MALWA CENTRAL COLLEGE OF EDUCATION FOR WOMEN Civil Lines, Ludhiana Internal Quality Assurance Cell Annual Activity Report 2010-11 OPENING REMARKS: The college is one of the prestigious institution working for the Education of women teachers affiliated to Panjab University. The college has team of teachers well qualified, and dedicated contributing in the preparation of women teachers according to the requirements of world of work. IQAC of the college aims to maintain and improve the internal quality of the college. NOMINATIONS AND RECOGNITIONS: Dr. Sukhdev Singh Sandhu nominated as a member of Selection Committee, P.U. Kabaddi Team (Women) performed his duty at G.H.G.H. Khalsa College, SidhwanKhurd (Ludhiana) on 29th and 30th September, 2010. ACADEMIC ACTIVITIES: a) ADMISSIONS: The college provides instruction in Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) and Master of Education (M.Ed.) courses of Panjab University, Chandigarh. The admission to the B.Ed. course for session 2010-11 was done by Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar, 1 st counselling from 11/8/2010 to 13/8/2010, 2 nd counselling from 21/8/2010 to 23/8/2010, 3 rd counselling from 30/8/2010 to 31/8/2010, and 4 th counselling at college level on 7/9/2010. The admission to M.Ed. course is done on the basis of entrance test conducted by Panjab University, Chandigarh. Dr. AvninderPreet Singh and Dr. Gurmit Singh performed the duty in the admission of M.Ed. at Panjab University, Chandigarh on 5/10/2010, 6/10/2010, 8/10/2010, and 9/10/2010.

70% of the total number of seats of B.Ed. in this college is offered to girls who are always at a disadvantage academically, having been educated in rural areas. The Government of Punjab has already issued a notification to this effect. b) INAUGURATION OF SESSION: New session for B.Ed. class started on 16/08/2010. The students and teachers sought blessings of almighty in Gurudwara of the college campus at 9.00 am. Principal Dr. RavinderKaur welcomed the students and introduced the staff members to them. MohuaKhosla oriented the students with general rules and regulations of the college. Dr. Satwant Kaur and Dr. Naginder Kaur allotted roll numbers to the students on 18/9/2010. c) STUDENT ORIENTATION PROGRAMME: Orientation of B.Ed. students with the B.Ed. programme was done from 18 August 2010 to 19 August 2010. d) TEACHING LEARNING PROCESS: Demonstration lessons were delivered by the teachers to the B.Ed. students from 07/10/2010 to 14/10/2010. Discussion lesions were conducted on 2/12/2010, 4/12/2010, and 6/12/2010. HOUSE EXAMS: First House Examinations for B.Ed. and M.Ed. were conducted from 10/12/2010 to 5/01/2011. Second House Examinations for B.Ed. and M.Ed. were conducted from 17/03/2011 to 31/3/2011. TOUR AND TRIPS: A one-day trip was organized for B.Ed. and M.Ed. students on 8th December, 2010to Science City, Kapurthala, Devi TalabMandir and Wonderland. SURVEYS AND PROJECTS:

At least one teacher incharge was assigned to each school. Regular observation was done.

Second Teaching Practice was of B.Ed. students was organized from 1/04/2010 to 20/04/2010. EXAMINATION: First terminal examination of B.Ed. and M.Ed. were held from 10/12/2010 to 05/01/2011. Second terminal examination of B.Ed. and M.Ed. were held from 17/03/2011 to 31/03/2011. Final Examination of B.Ed. and M.Ed. were held from 23/4/2011 to 17/5/2011. Final Skill in Teaching Examination of B.Ed. was held from 25/5/2011 to 27/2/2011. Viva-voce of the M.Ed. students (2009-2010 session was held on 24/07/2010 RESULTS: 244 B.Ed. students appeared for the Annual examination of Panjab University, Chandigarh. 230 students got first division, 99 students got above 70% marks. SandeepKaur bagged first position in the college by securing 868 marks. In the annual M.Ed. examination of Panjab University, Chandigarh, 25 students appeared. All got first division. 21 students secured above 70% marks. Harpreet topped the list. STUDENTS CENTRAL ASSOCIATION: Class representatives from different sections were elected on 30/09/2010. Meeting of Students-CentreAssociation with members of staff and Principal was held on 09/09/2010. LIBRARY AND BOOK BANK: At present the library has 22,740 books and around 215 new titles were added to the stock this year. We subscribe to 73 journals of educational and general interest. 4 students availed of the facility of the Book Bank during the current year. We received 50 gifted titles from Central Institute of Indian Languages, Mysore, 109 from Kendriya Hindi Nirdeshalaya, New Delhi and 9 from Publication Bureau, P.U. Chandigarh ACTIVITIES AND FUNCTIONS ORGANIZED DURING 2010-11 A Sadbhawana and Peace Rally was organized by B.Ed. students in collaborationwith the students of Khalsa College for Women, Ludhiana and Khalsa Girls Senior Secondary School, Ludhiana on 20th August, 2010 on the occasion of birthday of former Prime Minister of India, Late Sh. Rajiv Gandhi. Teacher s Day was celebrated by the teachers and students of the college on4th September, 2010. AIDS Awareness Day was celebrated on 4th September, 2010 under the aegis of Red Ribbon Club. To mark the celebration, a poster making competition, a lecture and a rally to GhumarMandi were organized to make the public aware about AIDS and its prevention. Hindi Divas was celebrated on 14th September, 2010. Poetry Recitation, Hindi Pronunciation and Signature Competitions were organized. Hindi Diwas was also celebrated in S.D. Government College, Ludhiana by Punjab Hindi Parishhd (Reg.) Ludhianaon 14th September, 2010. Students of Malwa Central College of Education for Women presented HasiKaviSammelan Talent Hunt Competition was organized on 17th and 18th September, 2010. 185 students participated in various items. World Peace Day was celebrated in 21st September, 2010.

Fresher s Day was organized on 24th September, 2010. Lakshmi Ms Fresher, Shubra Malhotra- 1 st runner up, Lovemeet- 2 nd runner up, Mridula- Ms Beautiful smile, Shaveta- Ms Elegance smile, Rashpinder- Best talent. Inter College Debate Competition was organized by Nehru SidhantKender Trust on 27/10/2010 at Khalsa College for Women, Ludhiana. Students of Malwa Central College of Education for Women participated in it. Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji savtaarpurab was celebrated with great zeal and fervour on 11th January, 2011. An Intra-College On-the-spot preparation of Teaching-Aid competition was held on 21st January, 2011. National Voter Day was celebrated in the college on 21st January, 2011 to sensitize students about casting their vote. Declamation, Essay Writing and slogan writing competitions were organized. Annual convocation of the college was held in the college on 4/3/2011. Women s Day was celebrated on 8/3/2011. Annual Prize distribution function was held on 19/5/2011. EDUCATION IN MORAL VALUES: Shabad recitation in the morning assembly is a special feature of our daily programme. A special Divinity Assembly is held on every Monday. EXTENSION LECTURES, WORKSHOPS AND SEMINARS: Classroom teaching is supplemented by Extension lectures and workshops organized in the field of education and other relevant disciplines. Eminent scholars and specialists are invited to address the students and the staff on different topics. - An extension Lecture on the topic, International Issues and Challenges in Teacher Education was organized on 25th August, 2010. The expert was Dr. Roberta Altman from Bank Street College of Education, New York (U.S.A.). On 26th August, 2010, she conducted an interactive session with staff regarding research work. - An extension lecture on General Care for Eye was held on 16th February, 2011.

- An extension lecture by Dr.MihirMallik, Professor, Lovely Professional University, Phagwara was organized on 16th February, 2011. The topic was, Role of Parents and Professionals in the Education of Children with Special Needs. - A National level U.G.C. sponsored two-day seminar-cum-workshop on the topic Journey towards Self-Culture was organized in the college on 26th and 27th November, 2010. Following subthemes were covered (a) Knowledge Society- A key to better India. (b) Environment Conservation- The axis for development. (c) Economic Turmoil- Way out towards improvement (d) Media Culture- Its role in self-empowerment Dr. Pam Rajput was the chief guest. Dr. Anita Rastogi, Dr. AnandSagar, and Dr. Kuldeep Singh Jaidka were the resource person. - A seminar on Higher Education for Children with Special Needs was held on 17th February, 2011. Seminar was sponsored by University Grants Commission, New Delhi and Development of Life Long Learning, Panjab University, Chandigarh. - Following seminars were organized for B.Ed. students: i. Value Education Need of the hour 15th September, 2010 ii. Mental Health 4th October, 2010 iii. How to avoid communication 17th January, 2011 breakdown in the classroom? iv. Concept, need and development of 1st February, 2011 Leadership qualities in students V. Guidance programme for Gifted and 12th February, 2011 Backward Children Following seminars were organized for M.Ed. students: i. Value Education Need of the Day 7th December, 2010 ii. Recent Trends in Psychology and 1st February, 2011 Educational Psychology iii. Qualitative Research 12th February, 2011 AWARDS AND APPRECIATIONS: In Zonal Youth and Heritage Festival organized at Guru Gobind Singh Khalsa College of Education, Kamalpura from 19th October to 22nd October, 2010, our students got the following prizes.

In ShabadGayanPrabhjotKaur, DavinderjitKaur, AmandeepKaur, ManinderKaur, AmandeepKaur, SandeepKaur, BaldeepKaur won 3rd prize. In Group Song competition, AmandeepKaur got 3rd individual prize. In Mime GagandeepKaur, AshmeetKaur, GurpreetKaur, Manju, RajniBains and NavneetKaur bagged 2nd prize. In Creative writing Gagandeep bagged Ist and PreetiKatoch bagged 3rd prize. In Debate JyotiKhera won 1st prize. In Elocution RamanjitKaur won 3rd prize. In Folk Dance (Sammi) GurdeepKaur, AmandeepKaur, ManpreetKaur, GurpreetKaur, InderpreetKaur, KirandeepKaur, Pratima, Shivani and Shubra Malhotra bagged 2nd prize. InderpreetKaur got 3rd individual prize in it. In Cartooning JasleenKaur won 1st prize. In Collage-making KamalpreetKaur won 2nd prize. In Clay-modelingRajni got 3rd prize. In Long HeikInderpreetKaur, GurpreetKaur, ManpreetKaur, SukhvirKaur, PawandeepKaur, Palki Grover got 2nd prize. In GiddhaGurpreetKaur, Lakshmi, JaspreetKaur, RamanpreetKaur, BaljeetKaur, Anuradha, Jasgeet Sofia Dhall, RamandeepKaur, GaganpreetKaur, SukhdeepKaur, NavpreetKaur won 2nd prize. In Vaar Singing ManpreetKaur, AmanpreetKaur and RashpinderKaur won 1st prize. RashpinderKaur got 1st individual prize. In Cross stitch ManjitKaur won 2nd prize. In Pakkhi making SarabjitKaur got 3rd prize. In Inter-Zonal Youth and Heritage Festival held from 24th October to 26th October 2010 at Guru Nanak National College, Doraha, GagandeepKaur won 3rd prize in short story writing competition. AmandeepKaur won Bronze Medal in 800 mts. race in Panjab University Annual Athletic Meet held at P.U. Chandigarh from 28th October to 30th October, 2010. Our students participated in a Talent Hunt Competition organized by Sportking Institution of Fashion Technology. NehaThapar bagged 2nd prize and KamaldeepKaur bagged

consolation prize in Junk to Funk competition. Shweta won 2nd prize in Flower Arrangement Competition. In the Zonal Level Skill-in-Teaching and On-the-Spot Preparation of Teaching Aid competitions held on 10th, 14th and 15th February, 2011, a number of students hogged the limelight. In the Skill-in-Teaching Competitions Amandeep, Gaganpreet, Gurleen, Sarbjeet and Lakshmi Devi got 1st prize and Ankita Bhatia, Kamaldeep, JyotiKhera and PreetiDhanjal got 3rd prize. In the On-the-Spot Preparation of Teaching Aids competitions Jasleen, Inderpreet, Jaspreet and Manpreet got 1st prize. VandanaMogla and Shaveta got 3rd prize. Ramanjeet bagged 3rd prize in K.K. Grover Declamation Contest in Punjabi at Panjab University, Chandigarh on 15th February, 2011. PreetiKatoch bagged 3rd prize in A.C. Bali Declamation Contest in Hindi at Panjab University, Chandigarh on 23rd February, 2011. Sarbjeet and Ramanjeet got Ram LalBhasin Trophy in the Inter College Declamation Contest held at S.D.P. College for Women on 22nd February, 2011. In the Inter Zonal Level Skill-in-Teaching and On the Spot Preparation of Teaching Aid competitions held on 23rd and 24th February, 2011, a number of students hogged the limelight. In the Skill-in Teaching Competitions KamaldeepKaur bagged 1st prize in Teaching of Commerce, Gaganpreet bagged 2nd prize in Teaching of English, Sarabjeetgot 3rd prize in Teaching of Political Science and PreetiDhanjal got 3rd prize in Teaching of Science. In the On-the-Spot Preparation of Teaching Aids competitionsjasleen got 2nd in Science and VandanaMogla got 3rd prize in Commerce. STUDENT SUPPORT, SCHOLARSHIPS AND STIPENDS: During the year under report, a sum of Rs.51000 /- was disbursed to 13 students. The College is grateful to S. Daljinder Singh, Manager, for instituting a Gold Medal for the topper of M.Ed. in the respectful memory of his father S.Ramdayal Singh Ji who nurtured this college with a missionary zeal as long as he lived. KhalsaDewan has instituted a sum of Rs.22,5000/- to be given to needy students.

For the last six years, the members of the family of S.Harnam Singh Ji, former Vice- President of the College Managing Committee, have sponsored medals to be awarded to the students bagging first ten positions in the B.Ed. final examination. MALWA INSTITUTE OF COMPUTER EDUCATION Our Computer Centre which was set up with three sets of computers with printers, A.C. and other hardware and software has, at present, 8 pentium III computers. The staff, here, is highly qualified. They continue in their endeavour, to provide qualitative and comprehensive courses of the new era. In keeping with the emerging trends new career enhancement courses like ACCENT, ICON@NET, Spark and Images, Web Designing and Animation have been launched. With a mission TAKE OFF TO TAKE OVER, computer systems were upgraded accordingly, thus, increasing the career opportunities for the students.
