BEGIN WITH THE END IN MIND GOALS AFTER HIGH SCHOOL
TIME MANAGEMENT Maximize your time both at school and at home Save time for yourself and your family
THINKING ABOUT COLLEGE? Grade Point Average (GPA) SAT and ACT Scores Writing skills on application School involvement Community involvement Being well-rounded is better than being overly involved Plan for YOUR college Multiple pathways for entering college
ACADEMIC OR PRE-AP? Qualities of a successful PreAP student: Maintained an 80-85+ in junior high PreAP classes Good organizational skills Intrinsically motivated Positive attitude about school Cooperative and mature behavior Exit guidelines and criteria
PRE-AP VS. ACADEMIC DON T PANIC AND DON T COMPARE
BALANCE YOUR COURSE AND EXTRACURRICULAR LOAD LEARN TO MANAGE STRESS APPROPRIATELY
COLLEGE CREDIT OPPORTUNITIES AP Courses allow you to take AP exams for college credit (most courses taken during your junior and senior years) Dual Credit courses allow you to earn college credit through Houston Community College while still enrolled in high school
Most importantly **Enjoy high school**
Research shows that students who are involved in school activities perform better in school, perform better on the SAT and ACT, and learn valuable skills that can be used later in life.
