4 HHS Credit Information Please be aware that you cannot use one class to fulfill more than one requirement (i.e. Physics for both science and senior math). Students who successfully participate in the program may earn college credit at more than 3000 colleges and universities. Typically, students take AP courses in 11th and 12th grade. ARTICULATION WHAT IS IT?: Articulation is a process of earning college credit for skills and/or knowledge mastered at the high school level. Students can articulate credit from many of Hudsonville High School Business courses and Careerline Tech Center programs. WHERE CAN I GET CREDIT?: Currently HHS has articulation agreements with Davenport and Baker College. Careerline Tech Center has agreements with Davenport, Baker, Ferris and Grand Rapids Community College. HOW CAN I GET THE CREDIT?: In most cases you have to notify your teacher and fill out the appropriate forms to submit to the college in your senior year. Students are required to earn a B or better to receive credit.

5 REGISTRATION INSTRUCTIONS for FOR CURRENT HUDSONVILLE STUDENTS 1. The portal to register for classes is open from Feb 20 through March This piece of the registration process is only for selecting your classes. You are not creating a schedule or deciding which trimester you will have certain classes. 3. To register for classes: Log into Powerschool, as if you are checking your grades. Click on Class Registration at the top. Choose a total of 7.5 credits. Credits will be listed after each course, so you must add them up as you go. You may end up leaving some spots blank. You must choose 4 alternates. If you do not choose enough credits or alternates, your selections cannot be submitted. You will receive an error message telling you what you did wrong, and your course selections will not be saved. In essence you will have to start over. If you have submitted correctly, you should see a list of all the courses you selected. You may change your course requests any time during the registration window of Feb 20-March 12. The registration page will time out if you have not submitted your choices within 1 hour. All your selections will be lost. 4. Please remember to double check your graduation requirements to be sure you are taking the appropriate classes. 5. The Course Offering Guide has information on how many trimesters a class is, what grade levels can take each class, and prerequisites. 6. Required courses for incoming 9th graders are: Earth Science A & B English 1 A & B World History A & B Algebra 1A and 1B CHOOSE YOUR CLASSES CAREFULLY! Once registration closes, it will be very difficult to change your selections. IMPORTANT REMINDERS: 1. Choir and Orchestra: Please select the generic Choir or Orchestra one time. (each is worth 1.5 credits). Correct placements will be made later. 2. Band: Band students need to register for 3 trimesters of band. For first trimester you must select one of the following options: Concert Band F (fall) or Marching Band. For trimesters 2 and 3, select Band W/S one time (worth 1 credit). Placements in each level will be done later. 3. PEAK Performance: This class should not be taken during the trimester you are involved in a sport (i.e. If you are playing football, then do not sign up for PEAK Performance F - fall). 4. Each trimester class (section) you take is equal to.5 credits. For example, Earth Science A is equal to.5 credits and Earth Science B is equal to.5 credits. Once you ve completed both of them, you will have earned 1 full credit of Earth Science. 5. We operate on a trimester schedule with 5 class periods each day. Therefore, you will need to select the equivalent of 15 class periods or a total of 7.5 credits. 6. Classes that are Trimester specific are noted as such: F = fall (1st Trimester), W = winter (2nd Trimester) and S = spring (3rd Trimester).

6 REGISTRATION INSTRUCTIONS for FOR STUDENTS NEW TO HUDSONVILLE We begin working on the master schedule once course requests are received. In order to have the best chance of receiving the classes you are requesting, it is important to return your Course Selection Worksheet as soon as possible to the Freshman Campus. We cannot enter your class request until you are enrolled as an incoming Hudsonville student, so you will also need to complete and turn in registration papers. ALL registration forms must be completed and turned in before we can submit your course requests. This piece of the registration process is only for selecting your classes. You are not creating a schedule or deciding which trimester you will have certain classes. TO SELECT COURSES: Complete the Course Selection Worksheet Course requirements for 9th graders can be found in the Course Offering Guide (on pg. 6) or on the audit provided at orientation. Once you ve completed your registration papers and your Course Selection Worksheet, turn them in to the Freshman Campus Office. THINGS TO CONSIDER: It may be wise to map things out using the provided Four Year Plan. Make sure the alternates you select are classes you are actually interested in taking. Band, Choir, and Orchestra are three trimester courses. This will fill up three spaces you have available for electives. Your fall choice for Band is either Marching or Concert Band. You must choose one of these. Band W/S is the selection for the remaining two trimesters. PEAK Performance should not be taken during the trimester you are involved in a sport (i.e. If you are playing football, then do not sign up for PEAK Performance F). If you took the first year in 8th grade, sign up for Spanish, German, or Mand. Chinese II A & B. If you haven t started your World Language requirement, sign up for Spanish I A & B. Sign up for PE/Health A & B to finish your PE/Health requirement. If you are planning on waiving the PE requirement, sign up for Health. Consider working toward completing your Visual Performing Arts requirement (two-trimesters). All the options are designated with a + in the Course Offering Guide and are also listed in this handbook. Are there any careers or skills that interest you? Pick some classes that would relate to those careers or skills. For example, are you interested in Engineering? Then sign up for Basic Drafting A & B. In science, math, and English, you could start working on your sophomore requirements. In science, you could take Biology A. For English, you could sign up for English 2 Lit or 2 Comp. For math, you could sign up for Geometry A.
