School Values Happiness, Learning, Trust, Honesty, Respect, Communication, Teamwork. www.pentlandps.vic.edu.au/ Principals Desk 10/08/2018 Dear Parents, Tomorrow our Hockey Team is playing Coimadai s Hockey Team at Pentland between 2.00pm and 3.00pm. Parents are most welcome to come along and support our team. We would like to remind families that our Planks Evening will be conducted on August 21 st. More details within our newsletter. Recently we circulated details regarding the 100 th Anniversary of the planting of the Bacchus Marsh Avenue of Honour. Wreath laying and other events organised as part of this event will be conducted this weekend, Saturday 11 th of August commencing at 12.00noon. Many thanks to the families who have registered for the wreath laying. Throughout the year our teaching and education support staff team have been involved in extensive professional learning and training. We thank families for their patience and support. In the next few weeks we will commence our planning for the 2019 school year. This includes our school structure and recruitment of staff. If you know of families who have not yet enrolled at Pentland for 2019 please encourage them to do so. Two new replacement blue shade sails have been installed over the junior and senior playgrounds. Gerald has been topping up the soft fall beneath our play equipment. We hope to have completed shortly. Recently we sent home a copy of a Literacy and Numeracy Tips Booklet produced by the Department of Education. We encourage families to find a moment to read through the booklet. Last term we engaged a company to add some additional line markings and games to our playground. The weather has stalled the commencement of these works. We hope this project will be completed in coming weeks. I would like to remind families that the procedures remain in place in relation to late arrival to school, early dismissal of students and Parent Helpers and Visitors. The sign in books are located in the office. All visitors and Parent Helpers must sign in at the office. Students arriving late must sign in at the office and collect a late pass. Parents collecting their children early must sign the early dismissal book in the office. Please find a moment to check the list of important dates. We have a wide range of events planned already for this term. We continue to experience a lot of interest for Prep enrolments for 2019. Families are most welcome to complete the enrolment process now. This will assist with our planning for 2019 and secure a place in Prep for 2019. The schools within the Bacchus Marsh Cluster and within the South Western Region have agreed to a common enrolment date of the 31 st of August 2018. We would like to remind families not to park in the main section of the school carpark. Parents with a disabled sticker are able to park in the disabled bay. Please do not walk your children through the carpark to enter or leave the school. Please do not park in front of the bins. Have a great week. Andrew & Brianna. Principal ~ Mr. Andrew Harrison Ph: 5367 6080

PARENT COMMUNICATION As part of our communication strategy we will be posting reminders and copies of notes on our communication platforms. These platforms are our website, Flexi Buzz and See Saw. For information on how to access FlexiBuzz please see attached flyer. For assistance in connecting to SeeSaw please see your classroom teacher. 2018 Parent Opinion Survey WE WANT OUR PARENTS TO TELL US WHAT THEY THINK! Our school is conducting a survey to find out what parents think of our school. The Parent Opinion Survey is an annual survey offered by the Department of Education and Training that is conducted amongst a sample of randomly selected parents. It is designed to assist schools in gaining an understanding of parents perceptions of school climate, student behaviour and student engagement. Our school will use the survey results to help inform and direct future school planning and improvement strategies. Approximately 30 per cent of parents will be invited to participate in this year s survey. All responses to the survey are anonymous. This year the Parent Opinion Survey will be conducted from Monday 23 rd July to Sunday 26 th August. The survey will be conducted online, only takes 10-15 minutes to complete, and can be accessed at any convenient time within the fieldwork period on desktop computers, laptops, tablets or smartphones. The online survey will be available in a range of languages other than English. These include: Arabic, Vietnamese, Mandarin, Chin (hakha), Hindi, Japanese, Somali, Turkish, Punjabi and Greek.
