The school is located in the downtown area of Vacaville within the boundaries of the Vacaville Unified School District (VUSD), a suburban community located midway between Sacramento and San Francisco. The goal of the school is to develop academic and community programs tailored to the unique needs of its specific student population. KPSVA encourages students to have a heart for their community, and works to create various community partnerships to strengthen the local community. Kairos Public School s educational program follows the mission and philosophy outlined in the school s charter: teaching self-directed learners, effective communicators, critical thinkers, and responsible citizens. Instructional practices emphasize active learning strategies, which are consistent with the goals of the core curriculum and the developmental characteristics of all students. KPSVA operates autonomously of its authorizer, the Vacaville Unified School District. KPSVA has its own governance board, the Kairos Public School Vacaville Academy Board of Directors. KPSVA also manages its own budget, hires/releases its own employees, and runs its own payroll, purchasing and billing. However, KPSVA strives for a strong partnership between KPSVA and VUSD. KPSVA Student Profile Open Enrollment Charter schools are schools of choice and have no district boundaries; Kairos Public School Vacaville Academy has an open application process for enrollment. Anyone who wishes to attend the charter school may apply. By law, the charter school must have a lottery process established if there are more students who wish to attend the charter school program than there is capacity. The charter school must also give enrollment preference to in-district students. KPSVA follows a VUSDapproved lottery process. 2015-16 School Accountability Report Card for Kairos Public School Vacaville Academy Page 1 of 9

About the SARC By February 1 of each year, every school in California is required by state law to publish a School Accountability Report Card (SARC). The SARC contains information about the condition and performance of each California public school. Under the Local Control Funding Formula (LCFF) all local educational agencies (LEAs) are required to prepare a Local Control and Accountability Plan (LCAP), which describes how they intend to meet annual school-specific goals for all pupils, with specific activities to address state and local priorities. Additionally, data reported in an LCAP is to be consistent with data reported in the SARC. For more information about SARC requirements, see the California Department of Education (CDE) SARC Web page at http://www.cde.ca.gov/ta/ac/sa/. For more information about the LCFF or LCAP, see the CDE LCFF Web page at http://www.cde.ca.gov/fg/aa/lc/. For additional information about the school, parents/guardians and community members should contact the school principal or the district office. 2015-16 Student Enrollment by Grade Level Grade Level Number of Students Kindergarten 69 Grade 1 50 Grade 2 50 Grade 3 50 Grade 4 52 Grade 5 52 Grade 6 58 Grade 7 56 Grade 8 57 Total Enrollment 494 2015-16 Student Enrollment by Group Group Percent of Total Enrollment Black or African American 2.8 American Indian or Alaska Native 0.6 Asian 2.6 Filipino 4.3 Hispanic or Latino 15.8 Native Hawaiian or Pacific Islander 0 White 59.9 Two or More Races 10.5 Socioeconomically Disadvantaged 8.1 English Learners 0.4 Students with Disabilities 5.3 Foster Youth 0 A. B. Pupil Outcomes State Priority: Pupil Achievement The SARC provides the following information relevant to the State priority: Pupil Achievement (Priority 4): Statewide assessments (i.e., California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress [CAASPP] System, which includes the Smarter Balanced Summative Assessments for students in the general education population and the California Alternate Assessments [CAAs] for English language arts/literacy [ELA] and mathematics given in grades three through eight and grade eleven. The CAAs have replaced the California Alternate Performance Assessment [CAPA] for ELA and mathematics, which were eliminated in 2015. Only eligible students may participate in the administration of the CAAs. CAA items are aligned with alternate achievement standards, which are linked with the Common Core State Standards [CCSS] for students with significant cognitive disabilities); and The percentage of students who have successfully completed courses that satisfy the requirements for entrance to the University of California and the California State University, or career technical education sequences or programs of study Subject 2015-16 CAASPP Results for All Students Percent of Students Meeting or Exceeding the State Standards (grades 3-8 and 11) School District State 14-15 15-16 14-15 15-16 14-15 15-16 ELA 60 63 46 49 44 48 Math 53 55 37 38 34 36 * Percentages are not calculated when the number of students tested is ten or less, either because the number of students in this category is too small for statistical accuracy or to protect student privacy. The achievement level percentages are calculated using only students who received scores. C. Engagement State Priority: Parental Involvement The SARC provides the following information relevant to the Parental Involvement State Priority (Priority 3): Efforts the school district makes to seek parent input in making decisions for the school district and each schoolsite. Opportunities for Parental Involvement (School Year 2016-17) Kairos Public School Vacaville Academy is founded on the belief that active parental involvement in the school is a key component to student success. Because the charter s mission is to provide unique learning experiences to its students, the school needs committed parents who are willing to assist the staff and faculty in making this happen. Consequently, KPSVA parents are encouraged to volunteer at least 30 hours at the school or school-related functions during the school year. 2015-16 School Accountability Report Card for Kairos Public School Vacaville Academy Page 6 of 9

The active volunteering of the parents in the school is one of the strengths of KPSVA. For example, KPAC (Kairos Parent Advisory Council) meets monthly to plan student activities and to fill any student and/or teacher's needs, including supply donations, field trip supervision, or classroom assistance. KPAC raises funds to support individual classroom teachers as well. In the 2015-2016 school year, parents donated more than 13,000 documented hours. Parents support the school s programs through fundraising and donated time and also by regularly assisting the school through participating on various advisory committees. Regular newsletters and the Aeries student information system provide parents access to monitor student progress. Additionally, the parents have developed listservs to inform each other of school activities and parent participation events, such as monthly campus cleanup days and regular parent and class meetings. A number of parents can be found on campus on any given day at Kairos Public School Vacaville Academy, making copies, working in the classroom, directing traffic, monitoring the campus or coordinating and setting up school events. Parents also assist other parents with participation activities by developing guidebooks on ways to contribute hours to the school. The parents at KPSVA feel a great sense of ownership in the school and have played a critical role in the development of the program. All involved in the school believe active participation by the parents of students is an integral element in the growth and health of Kairos Public School Vacaville Academy. State Priority: School Climate The SARC provides the following information relevant to the School Climate State Priority (Priority 6): Pupil suspension rates; Pupil expulsion rates; and Other local measures on the sense of safety. School Safety Plan Kairos Public School's Comprehensive Safety Plan is continuously updated as needed and follows the recommendations as outlined in CA Ed Code Sections 32280-32289, which provide the key elements of the plan. The Comprehensive Safety Plan was last reviewed by the School Safety Committee. The Comprehensive Safety Plan was reviewed by the Kairos Public School Board. Professional Development provided for Teachers Since its inception, Kairos Public School Vacaville Academy (KPSVA) has prided itself on being a community of learners in which everyone takes on the responsibility and accountability for creating and directing curriculum in their own classrooms to best meet student needs. In fact, our program was purposefully created to be a small learning community for students as well as teachers. Teachers have access to collective materials, resources and curriculum. In order to support new teachers, KPSVA has developed a partnership with the Yolo County Office of Education to provide BTSA (Beginning Teacher Support and Assessment) support and induction for new teachers at KPSVA. KPSVA spends approximately 1% of its school budget on professional development (which includes conferences, workshops, release time, mentoring/coaching new teachers, and stipends).
