Training and consultancy for development 2016 Why do you learn? imainternational.com

Meet the UK Team ACCREDITED SHORT COURSE PROVIDER Welcome to IMA International In 1999 I worked with a group of Afghan development practitioners based in Peshawar. There were major challenges at the time and I was inspired to see what happens when people with enthusiasm and experience have space to weigh their practice in the field against international development theories. The value of connecting people and knowledge at all levels, across boundaries, is our commitment to this day. We have a new course, finance for non-financial managers, and have updated further our leadership and management for development, theory of change, and partnership s services. We are now training in Belgium and Spain too. Keep in touch with us on social media and watch our refreshingly raw training videos and #adviceforlife series. You can also share your ideas and receive content on our Facebook group. If you want to make a difference to yourself, your team, your organisation, your community, your world - we invite you to join our participatory learning in 2016. How ima your can support organisation Over the last 33 years IMA has built a reputation as a leading provider of participatory and innovative training and consultancy for the international development sector. Capacity strengthening is at the core of our mission. People choose us because we offer a chance for them to reflect on individual practice and learn about new approaches in development to promote sustainable change, on both a personal and professional level. We have trained over 15,000 development practitioners from NGOs, UN agencies, governments and the private sector across the world. Promoting learning and social change Working in the international development sector we believe gives us the responsibility to promote social transformation and social change. To this end, we work with different partners to develop innovative approaches to development. Specifically, we innovate in the way we conceive monitoring and evaluation by focusing on qualitative data and information. Our Theory of Change approach has a strong self-reflective component which underlines the need to work on an individual level before building up strategies to engage with multi-stakeholder processes. Intangible capabilities In our leadership and management development approach we look at leadership presence, emotional intelligence, resilience, navigating networks and influencing skills. We focus on how leaders can flourish and have impact in complex organisations and settings. Sharing knowledge One of our strengths as an organisation is our ability to merge our experience from the field with academic theory. We promote knowledge sharing among clients and training participants in a way that values everyone s experience so as to foster and embed learning. We believe everybody s knowledge counts and are keen to give voice to the tacit knowledge development practitioners often have, but are not aware of. Consultancy Our consulting is a key part of the work we do, to foster sustainability and ownership of change processes with our clients. With our team of experts who have years of academic and practical experience behind them, we use the best practices from different sectors to help clients implement long lasting change. Our participatory approach employs Theory of Change at the core of its activities, always trying to explore individual and organisational assumptions to bring about change and to create solutions that are flexible and dynamic. Our multi stakeholder approach focuses on the integration and understanding of complexity among social processes. We employ different power analysis tools to support individuals and organisations towards sustainable and inclusive social change. Organisational assessments l design of M&E and organisational learning systems l evaluation of development programmes l participatory facilitation of multi-stakeholder processes l managers forums l organisational action learning l design and review of clients educational programmes 5

6 The facilitators are fantastic, and cultivated a culture of learning, deep thoughtfulness and reflection. Stephanie Bishop Certificate in Management Leadership Caribbean Development Export Agency I appreciate the Value for Money training delivered in partnership with NEF because the trainer had hands-on experience with the tools and models presented. This IMA organised and delivered experience from the field is a very instrumental course great added-value. on public private partnerships. Blaise Bernier, PWC Switzerland I will revisit our partnership engagement in the light of the tools, insights and experiences I now have. IMA facilitators are excellent and rich in their experiences, this is such valuable training. Leanard Kiza, FAO Mozambique Assafa Hailu, Care Ethiopia I highly recommend the Theory of Change training to colleagues. The training style is creative, interactive, non discriminatory and fun. Samira Shakya, WaterAid Nepal 7 Our course locations: book online at imainternational.com The training materials, experience and practical application, reputation, customer service and quality of our training delivery, is better than other training providers. Organisational Enabling survey and Organisational Effectiveness survey) the process also involved developing a 5-10 year strategic plan using a theory of change, and capacity building participatory workshops with 65 WRAPA staff, volunteers, coordinators and partners. WRAPA is one of the seven not for profits that received the MacArthur Award for Creative and Effective Institutions. 8 Examples of our work include... Theory of Change Developed the Theory of Change Innovation lab for PATHS 2 to introduce the concept of Theory of Change among primary stakeholders involved in the public private partnership (PPP) framework for Health Systems Strengthening in Nigeria. Lagos and Enugu, were the two states chosen to run the pilot programme on PPP with the aim of improving the effectiveness of the way their health systems are managed. IMA facilitated a five day workshop on Theory of Change and multi-stakeholder processes in Enugu with 65 public and private sector participants who are involved in Health Systems Strengthening under the PPP framework. Strategic Review Completed the strategic Review and Evaluation of Reach Out to Asia s (ROTA) ten country international program portfolio. The fieldwork included a range of participatory techniques; mapping and scoring exercise, concept and topic mapping, focus group discussions, formal and informal interviews as well as key informant interviews. Action Learning Sets Support organisational learning and change for a major UK INGO, through running Action Learning Sets. Four groups of UK office and country office staff members met face-toface and virtually six times during 2015. Creating this safe space and regular chance to talk through issues with trusted peers is bringing about new, positive ways to work and having an impact in their complex work challenges. 9 Training of Trainers Co-developed fisheries management training packages (ecosystems approach) with a consortium of partners, and rolled these out to eight countries in Asia over the last two years. Our dedicated team of training of trainers now has national trainers championing this new fisheries management approach. We continue to coach national trainers and have been asked to have a coordination and repository role. Jointly with the National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration (US government) and partners, we are developing training materials for senior leaders which includes advocacy, public relations and workshops, to influence policy at local, national and regional level. Organisational Assessment Faciliated the organisational assessment for the Nigerian NGO, Women s Rights Advancement and Protection Alternative (WRAPA), who have 15,000 members. After assessing their organisational structure, culture and functions, using three surveys (Organisational Commitment Diagnostic survey,
