EAGLE NEWS February 10, 2017 NOTES FROM THE PRINCIPAL Construction Updates at WDHS Throughout the past few months, WDHS continues to work on our referendum projects: 1. Interior Doors every interior door way in the halls of our school have been replaced and re keyed with heavier and sturdier doors. 2. Exterior Doors we are currently in the final phases of placing brand new exterior doors around the entire building. 3. Roof As phase 1 on our solar project, the new roof should be placed on our school with a completion date set for February 24, 2017. 4. Sound System for Auditorium this project was completed in January. 5. Elevator this project began in October and date for completion is April 1, 2017. We are exciting with all of the changes and renovations in our school! If there is any way that we can help you support the education of our students, please let us know. Thank you in advance for all that you do to make our school great! Dr. Gismondi IMPORTANT INFORMATION FROM THE GUIDANCE DEPARTMENT: 1. Did you know???? All students ages 15 and up can take college courses while in high school at a 60% reduced tuition rate at RCGC! Take advantage of this low cost option to get a jump start on earning college credits! Schedule an appointment with a RCGC Advisor on site here at WDHS! See guidance for more info on scheduling an appointment today! 2. Sophomores and Juniors are encouraged to log into Collegeboard to view their PSAT scores and link to a free on line personalized tutorial program through Khan Academy. Students who are having trouble logging in or creating a Collegeboard account should schedule an appointment with their counselor.

3. Sophomores will have the opportunity to take advantage of a Guidance Dept. Walk in Wednesday on Feb. 15 th to get assistance with accessing their PSAT scores and understanding what they mean. Students can simply walk in to the Media Center during their Lunch Study Hall no appt. Is necessary! 4. Juniors who are thinking about 4 year colleges and universities should register to take the SAT and/or ACT this spring. Students received handouts with all the test dates, registration deadlines, registration information, etc. back in December during their college planning classes. 5. Seniors are reminded to update their Naviance accounts to let us know where they have been accepted and where they plan to attend, once they make that final decision! Seniors who may still be applying to schools MUST request that their transcript be sent via Naviance! 6. Seniors planning to attend RCGC: Over 100 scholarships are posted on RCGC s website. Apply today! Are you exempt from taking the Placement Test? If not, keep your eye out for a permission slip to attend RCGC for the day on March 9 th to take the placement test, have a tour of the campus, and meet with an advisor. Seats are limited and are available on a first come, first served basis. 7. Need a prom dress, shoes, or accessories? Check out Gateway High School s Fairy Godmother Project on Feb. 23 rd, between 6 and 8 pm, in their cafeteria. Everything is under $25!!!!! MUSIC DEPARTMENT NEWS: The 2017 WDHS theatre cast and crew would like to invite you to attend this year s musical production of Mary Poppins! Shows will be running Thursday, March 23, 2017, through

Saturday, March 25, 2017. This year s production is going to be an extraordinary event with the complete music, costumes, and magic of the Broadway show coming to the WDHS stage. Tickets can be purchased during homeroom or after school in the HS band room. Tickets will also be available for purchase on Tuesday & Thursday evenings from 6:30pm 8:30pm in the HS Main Lobby. Advanced Purchase Tickets are only $10.00 each. Advance tickets are available through Tuesday, March 21, 2017. After March 21st, all tickets will only be available at the door for $15.00 each. Everyone is encouraged to show respect to their peers and spread kindness, compassion, and graciousness throughout the school and West Deptford Community. Keep an eye out during your lunch period for class banners to sign to dedicate yourself to spreading positivity and respect for others!

DECA NEWS: DECA NEEDS YOUR HELP!!! We are currently short over 100 judges for our State Leadership Conference. New Jersey DECA Invitation to Judge at the State Leadership Conference This serves as an invitation to act as a judge at the DECA State Leadership Conference (SLC) at Harrah s Atlantic City. DECA is a co curricular marketing organization that aims to prepare the future leaders of tomorrow through leadership development, community service, and academic competitions. The State Leadership Conference is the second qualifying round of competition in New Jersey for these high school students. It spans several days, however, the actual day that we will need your judging services is February 22. We would ask you to arrive for check in between 8 8:15 AM and you should be finished by approximately 3PM that afternoon. If at that time you are willing to stay and judge the finalist rounds, they will be taking place later that day. CBI NEWS: This week, students in the CBI program delivered the high school's soup donation to the South Jersey Food Bank. This year, over 400lbs of soup was collected, enough to serve 250 families in our area according to the food bank representative. The students were also given a tour of the food bank. RENAISSANCE CLUB NEWS: The Renaissance Club is also selling Chick Fil a sandwiches after school EVERY Wednesday! Sandwiches are $4! All proceeds go to the Renaissance Club whose goal is to build school leadership through academic achievement and school spirit. SAVE THE DATE! The Renaissance Club is hosting their first Car and Truck Show! It will be held on Saturday, May 20, 2017. If you are interested in showing a car or truck, or if you are interested in being a vendor at our Car and Truck Show, please fill out one of the attached forms and send them into the attention of either Mrs. Falcone or Mrs. Pence.
