13 Advanced Placement Classes AP classes are roughly equivalent to college courses. After completing an AP class, students take the AP exam in that subject, which can earn them credits and accelerated placement in college.
14 AP Capstone is an innovative program that equips students with the independent research, collaborative teamwork, and communication skills that are increasingly valued by colleges. AP Seminar: AP Seminar provides sustained practice of investigating issues from multiple perspectives and cultivates student writing abilities so they can craft, communicate, and defend evidence-based arguments. AP Research: Students will develop the skills and discipline necessary to conduct independent research to produce and defend a scholarly academic thesis. AP Capstone Diploma AP Seminar, AP Research and 4 additional AP courses. Must receive a score of 3 or better on each AP Exam. AP Seminar and Research Certificate AP Seminar and AP Research with a score of 3 or better on both AP Exams.

16 Mead Energy Academy Mead Energy Academy will prepare students for college studies, technical education, certification programs and the workforce. Studies include the following industries: Coal, Conservation, Geothermal, Hydro-Electric, Nuclear, Oil & Gas, Solar and Wind. Principles of Energy Science Energy Industry Practices GIS Energy Systems and Technology AP Environmental Science Energy Academy Senior Capstone Students interested in pursuing the Mead Energy Academy (MEA) Certificate should complete the MEA application. 18 NCAA Athletic Eligibility Do you want to play sports in college? Make sure you are taking enough NCAA approved core classes throughout high school Register with the NCAA during your sophomore or junior year at Notify your counselor about your intent to play sports in college during Registration.
19 Mead High School Registration Process 1. Registration: Students will review the Course Description Book (Mead HS Website), their transcript and all registration materials. Students will completely fill out all registration forms. 2. Complete all components of your ICAP Naviance SVVSD 11 th Grade ICAP Survey Naviance Do What You Are (career assessment) Naviance Add at least 1 college to Colleges I m Thinking About 3. Online Registration (Infinite Campus): Students will login to their Infinite Campus account and enter their course requests for the classes listed on their registration form, as well as their backup choices. 4. Registration Interview with Counselor: Students will meet with their counselor to discuss and finalize their course requests. Counselors will review and verify that all ICAP components have been completed on Naviance. Counselors will verify all course requests have been entered in Infinite Campus correctly. All registration forms need to be completed and submitted to your counselor at this time. (Feb 5, 8 and 14 during US Government classes)

24 Repeating Failed Classes Repeating failed core classes at Mead HS is no longer an option for the following classes: English 9, 10, 11, 12 Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2, Intermediate Algebra World Geo/History, US History, US Government Biology and Chemistry Students will still have the option to repeat Health and World Language classes.

26 AP Classes and Math Placement Advanced Placement Classes There is NO application or recommendations needed to take AP classes at Mead HS. Some AP classes have prerequisites. Talk to your counselor and teachers to learn more about specific AP classes and whether your ready for this challenge. AP Chemistry, AP Biology and AP Calculus BC are 1.5 credits, which will take up three spots on your registration form. College bound students are STRONGLY encouraged to take AP classes. Math Recommendations Your math teacher has made a math recommendation for you in Infinite Campus. You cannot remove this request from IC. If you disagree with your math recommendation, meet with your math teacher to discuss this with them. If a recommended math class needs to be changed, then your counselor will make the change to your course requests in IC.
27 Concurrent Enrollment EARN COLLEGE CREDIT / FREE TUITION Students can take up to two pre-approved college classes each semester of their junior and senior year through Front Range Community College or Aims Community College. SVVSD will pay the tuition for these classes if you earn a C or better, but you ll be expected to pay for your books & fees. If you earn a D or F, then you must repay the tuition to SVVSD You may add the college classes offered at Mead HS to your registration form and Infinite Campus, but will have to complete additional paperwork in March. Students may also take classes at the Longmont campus of Front Range CC or online through Aims CC.

33 Classes with an audition or application Auditions Band, Choir and Orchestra Enter the course or courses you want to take next year. After auditions, teachers will provide counselors with a list of students who ve qualified for these specific classes Musical Theatre Auditions will be on February 20 & 22 in the auditorium (3:30-5:30pm) Applications Student Council Current Student Council members = No application New to Student Council = Complete application Application deadline: February 9 th to Mrs. Chastain Yearbook and Self Defense Application deadline: February 23, 2018 Enter the course or courses you want to take next year. After applications have been reviewed, teachers will provide counselors with a list of students who ve qualified for these specific classes
34 Time Release Period Complete a Time Release Form Juniors and Seniors can have a maximum of two Time Releases each semester. Must be enrolled in at least 3 core classes each semester Must complete a Time Release Form (parent signature) Must be on track for graduation Administration can deny Time Releases based on attendance and/or disciplinary history. Time Releases are randomly scheduled by Infinite Campus, so you cannot pick which blocks you will have a Time Release. List Time Releases on your registration form and enter the course # for each Time Release in Infinite Campus. One Time Release each semester enter: MS191F (fall) and MS191S (spring) Two Time Releases each semester enter: MS191F, MS191S, MS192F, and MS192S

38 Registration Tips Review your transcript and discuss with your counselor a plan to recover credit for failed courses. All PE classes can only be requested once per school year. Example - You cannot request Net & Target twice Don t register for Teacher Aide or Work Study at this time. These classes can be added in August. Math recommendations have already been entered in Infinite Campus by your math teachers.

49 Counselor Interview Session Every student will meet with their counselor to discuss their course requests and finalize their registration. Your Course Selection Form must be completely filled out. All course requests must have been entered into Infinite Campus prior to your Counselor Interview Session. All components of your ICAP must be complete prior to your Counselor Interview Session. Students must bring ALL completed registration forms to the Counselor Interview Session. Counselor Interview Sessions for juniors will occur on February 5 th, 8 th and 14 th during U.S. Government classes.
50 Counselor Interview Session Dates Remember the date below! You will need to have completed your online registration by this date. Make sure to bring all of your completed and signed registration forms for your Counselor Interview Session.
51 Counselor Interview Session Instructions Students will be sent to the counseling office (6 at a time 2 per counselor) to meet with their counselor, turn in their registration forms, verify their ICAP is complete and finalize their registration requests. Once a student returns to class with their pass, they will then give the pass to the next student until all students have met with their counselor. The following materials MUST be brought to your Counselor Interview Session with your counselor: 12 th Grade Course Selection Form & Academic Planner Worksheet Signed by student and parent Elementary Tutor Application Time Release Form Student Council Application (new members only) Yearbook Application Self Defense Application
