVADA Tie Breaker: 1. Head-to-Head 2. Coin Toss The two teams with the highest Power Rating Average in each division that have not qualified to participate in the MIAA Superbowl Championship (State Championship Week 12) will play for the Vocational Football Championship. Teams will be responsible to update their game results on a weekly basis. Any team not keeping up with the process will be reminded that they must comply in order to compete. Continued resistance to enter data will be reason for withdrawal of tournament.
