MDP - Essentials of Lean Principles in Construction 19 and 20 August Delhi NCR
Background Lean, a word that emerged from Toyota Production System, is a way of designing production systems to minimize waste of materials, time, and effort in order to generate the maximum possible value for all the stakeholders. This workshop is designed to help the Indian construction industry understand the principles of lean, different lean tools and techniques, and application of these in the construction industry. The workshop provides a platform for the participants and their organizations to overcome the challenges of time and cost overrun through efficient team collaboration and coordination. The learnings gained with this workshop will assist the participants in reducing costs, eliminating waste and delivering project on time which will further aid an organization to optimize their cost and increase productivity. The workshop will enable the participants to impart improved value delivery with continuous improvement; to understand the structured way to improve the project performance through lean implementation. The workshop consists of lean implementation case studies; teaching through practical examples from Indian construction sector, educational games and activities. Ultimately this workshop aims to help the participants and the organizations to improve their competitiveness in the local and international market. Learning outcomes 1. Faculty Prof. Anil Sawhney PhD FRICS Associate Dean and Director Anil Sawhney is Associate Dean & Director, at the RICS School of Built Environment. Most recently, he was a Professor of Civil Engineering at Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi. He was also an Adjunct Professor in the School of Built Environment, University of Technology Sydney. Anil Sawhney is a Fellow of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors and a member of the Project Management Institute. From June 2010 to June 2011, he held the position of Chair in Construction Project Management at University of Technology Sydney. With a Bachelor s degree in Civil Engineering (1988) and a Master s degree in Building Engineering Management (1990) from India, he completed his doctoral studies in construction engineering and management from the University of Alberta, Canada in 1994. He started his academic and consulting career in the US in 1994. Anil Sawhney has a rich mix of academic, research, industry and consulting experience gathered working in India, Canada, USA, and Australia. Over the last 20 years, he has built a substantial record of academic leadership and created a strong education, research, consulting, and service program in the area of construction project management and construction management education. Anil Sawhney performed consulting assignments for a large number of organizations including the World Bank under the International Comparison Program from 2002 to 2006. As part of this work, he codeveloped a spatial and temporal comparison methodology for the comparison-resistant construction sector. In 2009, he was appointed to the Bureau of Indian Standards panel on construction project management (BIS/CED29/P1). Prof. Sawhney also serves on the executive committee of the India Design Innovation Education Forum. Anil Sawhney is well published with over 70 publications in refereed technical journals and conferences. He serves on the International Editorial Board of the Journal of Civil Engineering and Environmental Systems published by Taylor and Francis and the Journal of Information Technology in Construction Prabhat Kumar Rakheja Adjunct Professor Prabhat Kumar Rakheja has a total of 37 years of experience of working in India, Iraq, Thailand, Singapore and Afghanistan. He has worked as Director - Constructions at Shapoorji Pallonji Co. Ltd and also as Senior Vice President - Projects at Experion Developers Pvt Ltd 4
Rajiv Nehru Head - Training & Product Development RICS South Asia Rajiv Nehru heads the Training and Product Development division at RICS South Asia. He is a civil engineer with a Master s in Construction Management from the University of Pune. He also holds a Diploma in Materials Management. Rajiv has more than 20 year's experience as a construction management professional and has honed his skills in construction, contract management, business strategy, strategic planning, cost management and program management. In his career, he has worked with reputed companies like Hindustan Construction Co (HCC) Ltd as Assistant Vice President Project Management and was the Founder and Principal Consultant at Nehru Institute of Construction & Enterprise (NICE). As the Director General of the Real Estate Academy for Developers (READ), he single handedly developed the institute for training real estate professionals. He has also worked as Director of National Institute of Construction Management and Research (NICMAR), Pune, and was responsible for setting up their Bangalore, Bahrain and Hyderabad campuses. He has worked as a project management trainer and consultant in India, the Middle East and Africa and has trained more than 15,000 people in construction project management. He shares his vast experience with upcoming professionals as Guest Faculty in Construction Project Management in prestigious institutes like IIT Kharagpur, IIM Lucknow, Power Management Institute NOIDA and more. Prior to joining RICS India, Rajiv was General Manager at Rohan Builders India Pvt Ltd, leading their real estate team of more than 250 engineers and technical staff with over 10 sites in Pune and Bangalore. He has been awarded the prestigious British Chevening Scholarship in 2006-07 for Environment Management and Sustainable Development. He has professional memberships of the International Development Network of RTPI UK, Member of Cynall Cyumri Wales UK, Associate Member of Institution of Engineers India, Indian Plumbing Association and more. With his many years of experience, Rajiv is enriching training and development in the realm of project management and controls, business process reengineering, safety management, quality management, strategy and urbanism Riddha Basu Assistant Professor Riddha Basu was previously at L&T Construction as a Planning Engineer. She has done her Bachelors in Civil Engineering from West Bengal University of Technology and received a Gold Medal for the same. She had also done masters in Construction Technology & Management from Indian Institute of Technology in Delhi. 5
