AFTER THIS PRESENTATION YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO USE THE KNOWLEDGE BELOW TO SUCCESSFULLY REGISTER FOR HIGH SCHOOL What steps are involved in successful registration What paperwork is required and when it is due What courses you should be choosing based on your goals for the future Start your high school career successfully with a complete, accurate, and on-time registration packet!

Registration Process 1. Orientation 2. Attend Open House Monday, February 1, 2016, with your parents. 3. Turn in completed packet to a DV counselor at your middle school. Only COMPLETE packets will be accepted. Having completed, on-time packets is the first step to a successful high school experience!

Attach FOUR Documents Birth Certificate Immunization Records Copy of Parent Driver s License Proof of Residence (See TUHSD checklist for acceptable items)

Valid Arizona driver s license can be used for proof of residency if the address matches the address listed on the attached yellow data sheet. Attach a copy of Gifted scores, if applicable. Top 3% on the TUHSD placement test or previous placement in Gifted Program. Students in special programs need to note on Record of Prior Special Programs page (504, ESL, Title I, IEP, Gifted). Students taking honors, but not identified as gifted do not need to mark gifted.

Desert Vista Open Enrollment? Registration packets for open-enrollment students must be turned in: * During registration at the middle school OR * Desert Vista before the end of the school day on March 4, 2016. Open Enrollment Forms must be completed online at the TUHSD website prior to turning in a registration packet. Check the TUHSD website for updates at http://tempeunion.schoolwires.net/page/2166

DV Freshmen Honors Classes Multiple Methods Used for Honors Placement: * 8th grade teacher signature on registration form * Prior honors placement OR * Grades (generally A s)

Gifted Services 1. Scoring in the top 3% in any one of the three areas on the TUHSD honors placement test. Last day to test: Saturday, Jan. 23, 2016 Register at: http://tempeunion.schoolwires.net/domain/62 2. Qualification in a gifted program prior to high school (Documentation must be included with registration paperwork unless identification was through Akimel or Altadena and student currently attends one of those schools). 3. PSAT scores will be reviewed in the freshman and sophomore years, if the student has not qualified in one of the ways listed above.

Credits from Middle School Math and Spanish classes taken in middle school receive credit, but are posted as P/F, so do NOT earn rank points or impact GPA. Out-of-District students can take a Spanish placement test to determine placement. When: 3:15 on Thursday May 12th, 2016 Where: Students can meet at the Front Office at Desert Vista. To Register for a Zero or Eighth Hour 1. To have the extra course placed in your course selections at time of registration at the middle school: a) Pay at the DV Bookstore b) Attach receipt to and write in the extra course on the scheduling worksheet c) Turn in to DV counselor at your middle school on your registration day. 2. To add extra course after registration materials have been turned in: a) Pay at the DV Bookstore b) Turn receipt in to the DV Counseling Office by Friday, March 4, 2016, at 3:30 PM. If the extra class is the 7th class on the student s schedule, a fee of $175 per semester is required.

Earning College Credit in High School Dual Enrollment Acquire college credits while concurrently enrolled in a DV class. Courses taught on DV campus by DV teachers. Student registers and pays through the community college. The registration process takes place at DV. Dual enrollment classes are at the link below: Rio Salado courses offered at DV. Questions should be directed to the teacher in the subject area of question. Class counselors can answer questions regarding combination of classes to take. Advanced Placement (AP) Advanced Placement curriculum is standard nation-wide and prepares students for the AP test in May. Universities award credit and/or proficiency recognition based on test scores. Your alternates will only be used if one of your first choices cannot fit in your schedule with the other course selections.
