THE OPEN UNIVERSITY OF HONG KONG BSc (Hons) in Applied Science (Beauty and Health) BSc in Applied Science (Beauty and Health) THE OPEN UNIVERSITY OF HONG KONG The Open University of Hong Kong (OUHK) is established and recognised by the Government. It has four Schools School of Arts and Social Sciences, Lee Shau Kee School of Business and Administration, School of Education and Languages, and School of Science and Technology offering degree programmes in a number of areas, including arts and social sciences, business administration, education and languages, science and technology. Currently, there are over 9,500 students taking programmes on a full-time basis in the University s campus. In addition, undergraduate degree programmes in a range of disciplines are offered jointly with partnership institutions. PROGRAMME OVERVIEW This programme aims to develop students with knowledge, skills, professional ethics and academic challenges on top of what they attained in the general-level degree. Students will be trained with capabilities to take up independent academic surveys, research and report writing skills and potential to progress into postgraduate level studies. Upon successful completion of the programme, students should be able to: explain the fundamental concepts and principles underpinning current practices in Beauty and Health application; apply core analytical skills and techniques in the professional practice of Beauty and Health application; comprehend current research methods in science with particular reference to Beauty and Health and apply these methods in career; grasp the fundamental theories with regard to quality management in applied science with particular reference to Beauty and Health and apply these theories in career; and deliver and present sound academic and professional inputs on issues of relevance to Beauty and Health in career. Applied Science ENTRY REQUIREMENTS A recognised Higher Diploma in Applied Nutritional Science, Beauty Science, Health and Beauty Care Management, Health and Beauty Therapy, Health Food Business, Food Management and Health Studies Management, Rehabilitation Services, Community Health Care for Senior Citizens, Medical Centre Operations, Beauty and Personal Care Products, or equivalent, awarded by VTC or a recognised local or overseas institution; or A recognised tertiary or professional qualification at higher diploma or associate degree level, or above, with relevance to the named programme. ASSESSMENT There will be both continuous assessment components and a final examination for all the courses. Continuous assessment will include assignment, quizzes and project report that should be orally presented in tutorials.
