The organization meets during Advisement. Members are placed in a multi-grade level leadership Advisement. Members are also asked to participate in activities, depending on their availability, which often takes place outside of school. CLASS OFFICERS The Class Officers organize and plan all extracurricular class functions including: class meetings, student council participation (if needed), fundraising, junior prom, senior ball, class trips, and banquets. ACADEMIC CHALLENGE / CAREER INTEREST MASTER MINDS Advisors: Jean-Paul Scott & Pam Vail Masterminds is a team trivia competition. The teams are made up of two (2) four person teams competing against one another in a match. Each match is made up of two (2) seven minute halves. The team with the highest score at the end of the match wins. It is very competitive and requires a great deal of knowledge about a variety of subjects. The subjects include; history, geography, literature, mathematics, science, pop culture, sports, music, and just about anything else that can be turned into a trivia question. We have one match a month beginning in October and ending in March. FUTURE EDUCATORS Advisor: Pam Vail This club is for students who are interested in being in the Teaching profession. This is a new club to Athena and anyone interested should see Ms. Vail in room 139. NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY Advisor: Rachel Furuta The Athena chapter of the National Honor Society Greece is an organization of students who have earned membership as being academically excellent, dedicated to service, leaders and young men and women who demonstrate exceptional character. In February of their junior year, students who are eligible candidates for NHS will be invited to attend a meeting where they will receive a Candidacy Packet to complete. Eligible candidates are invited based on a minimum cumulative GPA of 88%. In addition, the packet will require students to submit evidence of their leadership, service, and character. If students wish to be considered eligible, they will have already had to show proof of community service that is to be completed during the first half of their junior year. Students can begin acquiring these hours as early as July 1 following their sophomore year. Inducted members must complete additional community service and tutoring activities during their senior year. NHS members are also active in filling a need within the community by organizing school-wide Red Cross blood drives in the Fall and Spring, holding food and toy drives and raising money for not-for-profits. For more information, please see Mrs. Furuta. ROBOTICS CLUB Advisor: Maressa Ranalletti Students from the District work together with ITT Space Systems Division Engineers to create a robot for the annual first robotics competition at RIT. Focus areas are communications, mechanical, electrical and software engineering. If you are interested, please e-mail Maressa.Ranalletti@greececsd.org. 4
