It s once again the season to reflect upon all the things in our lives for which we have gratitude. Items will be collected in various classrooms that will be announced later. SAVE THE DATE! Parent/Teacher Conferences- Jan. 21-4-7 p.m. BLOOD DRIVE WEDS. DECEMBER 12 2-6:45 PM HHS CAFETERIA Hosted by Hopkins NHS Give the Gift of Life this Holiday Season! Viking Pride = Community Spirit! The Student Council/FFA Holiday Canned Food Drive was a great success! Students collected 3002 food and personal care items. FFA created baskets and delivered them locally, and the remaining items were donated to local food pantries.

P a g e 2 Scholarship Information The counselors will be sending you scholarship information via email so please check your emails frequently! You may also check the bulletin board in the counseling office for upcoming scholarship opportunities. College Application Reminder Students who are planning on going to college and have not yet applied need to A.S.A.P.!! The scholarship deadline for most colleges was December 1st. However, those who have not applied yet still can. The sooner the better! Unsure about post-secondary options? Counseling News Upcoming College Visits Kendall College of Art and Design Dec. 6 12:10 p.m. Please sign up in the office if you would like to speak with a representative while they are in our building. Financial Aid If you're planning to attend college next fall, January is the time to begin filling out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid, or FAFSA. Information from the FAFSA is used to determine your eligibility for federal student aid programs grants, loans and work-study. Parents can submit the FAFSA as early as January 1 st however the deadline for filing the FAFSA is March 1st. You can access the FAFSA: online at www.fafsa.ed.gov or; for a paper copy call 1-800-4-FED-AID (1-800-433-3243) Make sure you check financial aid deadlines! The FAFSA will list deadlines for federal and state aid. Also check the requirements at the colleges you're interested in applying to. Some require additional financial aid forms. Please see your high school counselor for any questions you have regarding college applications or financial aid. NEED A RETAKE OR A PRACTICE RUN? The next national ACT test date is Feb. 9th, 2013. The regular registration deadline is Jan. 11 th and the late registration deadline is Jan. 18 th. Online registration and test date information are available at www.actstudent.org. Students can practice for the ACT test by visiting one of the many college test prep links found on the counseling website under academics. See your high school counselor! Counseling Website Check us out for up-to-date information such as, upcoming tests, college visits, and scholarship opportunities and much more! Visit: www.hpsvikings.org/counseling PLAN We will be administering the PLAN test to all tenth graders sometime on Tuesday, March 12. This is a pre-act test that helps prepare students for taking the ACT their Junior year. Students can practice for the PLAN test by visiting the counseling website and following the academic link or by visiting www.planstudent.org. Transcript Requests Seniors needing transcripts sent out to colleges must submit their requests through Docufide. Students can find the link by visiting the high school counseling website and clicking the transcript request link. Transcripts requested through this site are securely sent to the colleges, universities, or scholarship funds that you select. Students may also track their request online anytime and will receive an email confirmation when their transcript request is approved and sent.
