Part 2: Shared Inquiry Courses approved for each of the six areas are listed below and are grouped by Santiago Canyon College subject. Verification of equivalency can be done via Web Advisor s Search for Transfer Courses by Institution. Credit used in the major or under the major s primary discipline cannot be used for this requirement. Some clusters are not open to all majors. Large Ensemble: All music majors are required to participate in at least one large ensemble each semester while in full-time residence. Approved ensemble courses offered at Santiago Canyon College: MUS 135, 136, 137 GE Natural Science Inquiry: Music Education majors are required to complete PHYS 203 Acoustics of Music or an approved course in transfer. All other majors may satisfy the requirement by completing one of the approved Natural Science Inquiry courses listed in Section I. GE Language Study: The language study requirement is restricted to French, German or Italian. For music therapy majors or guitar performance majors, Spanish is acceptable. Voice and keyboard collaborative arts majors should have proficiency in French, German, or Italian, and knowledge of pronunciation of all three. For the vocal emphasis in the bachelor of music in performance, six semester hours must be selected from one or a combination of those languages, in addition to the language study component of the Chapman General Education requirements. This requirement cannot be waived. Two search options allow you to review transferability for current courses from Santiago Canyon College or view a list of all the approved equivalent courses for a specific Chapman course. WebAdvisor: Log on as a guest and select one of the two search options for Orange Campus Direct equivalencies are used for transfer courses that are equivalent to Chapman University courses and carry all of the same approvals for GE and major as the Chapman course. Other transfer equivalency codes are assigned to courses that do not equate to any Chapman course but may still be eligible for transfer and application towards degree requirements. If a course is determined non-transferable it is assigned the equivalency of TRAN-0TR Please note that some departments do not display equivalent courses because final transfer approval is pending audition, proficiency, or demonstrated knowledge for individual students prior to departmental approval of credit. [back to top] SECTION IV: Transfer Related Policies and Information General Transfer Policy 1. Only credit from regionally accredited institutions is evaluated for transferability. 2. Credit is given for baccalaureate courses in which a minimum grade of C- has been earned. CSU transferability does not guarantee transfer to Chapman. 3. Preparatory level, technical, vocational, professional, work experience and co-op credits are not accepted even if accepted as baccalaureate degree applicable at the home institution. 4. No internship credit is accepted in transfer unless by articulation agreement. 5. Independent study credit in transfer is not accepted. Submission of materials detailing the content studied may be submitted for credit consideration. A minimum grade of C- is required for all transfer credit. Courses not meeting the minimum

14 Page 14 of 15 grade are calculated into the overall GPA. 2. A maximum of 70 semester credits of community college credit will be applied toward the bachelor s degree. Students may meet course requirements with credits beyond the 70 but the credits will not apply towards overall credits earned towards the degree. Credit is counted in GPA. 3. Chapman students may complete transfer credit concurrently but cannot exceed the course load policy as stated in the catalog. 4. A maximum of 32 credits may be earned through credit by exam 5. A maximum of 4 credits in physical activity courses and 12 credits in applied dramatic art and music ensembles will be counted towards the baccalaureate degree. 6. All attempted transferable credit leading up to the completion of the degree must be reported and are calculated into the overall GPA. 7. Students may complete GE requirements with Pass (P) grade. See department information in the Chapman Catalog regarding grading options for courses in the major. 8. Repeats: If a course is taken and repeated in transfer the higher grade and credit applies. If a course is taken in transfer and repeated at Chapman or vice versa both grades are calculated into GPA. Credit for only one course is applied to record. 9. Incompletes: Grades in progress or incomplete at the time of transfer are noted on the transfer record and should be resolved as early as possible. Credit by Exam Advanced Placement Credit is awarded for approved AP exams that meet the minimum score requirements. Students must submit an official AP score report to Chapman University for credit consideration. International Baccalaureate Credit is awarded for approved IB exams that meet the minimum score and diploma requirements. Students must submit an official IB score report or diploma transcript to Chapman University for credit consideration. Graduation Requirements A minimum of 124 credits in addition to any necessary preparatory skill credits. 42 credits earned in upper-division coursework. A minimum of 38 credits completed in residence at Chapman; 21 of which must be upper division, with 15 of those 21 credits in the student's major (military students contact the Office of the Registrar). 2.0 grade point average on a 4.0 scale at Chapman and a 2.0 GPA for all work leading to the degree, including transfer work. 2.0 GPA for all major course work and all upper-division major coursework. Resolution of all NR and I grades. Students completing a Bachelor of Arts degree must have a minimum of 62 credits outside of the discipline of the major. [back to top] SECTION V: Admission Information for Transfer Students As a transfer student, you are considered for admission on the basis of coursework and grade point average at other accredited post-secondary institutions. When planning coursework for transfer, you should concentrate on UC/CSU transferable courses that build on your high school record, satisfy general education and competency requirements and include preparation for the major.

15 Page 15 of 15 Close attention is paid to college-level writing courses in the admission review process, as well as to minimum math preparation and foreign language proficiency. Trends in grades and patterns of college attendance are considered. Our most successful transfer applicants have earned a cumulative grade point average of 2.75 or higher. Candidates must be in good standing and must be eligible to continue in the institution they are currently attending. Some majors, particularly those in the Dodge College, Athletic Training and Business Administration may require stronger records than the minimum 2.75 cumulative average generally required for admission consideration. Likewise, certain majors require that some prerequisite courses be completed prior to transferring. Our review process is selective and personal.
