May 5, 2011 SATURDAY, MAY 7 CHAMBER RECITAL GCHS Auditorium (begins at 9:00am, awards are at 3:30pm) GRANT COUNTY HIGH SCHOOL Come listen to musicians of the middle school and high school bands perform solos, duets, ensembles and much more in a great day of music-making! Students will be judged by three outstanding adjudicators from outside our district. Awards for Best Overall will be given at the end of the day. This event is free and open to the public (donations will be accepted!) TUESDAY, MAY 10 HS BANDS SPRING CONCERT GCHS Auditorium, 7:00pm This concert will feature the Grant County HS Symphonic Band, Percussion Ensemble and Jazz Ensemble. Come listen to some great (and possibly weird at times) concert band music, some percussion music involving body and trash cans, and some great jazz! This concert is free and open to the public (donations will be accepted!) HELP SUPPORT GCHS Speech & Drama Team by eating at Skyline Chili, Dry Ridge ~ May 18th 6-8 p.m. Skyline Chili will be hosting a night for the Speech and Drama team on May 18, between the hours of 6 and 8 pm. Come out and show your support for GCHS Speech and Drama team. All proceeds will go to help team members travel to the National Speech and Drama competitions. Classes fill quickly, it is recommended to register early to avoid waitlists! Northern Kentucky University Community Connections is offering two ACT Preparation courses. Please pass this information along to your students. Also feel free to publish to your school s website or print the attached flyers and hang around your school. The details for these courses can be found below or you can view event flyers attached. ACT Preparation - Mastering the Math If mathematics is your biggest challenge going into the ACT, take advantage of this intensive class devoted spe cifically to the types of problems typically appearing on the exam. The class is recommended for repeat test-takers seeking an improved score and first-time test-takers needing a refresher course. Students taking this course will be asked complete a pre test to be turned in the first day of class. Students will receive this pre test in the mail at time of registration. Text book included in registration fee. She is the newly elected parent representative on the SBDM council for a two year term beginning July 2011. We welcome Ms. Smith to the council and are looking forward to working with her. DANCE TEAM & DANCE CREW TRYOUTS! Girls' Dance Team and Guys' Dance Crew tryouts will be held May 16, 17, & 18 from 3:30-6:00. You must have a physical on file to try out. Page 5 IN THE NEWS! FROM THE DESK OF MRS. C. HERALD, PRINCIPAL! Grant County High School has officially set graduation. Graduation for the Class of 2011 will be held on May 27 th. The ceremony will begin at 7:00 pm on the Grant County High School football field. In case of inclement weather, commencement will be held in Grant County High School Gymnasium. Admission to lower level of gym will be by ticket only. Tickets for this will be issued to seniors during graduation practice. The number of tickets issued will be determined by size of graduating class. Those seniors who have ordered announcements will be receiving them within the next few weeks. HELP SUPPORT GRANT COUNTY SPECIAL OLYMPICS by eating at Skyline Chili, Dry Ridge ~ May 16th 6-8 p.m. Grant County Special Olympics will be hosting a fundraiser at Skyline Chili in Dry Ridge on Monday, May 16th from 6-8pm. Skyline will donate 10% of their ticket sales to our organization. We will be having a Silent Auction and many other activities! Come out and support our athletes!
