'Reading Symphonic Wind Orchestra are in the National Concert Band Festival and will be travelling to the South regional event at The Cardinal Vaughan Memorial School, London on Sunday 3rd December. ' They have also been asked to play at the Reading Half Marathon in March next year - presumably not all the way round! Ski Trip 2018: If your child is going on the February Ski Trip there is an information evening on Thursday 30th November at 6.30pm. Year 10 Creativity Day: As part of the Year 10 activities on Creativity Day (16th November 2017) there is an opportunity for students to have a day in London, visiting the Dickens Museum and touring the sites associated with Charles Dickens in the city. At the museum, students w ill take part in a writing workshop using artefacts from the museum and trying out ink and quills! The tour in the afternoon is a guided tour which will help students learn more about the context for Dickens work. As well as supporting students study of A Christmas Carol, this trip will be of interest to students who enjoy creative writing or who are considering English A Level. Places are limited on a first come, first served basis; please see the letter attached. We hope students will take advantage of this very special trip which we have been able to arrange; I appreciate it is a tight time scale, but the opportunity has only just arisen! For students who do not select the trip option, there are a number of workshops all based around A Christmas Carol. Students should have made their options for these. The school day will run as normal for year 10 students in school, including morning registration, breaks, lunchtimes and the requirement to wear school uniform. Year 11 GCSE MOCKS English Literature Revision To support students in the lead up to the mocks, the English Department will be running a series of poetry revision sessions on the following dates. Wed 15 th Nov Love and Relationship Poems 3.40-4.40 Wed 22nd Nov Comparing Poems 3.40 4.40 Students have also been emailed some guidance on how and what to revise for their English Literature Paper 2 exam. Revision for Curious Incident will take place during lessons in the week before the mocks. All students have been told to revise the following areas for the literature mock. We have narrowed the focus of their revision to ensure they revise in more depth. PE Department Not to be outdone by the success of the year 8 rugby team, the year 10/11 team followed suit by winning their league at a VERY wet Reading RFC tonight. Having won all 8 league games they then beat Maiden Erlegh 28-0 in the play off semi final before beating Oakbank by the same score in the final. AND. U14 girls won the team event at the area triathlon competition. Caitlin Edgar Gemma Botham and Mia Stovell. Caitlin was the individual winner with Gemma coming 3rd. Juno Norman was second in the u 17 girls as was Ben Morgan in the u14 boys. Each athlete does 1500m on the ergo Rowing machine, a 2.5km cycle followed by a 1600m run. Examinations Update Friday 10th November 2017 Year 11 Mock Exams 27th November 5th December 2017 An assembly will be held on Wednesday 22nd November during which students will receive a package with all relevant documents and final details will be covered. There have been some changes since I gave students timetables at the end of last term. MFL subjects (French, German and Spanish) only a Reading exam will be taken in the exam hall during the mock week. Writing and Listening exams will be taken during normal lessons tbc with relevant teachers. Food Technology exam is 1 hour 45 mins not 2 hours.
