Traditional Teacher Preparation Program Bachelor s degree or master s degree in education (32 programs in Iowa) Complete college coursework in pedagogy and content area(s) Complete a student teaching placement (14 or more weeks) Complete required assessments for program completion
Teacher Intern Program Applicants already hold at least a bachelor s degree and the content for at least one secondary endorsement Complete pedagogy coursework (in a format for working adults) Complete an internship (in lieu of student teaching) fully paid Complete required assessments for program completion
Career and Technical Authorization Based on hours of experience in career and technical fields 6000 hours (three years) required, or 4000 with a bachelor s degree Start on an Initial Career and Technical Authorization, take pedagogy coursework during the three-year term, then full authorization is issued This pathway works well for career and technical areas such as construction, mechanics, welding, culinary arts, military science, agriculture, and many other areas

Conditional Licensure The Class B License is valid for two school years and may be issued under the following conditions: The person is the holder of a valid Iowa license with one or more endorsements Is seeking to obtain some other endorsement The individual seeking this endorsement has completed at least two-thirds of the requirements or one-half in a shortage area The Executive Director Decision License is valid for one school year and may be issued under the following conditions: The employer verifies the diligent search to find a fully licensed teacher for the position The individual seeking this endorsement is not eligible for the Class B license
