July 2017 Newsletter This month s Values Education will be based around Generosity. Sports Day Friday 14 th July All families and friends are invited to join us for sports day. The format will continue to be traditional, which parents have said they like. The event will take place on the back field. Please bring your own chair! There will not be any school chairs available. Reception & Year 1-9.00am to 10.15am Years 2 & 3 10.45am to 12.15pm Years 4, 5 & 6 1.45pm to finish before the end of the school day. Children, remember your sun hat, water bottle and sun cream! Summer Fair We send a huge thank you to everyone who helped with organising our summertime fair, or who attended the event, helping to make it such a great success. We raised 2024.06 for much needed school funds. These funds will be used to purchase new mobile computers, as our existing technology all approaches the time when it needs replacing! Thank you to you all. A special big thank you to the parents, staff and supporters of our school, who organised the event - you did an amazing job. Thank you. Raffle Tickets The winner of the 100 first prize was Max Halford in Year 1. Well done Max. Whole School Picnic We are arranging a whole school picnic in conjunction with Aspens, our kitchen service provider. The picnic will be held on the school field on Tuesday 18 th July. If the weather lets us down, we will still have a picnic, but an indoor one! Pupils are invited to bring a special packed lunch or buy a packed lunch from Aspens. Younger children may bring their teddy bear if they like. Please look out for the Aspens flyer, if you wish to purchase a packed lunch. KS1 children will be provided with a packed lunch if parents request one. Please return the flyer to school as soon as possible.

Years 3 and 4 Choir Event Viva Musica A big well done goes to all of the years 3 and 4 pupils who participated in the concert at Dudley Town hall on May 20 th. The show was fabulous, enjoyed by everyone who went to see it. The Viva Musica Choir have sent the school a donation of 250, for having the pleasure of singing with our children! We also thank the 3 teachers who gave so much time to this project. Autumn Term Dates School closes for the summer break at the end of the day on Friday July 21st. School will reopen for pupils on Wednesday September 6th. The new Reception classes have a slightly later start date; all parents should know their Reception child's start date, if you are unsure, please ask at the school office. Meet The Dates Our annual Meet the event for each year group will be hosted at 9.00am on the following dates: Year 6 - Friday 8 th September; Year 5 - Monday 11 th September; Year 4 Tuesday 12 th September; Year 3 Wednesday 13 th September; Year 2 Thursday 14 th September; Year 1 Friday 15 th September. Wolverley Arts Fest Everyone is invited to attend the Arts Festival at Wolverley Secondary School, on Thursday 6 th July from 6pm 8.30pm. There are a variety of things to see and participate in. Apple Desktop Computers For Sale We are setting about renewing and replenishing the technology available to our pupils, and as part of this process the AppleMac desktop computers are for sale. This equipment is still in very good condition and each computer is being sold for 350. The money recouped will be used to buy more mobile technology, which better suits how IT is taught. If you are interested in reading more about these computers, please ask at the office for further details. If you are still interested in purchasing one of these machines, after reading the information, Mr. Hemus will be happy to show you one. Staffing News Mr Asplen Mr Asplen will be leaving St. Catherine s at the end of July, he is retiring from education. We thank Mr. Asplen for his many years of outstanding service to our school. Mr. Asplen has worked at St. Catherine s since January 2009. We thank Mr. Asplen for his contribution to our school and wish him well for the future. Mr Berry Mr Berry, the school s caretaker, will be leaving St. Catherine s at the end of July; has gained a promotion and is going to work at Stourport High School. Mr. Berry has been at St. Catherine s for 3 years. We thank Mr. Berry for his work at the school and wish him well as he takes his next career move. Teaching Assistants Some of our teaching assistants will also be leaving at the end of term. Mrs Claire Baylie, Mrs Jess McGowan and Mrs Claire Addison will all be leaving the school. We thank these ladies for the cover they have provided; their service has been invaluable and highly regarded. Our grateful thanks go to all 3 of these ladies. Mr Kilbride s New Baby Mr. and Mrs. Kilbride s baby son arrived on Tuesday 20 th June. Everyone is well and we look forward to seeing Mr. Kilbride back at school on July 4 th. We send our love and congratulations to the family.

Year 6 Leavers' Play We are pleased to remind you of the date for this year's leavers' play; on Monday 17 th July, Year 6 are going to be presenting Shakespeare Rocks for parents, family and friends. Tickets are not needed. We look forward to seeing you all at 6pm. Year 6 Enterprise Project Year 6 s are busy working on various Enterprise Projects. During the afternoon of Tuesday 18 th July you will be able to come along and purchase some of these wonderful creations. Spanish We have access to a fantastic language website called Linguascope which pupils can access both at home and at school. If you or your children are feeling keen to practise your Spanish skills, you can enter the site on your computer at home http://www.linguascope.com with the following details: Linguascope username STCATKIDD Password Yellowfish As well as Spanish, Linguascope also offers Italian, French and German. If you would like to also develop those languages with your children, they can also be accessed using the login details above. St. Catherine s Childcare There are a limited number of places at our childcare scheme. If you require wrap-around care, before and after school (from 8am 6pm), please come and see Karen Baylie in the nursery. School Reports and 2017-18 Classes Final reports, for this school year, will be issued on Friday 14 th July. Parents have now been notified about new classes for next year. Pupils will visit their new teachers on Wednesday 19 th July. All teachers who are new to the school will be here on that day, so that everyone gets to meet their new teacher. Sun Safe As we approach the warmer months (we hope!) can we please remind parents that all children should really be provided with a sun hat. Sun cream is allowed in school, but needs to have your child s name written clearly on the tube, your child must be able to apply it by him/herself. School staff are not allowed to apply sun cream. On really warm days, we advise parents to apply sun cream before the school day starts. Please note we now sell school caps, please call in to the school office if you would like to purchase one. St Barnabas Church News Greetings from Rev Bridget and all at St Barnabas. Forthcoming Events: Sunday 2 nd July at 9:30am All Age Service this has the theme Fishers of Men and everyone is cordially invited. Saturday 8 th July we are holding a Strawberry Tea & Craft Fayre in the Community Hall. Come along and have a wonderful strawberry tea for 4.00 a head, and browse the Craft Stalls. Saturday 19 th Aug 10:30am until 12 we have a coffee morning in the community hall, with delicious homemade cakes.

At St Barnabas we are always pleased to welcome everyone to our services which are normally at 9.30am each Sunday, information on special services will appear on the church noticeboard as and when they are organised. The Church is open every day from 9 till 5pm. If you wish to book a Baptism or a Wedding, please attend the parish office at St Mary s on Thursday evenings between 6-30pm and 7:15 pm when someone will be there to deal with your request, alternatively for further information please contact me on 01562 631616. Milk If you would like to arrange for your child to have milk next term, please complete the form that is being sent out with this newsletter, and return it before Monday 17 th July 2017, with the correct amount of money, in a named and labelled envelope. The price of milk is 20 pence per day, per carton, for the Autumn Term 2017. The Autumn Term, 6 th September 19 th December, excluding half term, is 70 days, the total is therefore 14.35. Pupils under the age of five are entitled to receive free milk in school; if your child is in reception and would like to continue receiving milk after his/her 5 th birthday please contact the school office.
