Class Schedule for Winter 2008 - Begins in January New Jersey Electrical License Updates This three-day course will meet the 24-hour portion of the 34 update hours required for New Jersey Electrical License. Space is limited. Register by December 14, 2007 to ensure a seat for January sessions. A $300 fee is required to attend the threeday/24 hour course. Schedule for the final 10-hour portion to be determined during January classes (Additional $150 fee.) This may be the only update class that can be scheduled at the AC Training Center before updates are due. Saturday DAY: 8 am to 4 pm 24 hours Three days: 1/5/08, 1/12/08 and 1/19/08 Provides students with an introduction to basic electrical circuits, electrical principles, theory and safety. Students will receive an introduction to basic electrical circuits. Topics include the importance of lockout/tagout procedures, fundamentals of residential and commercial circuits, basic wiring techniques, as well as various types of meters and how they work. The course will discuss electrical symbols, prints, schematic wiring, and pictorial and ladder electrical diagrams. This 72-hour course outlines the responsibilities of a Local 68 IUOE member to both the union and the employer. The course objective is to familiarize the students with the work skills they may be called upon to provide at their facility. Electricity (basic wiring), plumbing, heating, air conditioning, and preventive maintenance will be covered. Computer Skills Hands-on computer training using state-of-the-art interactive multimedia learning programs. Students will learn to browse the Internet. Also, the following areas will be covered: Microsoft Windows XP, Microsoft Office Word Processing, Excel Spreadsheets, and Microsoft Outlook. This is a 36-hour course. Electric II This 72-hour course will provide each student with electrical principles, theory and safety. Topics include the importance of lockout/tagout procedures and schematic reading. Students will review PLCs, transformers, variable frequency drives, switch gear, emergency power systems and fire pumps. This course is designed for mechanics presently working in the field or students who have completed the Electric I course. Basic Refrigeration I 72-hour course will provide the student with a thorough understanding of the fundamental refrigeration process, including appropriate environmental concerns. Students will be provided opportunities to perform hands-on work with various refrigeration components. Upon completion, the student will have sufficient knowledge and skill in refrigerant handling to enter the certification workshop to prepare for the Universal EAP Certification Exam. 72-hour course is designed to train students in the proper and safe methods of repairing and maintaining food service equipment. Topics will include components, such as pilot safety, gas and electric thermostats, high-limit controls, spark and hot surface ignitions. Different control strategies will be reviewed, such as manual valves with pilot safety and solid state controls. Class Schedule for Winter 2008 - Begins in January Black Seal Steam Provides students with an understanding of low- and high-pressure boiler basics. Students will review appropriate rules and regulations for boilers and boiler operation in preparation for the New Jersey State Black Seal License Examination. Mandatory sit-time is required for this class. Basic Pesticide Training Course This course will prepare you for the Pesticide Certification Core Exam. A verification of each student s attendance in this Basic Training Course must be submitted in order to apply for the Core Exam. Class Schedule for Spring 2008 - Begins in April 2008 Refrigeration CFC Certification This workshop training program is exclusively for preparation for the EPA Certification examination. The EPA approved ACCA (Air Conditioning Contractors of America) certification is utilized. Workshop format includes advance preparation via your own certification Training Manual, 8 hours of Technical Training followed by the two-hour EPA Certification examination. This one day (8 hr training + 2 hr EPA exam) workshop will prepare you for Universal EPA Certification including the Core, Type I, Type II, and Type III categories. Pump and Alignment Through hands-on exposure, students will learn pump types, review maintenance, disassembly and assembly, and bearing types. Some common pump failures and how they can be avoided will be discussed. Students will work on angular and parallel alignment and learn how to install and remove bearings. Students will identify gaskets and seal types, both packing and mechanical construction. Introduction to Tile Setting Provides the student with an overview of the different types of tile. This course will discuss types of adhesives used for tiling and applications. Students will perform extensive hands-on work, including: measuring, laying out a job, selecting material, cutting tile, setting tile and grouting. Saturday 8 am to 6 pm 4/5/08 One-day Class 18 hours 4/30/08 to 5/15/08 24 hours 4/30/08 to 5/22/08 This 18-hour course is geared for learning and applying the print reading skills needed when installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting electrical systems and equipment. The course will use examples of residential, commercial and industrial prints. Included you ll review print reading fundamentals, electrical symbols, fire alarm, life safety, security alarm, HVAC system prints, industrial control circuits and industrial power circuit prints. 18-hour course will discuss various types of pneumatic controls and how they function together to operate with building systems. Students will learn why preventive maintenance of a pneumatic air system is essential and how to properly calibrate various thermostats, transmitters and receiver controllers.
