THE DEPARTMENT The Physical Education and Games Department of the Prep School is thriving and has a fine record of success. We are looking to appoint two Graduate Sports Assistants to work with our Head of Boys Games and Head of Girls Games in developing sport across the Preparatory School. BANCROFT S SCHOOL Bancroft s Preparatory School The Preparatory School is responsible for the education and welfare of children aged 7-11 and was established in 1990 in a new architect designed building. There is considerable demand for places with a selective entry at 7+. The class size is 22 and there are three parallel classes in each of the four year groups. There is an expectation that teachers will involve themselves in extra-curricular activities, which are an important aspect of school life and take place at lunchtimes and after school. Staff also help with duties and are expected to be available for parents evenings, some evening functions and occasional Saturday morning events. There are also sports fixtures on a number of Saturdays. Bancroft s Prep is a stimulating environment in which to work with an enthusiastic, cheerful and committed staff. We look forward to receiving applications from similarly dedicated teachers who enjoy being with bright, wellmotivated children. 5 Candidate brief Graduate Sports Assistant ( Prep)
Senior School Bancroft s is an independent co-educational day school with 840 pupils aged between 11 and 18. The Head is a member of HMC. The separate Preparatory School for 264 boys and girls aged 7 to 11 is on the same site. The school is situated on the edges of North East London and Epping Forest, with easy access to both country and city. The school moved to its present site from central London at the end of the nineteenth century; the buildings are spacious and picturesque, and regular additions have been made over the last hundred years. A new Sports Hall opened in 2007 and more recently extensions have been made to the Preparatory School, school library and Science department. In 2011 a new Art department was opened, which contained a significant expansion for the Sixth Form area. In addition to the Sports Hall and on-site playing field, we have our own sports fields a couple of miles away in Woodford. Throughout its history the School has enjoyed the generous support of the Worshipful Company of Drapers, both in the construction of buildings, and in the generous provision of scholarships and bursaries. The introduction of Francis Bancroft Scholarships over a decade ago has enabled a significant number of pupils to attend the school who would otherwise have been unable to pay the fees. The School operates a five day week, but there is a high level of extra-curricular activities, which involves use of the weekends. Music, drama and sport all flourish, and the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme, the CCF and the Sea & Explorer Scouts all enjoy considerable support from boys and girls. All members of the teaching staff are expected to play a full part in some out of school activities, and to be involved in the pastoral care of pupils within the House structure. Bancroft s has a selective five form entry at 11+, with just under half the pupils coming from the Preparatory School. The school uses its own entrance exam, and admits boys and girls in equal proportions. There is a further small entry at 16+, and most pupils stay into the Sixth Form. Public examination results are very strong, and place Bancroft s among the top co-educational schools in the country. In 2012 almost 90% of all grades were A*- B, while at GCSE 88% of the grades were A or A*. Almost all of the Upper Sixth go on to Higher Education, with 14 going to Oxford and Cambridge this year, and a further 13 going to Imperial College and UCL. 6 Candidate brief Graduate Sports Assistant ( Prep)
