2 Graduation Requirements - 22 Credits Subject Area # of Credits Required Specific Courses Required ENGLISH 4 Eng I-IV; or AP Eng; or CCP Eng MATH 4 Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II SCIENCE 3 Physical Science, Biology SOCIAL STUDIES 3 World History, American History, American Government PHYSICAL EDUCATION 0.5 (Or P.E. Waiver = athletics/band participation - two seasons ) HEALTH 0.5 (Typically taken in 8th grade) FINE ART 1 (Career Tech completers are exempt) ELECTIVES 6 (Can include Career Tech)

8 Career Tech Options Advancement of Nursing Animation and Graphic Design Automotive Technology Commercial Photography Construction Trades Cosmetology Emergency/Fire Science Engineering Health Technologies High School of Business Horticulture Information Support & Services Job Training & Coordination Light & Sound Technology Music Production Teacher Pathway Theater Arts Video Productions Students must apply and be in good academic standing.these are two year programs to be completed during Junior/Senior year.

9 Advanced Curriculum Options: Honors: Increased rigor. Good preparation for AP or CCP courses. Grades weighted.5 higher than regular level courses. Teacher recommendation. Advanced Placement (AP Application Required due March 1st): Nationally approved curriculum. High Rigor. Increased workload (summer work). Grades weighted 1.0 higher than regular level courses. AP Exams; earn college credit by earning a qualifying score. Preferred by highly selective universities. International Baccalaureate 11th & 12th (IB Application Required due March 1st): High level of rigor. Grades weighted 1.0 higher than regular level courses. IB Diploma Programme option. IB Exams are required.

10 Advanced Curriculum Options: College Credit Plus (CCP Intent Form Required due March 1st ): Student takes college courses and earn college credit and high school credit simultaneously. The cost is covered by the Plain Local School District. Students must complete a CCP registration packet and return it to your Academy Office no later than March 1st to enroll in College Credit Plus coursework for the academic year.

11 College Credit Plus: If you are a student in grades 7-12 you can apply for College Credit Plus admission to a public or participating private college. You must meet minimum eligibility requirements to participate. You may not participate in the College Credit Plus program beyond your anticipated high school graduation date. You may not enroll in remedial or religious courses through CCP.

12 College Credit Plus: Credit Students earn high school and college credit simultaneously. Conversions-(3 sem hrs=1 hs credit, 2 sem hrs=.66 hs credit, 1 sem hr=.33 hs credit) Cost No cost to student for tuition or books. Transportation is students responsibility. Financial responsibility falls on student/parent for course failure, or drop past the college s penalty-free deadline. Acceptance Student must complete the regular college application process, and meet minimum eligibility requirements.

13 College Credit Plus: Semester Hours Limits Maximum of 30 per year, minus Carnegie Units taken at the high school. 120 semester hours total. College Credit hour/carnegie unit formula.

14 College Credit Hour/Carnegie Unit Formula Example Line # 1 Maximum # of college credit hours allowed per CCP 2 Number of Carnegie Units (HS Credits) enrolled in for the year. 3 Conversion of Carnegie Units to College Credit hours (multiply line #2 times 3) 4 Remaining # of college credit hours eligible for College Credit Plus (line #1 minus line #3) *Students/parents will be billed for any CCP semester hours over the allotted amount.*

15 College Credit Plus: Pros: Transferability of credits. Challenging coursework. Weighted grades. (if equivalent AP courses are offered in the same subject area) Can earn high school and college credit.

16 College Credit Plus: Cons: Could have a negative effect on GPA. Permanent academic record that follows you. Financial responsibility for course failure, or drop past the college s penalty-free deadline. Travel time (if enrolled on the college campus) Scheduling conflicts Could have an impact on financial aid in the future. (188 attempted credit hours).

19 Academic Advising Plan Things to consider when choosing classes: Am I taking what I need to meet minimum graduation requirements? Am I being appropriately challenged by the courses I am choosing? What are my goals, and do my courses align with those goals? College Admission Diploma with Honors Career Path/College Major Will the course load I choose allow me to maintain a healthy balance between my academics and other obligations.

20 Scheduling Next Steps: January 22nd Parent/Student Scheduling Meeting January 23rd HAC Opens to enter Course Requests February 15th Career Technology Deadline February 17th All course Requests entered in HAC March 1st Deadline to apply for IB, AP & CCP courses taught at GlenOak. April 1st for CCP enrollment at the University.

21 Scheduling Change Policy-IMPORTANT Students have until the last day of the prior school year to request a change of mind schedule change. Please complete the online form for all requests made by the last day of the prior school year. After the last day of school, only the following changes will be allowed during the first eight (8) days of each semester (semester classes only): Upgrading the schedule adding a class in place of a study hall. Dropping a class because the student has no study hall. Level Change teacher recommendation only. i.e. AP U.S. History to US History
