Engagement State Priority: Parental Involvement The SARC provides the following information relevant to the Parental Involvement State Priority (Priority 3): Efforts the school district makes to seek parent input in making decisions for the school district and each schoolsite. Opportunities for Parental Involvement Fremont Middle School strives to encourage meaningful, two-way communication with parents regarding student learning, school activities and opportunities for involvement. Parents are invited to attend Back to School Night, join Parent-Teacher conferences, and participate in other parent meetings. Parents are also invited to participate in decision-making and advisory committees, such as School Site Council and English Learner Advisory Council (ELAC). Fremont Middle School benefits from an extremely active and involved Parent Teacher Association (PTA). The Fremont PTA supports many school programs including PTA Reflections, conducts fundraisers and supports parent education events. Parents are encouraged to volunteer at school, in classrooms and as field trip chaperones. The Fremont counseling center offers workshops to parents including Parent Project. Information regarding parent involvement is provided in the annual School Parental Involvement Policy. Information about upcoming events and meetings is regularly communicated through the school website and weekly phone calls. State Priority: School Climate The SARC provides the following information relevant to the School Climate State Priority (Priority 6): Pupil suspension rates, pupil expulsion rates; and other local measures on the sense of safety. School Safety Plan The safety of students and staff is a primary concern of Fremont Middle School. Supervision is provided to ensure the safety of each student before school, during breaks, at lunch and after school and is a responsibility shared among campus supervisors, teachers, school staff and administration. All visitors to the campus must sign in at the office and wear a visitor s pass at all times. To safeguard the well-being of students and staff, a comprehensive School Safety Plan has been developed by the School Safety Committee. The School Safety Plan is updated annually, reviewed with staff, and approved by the School Site Council. Key elements of the Safety Plan focus on the following: Supervision Disaster Kits Emergency Procedures Positive Behavior Support The school is in compliance with the laws, rules, and regulations pertaining to hazardous materials and state earthquake standards. Professional Development provided for Teachers The Oxnard School District is committed to providing professional development for all teachers to support the successful progress for our students academic and social development. The professional development offered is grade level or content specific, and addresses the current State standards. Professional development can include training in specific subject areas, general academics, social behavior, technology, as well as job-embedded activities related to the California s for the Teaching Profession. The district also provides a support program (Beginning Teacher Support and Assessment - BTSA) for new teachers. The district and site administrators also attend workshops in curriculum, performance assessment, interventions, technology, supervision, evaluation, and leadership. In addition to professional development activities offered to the district's teachers and administrators, classified employees also receive training based on the specific needs of their assignment. The Oxnard School District is committed to providing professional development activities to every educator to improve instruction and enhance student achievement. In addition to the calendared staff development days, the district also provides numerous professional development opportunities throughout the year, after school, and on weekends.
